LAS VEGAS -- The Denver Nuggets earned their second straight victory as they beat the Los Angeles Lakers 92-74 in the second game on Saturday at the 2010 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
Denver built their lead to as many as 21 in the fourth quarter behind Ty Lawson's team-high 18 points while Othello Hunter chipped in 14 points off the bench. The Lakers effort was led by Devin Ebanks 'game- high 24 points and Derrick Caracter's 17 points.
The Nuggets jumped out to an 11-4 first quarter lead in the first quarter and ended the quarter up six (25-19). Denver had a balanced attack with all five starters scoring, Shane Edwards and Ty Lawson led the way with six points apiece in the quarter while Coby Karl chipped in five. The Lakers were led by Derrick Caracter who also tallied six points.
Up 47-40 at the half, the Nuggets allowed the Lakers to cut the lead to just four on a 10-0 run late in the quarter. The Lakers second quarter attack was led by Devin Ebanks with nine points and assisted by Derrick Caracter with nine points. Othello Hunter led the Nuggets in the second quarter with five points.
The Nuggets built their lead to as many as 11 in the third quarter and took a 10-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Both teams lost players to injuries during the contest, Lakers forward Rob Kurz left the game in the second quarter and received stitches in his head, and did not return to the game. Nuggets Center Brian Butch left the arena on a stretcher during the third quarter with a knee injury and was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.
The Denver Nuggets will return to action on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at COX Pavilion as they host the New York Knicks. The Los Angeles Lakers will take Sunday off and will return to the hardwood on Monday, at 1:00 p.m. also hosting the New York Knicks.
