Kings stay atop Summer League standings with win

Posted Friday July 16, 2010 10:40PM

LAS VEGAS -- In a battle of unbeaten teams in the 2010 NBA Summer League, the Toronto Raptors (4-0) knocked off the Sacramento Kings (3-1) by a score of 88-82 Friday afternoon from UNLV's Cox Pavilion. Toronto, who led a good majority of the contest, watched as Sacramento pulled within one point with 2:21 remaining in the game. The Raptors managed to score 10 of the game's final 15 points for the six-point win.

After trailing by a range of five-to-nine points in the third quarter, Sacramento turned things around in the fourth. The Kings pulled within one on four occasions, but could not get the much needed go-ahead bucket.

Eight of the Kings final 10 points came from the free throw line with Sonny Weems connecting for three. Solomon Alabi and DeMar DeRozan had two apiece, while Ed Davis had one. Davis did chip in a basket to tally three of those final 10 points.

DeRozan led all scorers with his game-high 22 points and tied for his team-lead in rebounds with seven.

Weems and Davis rounded out Toronto's double-digit scorers with 19 and 17 points of their own, respectively.

Toronto started the game off well building as much as an 11-point lead on two different occasions in the first quarter behind 47.1 percent shooting (8-for-17) compared to Sacramento's 21.1 percent (4-for-19) effort.

After the Raptors hit the last 11-point barrier, the Kings reeled off an 18-6 run in a 6:57 time span that was split between the first two quarters and gave them a short-lived 27-26 lead. The teams exchanged the lead five more times with Sacramento claiming the final one with 2:36 left before the break on a jumper by Weems. After tying the contest at 32-32, the Kings rattled off a 9-2 run, that included Weems' basket.

Sacramento got 20 points from Donte Greene in a losing effort. DeMarcus Cousins amassed a double-double with his combination of 16 points and 12 rebounds, while fouling out of the game with 10 fouls.

Omri Casspi and Hassan Whiteside rounded out the quarter of Kings in double-digits. Casspi had 12 to Whitesides' 10.

The Raptors shot 43.1 percent from the field (28-for-65), while the Kings hit 38.4 percent (28-for-73).
