8:30 PM ET - Thomas and Mack Arena, Las Vegas, NV
In a contest between winless teams, the Atlanta Hawks (1-2) defeated the Milwaukee Bucks (0-3) by a 83-60 margin Thursday night in 2010 NBA Summer League action held in UNLV's Thomas & Mack Center. The Hawks took control of the game just 25 seconds into the first quarter and never looked back, while building as much as a 23-point lead in the contest.
The main difference in the game came at the free-throw line. Atlanta had 20 more opportunities, as they went to the line 30 times compared to Milwaukee's 10. In all, the Hawks connected on 26 attempts, while the Bucks made seven.
Atlanta built as much as a 10-point lead on two different occasions in the first 10 minutes of the game, while owning a nine-point cushion, 22-13, at the end of the quarter.
Richard Hendrix was a main reason that the Hawks held such a commanding lead after the first quarter, as he scored 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field. Hendrix finished with a team-high 14 in less than 20 minutes of action.
Milwaukee began the second quarter scoring the first five points to cut its deficit to four only to see the Hawks rattle off a 14-4 run over a span of 4:08 to push out to a 14-point lead with 4:11 remaining before the break.
The Bucks managed to string together ten straight points to pull within four on a run of 5:06 that covered the end of the second quarter and 2:16 into the third. The run was aided by Atlanta's offense going cold without any points for 6:27. The scoring outburst wasn't enough though as the Hawks kept a safe distance between themselves and Milwaukee the rest of the way.
Atlanta went up by 10 with 2:26 left in the third and slowly built its lead to 23 on two different occasions, including the final of the game.
Jeff Teague followed closely behind Hendrix's output with 13 points of his own for the Hawks. Jordan Crawford pitched in 12, while Alade Aminu and Luke Jackson poured in 10 apiece.
Milwaukee got 15 from Deron Washington and 13 from Sean Williams. Larry Sanders, the 15th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds and added eight points in a losing effort.
The Bucks return to action on Friday night with a 7:30 contest against the Miami Heat in the Thomas & Mack Center, while the Hawks will face the NBA D-League Select at the same time on Saturday in the TMC.
