Buzzer-beating trey lifts D-League Select over Clippers

Posted Sunday July 18, 2010 10:58PM

The 2010 NBA Summer League's final game ended with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Mark Tyndale (Iowa Energy), helping the NBA D-League Select (1-4) squad rally for a come-from-behind 79-78 win over the Los Angeles Clippers (1-4) Sunday evening from UNLV's Thomas & Mack Center.

The NBA D-League Select trailed by as much as 20 with 18:26 remaining, but slowly erased that deficit until the end of the contest. Tyndale, who scored a team-high 19 coming off of the bench, recovered a loose ball in the backcourt, dribbled closer to the Clippers' basket and unleashed a 39-foot shot that hit nothing but net.

The Select erased the majority of the deficit with a 26-11 run in a stretch of 9:06 that pulled them within five at 61-56 with 9:07 remaining on the clock. They wound up falling behind by double figures once again, but an 18-7 run over the final 6:03 was enough to turn the game around.

The Select squad only held two leads in the game. The first occurred 1:40 into the contest with a layup by Cezary Trybanski (Reno Bighorns) and the final was on Tyndale's game-ending shot.

The Clippers rattled off rattled off a 6-0 run over 1:46 to push ahead for nearly the entire length of the game. After falling behind by as much as six with 3:36 off of the clock, the Select pulled within one on three different occasions before ending the quarter with a three-point deficit at 16-13.

The point differential moved to double figures with nine straight points by Los Angeles to open up the second quarter. The Clippers wound up outscoring the Select by a 28-15 margin and even owned an 18-point lead at 42-24 with 1:20 remaining in the half.

Los Angeles increased its lead to 20 (50-30) with 1:34 off of the clock in the third quarter outscoring the Select 8-2 to open the second half, but then had to weather the scoring outburst by the Select.

Besides Tyndale's output, the Clippers got double digits from Mike Gansey (Erie BayHawks, 15), Curtis Withers (Dakota Wizards, 14), Jonathan Wallace (Rio Grande Valley Vipers, 13) and Yaroslav Korolev (Reno Bighorns, 11).

Withers and Gansey amassed double-doubles in the contest, as they each recorded 10 rebounds.

Al-Farouq Aminu scored a game-high 21 points in a losing effort for the Clippers.

Rod Benson and Eric Bledsoe added 13 apiece for Los Angeles, while Trey Johnson had 12 to round out the double-digit scorers.
