Warriors - Pacers Preview

The Warriors began February with a road heavy stretch and they’ll end the month with another. Sunday’s game tips off a six-game road trip for the Dubs, and the date with the Pacers will close out the two-game season series. The Warriors won the first matchup 117-102 back in January, and the chance to complete the season sweep will begin at 3 p.m. on CSN Bay Area and KNBR 680.

LAST TIME OUT
The Warriors let the 3-ball fly in their first game back from the All-Star Break, and they found SPLASHing success in Friday’s 110-99 win over the visiting Spurs. Sporting a new uniform in honor of Chinese New Year, the Dubs had six different players connect on 3-pointers, including three-plus each from 3-Point Champ Stephen Curry, contest finalist Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala and Draymond Green. The Warriors shot 17-for-33 (51.5 percent) overall from 3-point range, hitting 11 more treys than San Antonio. Full Game Recap

ROAD WARRIORS
The Warriors enter their longest road trip of the season with the best road record in the NBA (19-7). Currently in the midst of a 13-game stretch that includes 11 games away from home, the Dubs will certainly be challenged in the next nine days. The Dubs have gone 16-2 against the Eastern Conference this season and will look to improve upon that mark. Three of the team’s opponents on this trip are currently in position to make the playoffs, and the other three, including Indiana, are fighting to get into the postseason picture. If the Dubs can post another winning road trip, they will set themselves up nicely for a home heavy stretch (15 of 24 games being played at Oracle Arena) to close out the season.

KLAY HAVING HIS DAY
Warriors guard Klay Thompson has become a household name among NBA fans this season, and he received another step toward validation by being featured on the cover of regional issues of Sports Illustrated this week. He has also recently become a first-time All-Star and a finalist in this year’s Three-Point Contest, not to mention being lauded as the best two-way two guard in the NBA by Hall of Famer and current TNT analyst Charles Barkley. And if any opponent is familiar with just how good a player Thompson has become, it’d be the Pacers. The other Splash Brother capped a 16-point fourth quarter by knocking down a game-winning shot in the closing seconds of a game in Indiana last year, and he torched the Pacers once again this past January with his second 40-point game of his career. Thompson’s consistent play is one of the reasons why the Dubs own a winning percentage north of .800, and Sunday he’ll warrant even closer monitoring.

INDIANA SCOUTING REPORT

Entering Saturday’s slate of NBA games, six teams vying for the final two playoff spots in the Eastern Conference are separated by 2.5 games in the standings. Thanks to winning five of their last six games, the Pacers are right in the thick of that race. Indiana has dealt with injuries all season, but the return of starting guard George Hill has coincided with the team’s hot play as of late. In addition, Paul George is hopeful to come back next month after suffering a devastating injury last summer with USA Basketball. Even without George, the Pacers are an elite rebounding team. They don’t yield many second chance points and their versatile offensive attack – six players averaging more than 10 points – make the Pacers much more dangerous than their 22-33 record would indicate.
