PROTECT THE PAINT
The Warriors have already experienced some ups and downs in the early going of this new season, and one area they’re continuing to look for improvement in is their interior defense. Golden State is allowing an average of 47.7 points in the paint per game (tied for 6th worst in the NBA), and ceded a season-worst 64 points in the paint in their loss to the Lakers on Friday. Now, that number was a bit inflated by committing a season-worst 20 turnovers to Los Angeles, which often lead directly to fast break opportunities and easy conversions at the rim, but nonetheless, this has been an ongoing theme of the Warriors’ season thus far, and something they’ll need to address moving forward. Monday’s opponent, the New Orleans Pelicans, managed 62 points in the paint against the Warriors in their previous meeting, meaning Golden State should have their hands full once again as they attempt to address what has been a debilitating defensive deficiency.

NEW ORLEANS SCOUTING REPORT
The beginning of the season has not been kind to New Orleans. The Pelicans have opened the year on a six-game losing streak, including tough overtime defeats in each of their last two games. One of those losses came at the hands of the Warriors back in the first week of the season, so the two sides won’t need any introductions when they meet again at Oracle Arena on Monday. The lone bright spot for New Orleans has been the dominant play of Anthony Davis, who is the only player in the NBA to rank in the top-seven in both scoring and rebounding. Davis totaled 45 points and 17 boards against Golden State in their previous encounter, wreaking havoc on both ends of the floor. If the Pelicans are going to get their first victory of the season on Monday, chances are it will take another phenomenal individual effort on his part.
