NEW YORK, April 19, 2007 – The Atlanta Hawks’ Shelden Williams and the Memphis Grizzlies’ Tarence Kinsey today were named the Eastern and Western Conference T-Mobile Rookies of the Month, respectively, for April.

Williams, the fifth overall selection in the 2006 NBA Draft, averaged 11.6 points and 10.6 rebounds for the month. He started four of the last nine games and recorded double-doubles in five. Williams also significantly increased his field goal percentage -- .588 from .357 -- as well as rebounds per game -- 10.6 rpg from 3.5 rpg -- and points per game – 11.6 ppg from 8.0 ppg.

Kinsey scored at least 20 points in four of eight games in April, and averaged 18.8 points and 5.0 rebounds. He also recorded three or more steals on four occasions and tied a Grizzlies’ franchise rookie record with a career-high five steals on April 3 vs. Phoenix. In addition, Kinsey also posted a pair of career-high 28-point performances April 6. vs. Golden State and April 14 vs. Denver.

Shelden Williams, Atlanta Hawks

  • April 6 vs. Milwaukee: Scored 12 points and grabbed 16 rebounds along with three steals in the 115-102 win over the Bucks.
  • April 13 vs. Washington: Tallied 14 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks, and two steals in the 85-98 loss to the Wizards.
  • April 16 at Milwaukee: Registered 16 points, 17 rebounds and three assists in the 102-96 loss to the Bucks.
  • April 17 vs. Indiana: Recorded 21 points and 10 rebounds in the 118-102 win over the Pacers.

    Tarence Kinsey, Memphis Grizzlies

  • April 1 at Golden State: Scored 21 points and added eight rebounds and five assists in the 117-122 loss to the Warriors.
  • April 6 vs. Golden State: Recorded a career-high 28 points, five assists and four steals in the 104-116 loss to the Warriors.
  • April 14 vs. Denver: Registered 28 points to go with four rebounds, four steals and three assists in the 133-118 win over the Nuggets.
  • April 18 at Minnesota: Recorded 23 points, nine rebounds, five assists and 2 steals in the 100-102 win over the Hawks.
