6:00 PM ET - Cox Pavilion, Las Vegas, NV
The Toronto Raptors (3-0) stayed unbeaten in the 2010 NBA Summer League with help from their 102-89 win over the New York Knicks (1-2) Wednesday afternoon from UNLV's Cox Pavilion. Toronto weathered a 17-5 run by New York midway through the first before turning the game around with a 24-11 run of its own immediately thereafter. The Raptors' key scoring stretch took place between the second and third frames and gave them an eight-point lead. Toronto managed to own as much as a 21-point lead early in the fourth.
Toronto trailed New York 30-25 with 1:44 remaining in the first quarter before slowly erasing the five-point deficit. The Raptors finally took the game's sixth and final lead change with 6:53 remaining before intermission. They built their lead to eight before heading into the break up six, 57-51.
The Raptors pulled away from the Knicks in the third, outscoring their opponent by 11, 28-17. Toronto shot an astonishing 87 percent (13-for-15) in the third period, while New York could only muster a 29 percent (6-for-21) effort.
Sonny Weems, Ed Davis and DeMar DeRozan were the main reasons behind Toronto putting some breathing room between itself and New York. Weems scored eight of his 19 points in the third, while Davis and DeRozan had six apiece.
DeRozan led all scorers with his game-high 23 points. Davis and Ronald Dupree added 13 and 12, respectively.
The Knicks were led offensively by Landry Fields' 19 points in a losing effort. Marcus Landry pitched in 14, while Toney Douglas had 13.
The game was a back and forth affair early on with the teams exchanging four lead changes and two ties. The teams combined for 65 points in the first quarter with New York claiming 34 of them. The majority of the Knicks' first-quarter scoring came from beyond the arc with their first four field goals coming from three-point range. They did not make a two-pointer until 5:57 into the contest.
The Raptors shot 62.1 percent (41-for-66) in the contest to the Knicks' 40.3 percent (29-for-72).
The Knicks return to the Cox Pavilion on Friday afternoon with a 1:00 pm tilt with the Detroit Pistons. The Raptors will follow that game with one of their own against the Sacramento Kings at 3:00 pm.
