Jeff Teague scored 19 and Jordan Crawford added 18 as the Atlanta Hawks defeated the NBA D-League Select Team 97-86 Saturday in the nightcap at the Thomas and Mack Center during the 2010 NBA Summer League on the campus of UNLV.
The NBA D-League Select team cut the deficit to 95-86 with less than a minute to play. But the nine-point hole, which stretched to as many as 24 at one point, was too much to overcome. Mike Gansey (Erie BayHawks) scored five quick points with the to spark the D-League's late run.
Teague and Crawford's offensive effort was complimented by Trey Gilder's 10 points. For the NBA D-League Select squad, Mark Tyndale (Iowa Energy) finished with 21 points, including nine in the fourth. Curtis Withers (Dakota Wizards) scored 19 and Gansey recorded 15 in the loss.
The Hawks scored 21 points off 18 NBA D-League Select turnovers, while the Hawks committed only 10 turnovers.
Atlanta dominated the first half, outshooting the NBA D-League Select 55 percent (22-for-40) to 30 percent (7-for-27) to soar to at 20-point halftime lead at 50-30. Teague led all first-half scorers with 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting. Tyndale provided a spark for the NBA D-League Select off the bench, scoring seven in just over nine minutes in the first half.
The NBA D-League Select outscored the Hawks 27-24 in the third, with Withers' 13 points leading the way.
Despite Withers' effort, the gap was too big, with the Select team trailing 74-57 heading into the fourth.
The NBA D-League Select returns to action Sunday to face the L.A. Clippers, while the Hawks finish out their 2010 NBA Summer League run against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday.
