Daye helps Pistons cruise past Warriors

Posted Saturday July 10, 2010 11:12PM

The Detroit Pistons (2-0) cruised to a 89-69 victory over the Golden State Warriors (1-1) Saturday from UNLV's Cox Pavilion at the 2010 NBA Summer League. The game was a reversal of sorts for Detroit, which secured a come-from-behind victory Friday. The Pistons on Saturday used a 17-4 first-half run for the game's only lead change, while outscoring the Warriors 36-20 in the third quarter.

After losing its lead, Golden State stayed close, pulling within three at 40-37 early in the third. But Detroit would eventually pull away, reeling off a 25-8 run over a six-minute span to jump out to a 21-point lead.

Detroit's third-quarter surge was sparked by 24 points in the paint, finishing with 58. Golden State, on the other hand, managed just 28.

Golden State started the game hot, jumping out to a 9-2 lead just 3:07 into the contest. But Detroit quickly flipped the script. The Pistons managed to go ahead with a 17-4 run in the second quarter.

The Pistons were paced by Austin Daye's 20 points. DaJaun Summers followed added 18, while Jonas Jerebko and Greg Monroe had 11 apiece.

"I thought we played well and made adjustments defensively from yesterday's game, just out of rotations better and had better intensity," noted Summers. "I think we made the changes we had to make and got a great win out there."

The Warriors had three players in double-figures with Reggie Williams leading with 16. Brandan Wright (13) and Kim Tillie (11) rounded out the trio.

The Warriors stayed in the contest by hitting 30-for-39 from the free-throw line. Detroit went just 10-for-24.

Golden State will play its third game in as many days, returning on Sunday, July 11 at 5:00 p.m. PT with a tussle against the Washington Wizards in the Cox Pavilion. Detroit will take Sunday off before its Monday, July 12 game with the Sacramento Kings at 3:00 p.m. PT.
