NEW YORK, Dec. 29 – The New Jersey Nets Jason Kidd and Minnesota Timberwolves Sam Cassell were today named the Eastern Conference and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, December 22 through Sunday, December 28.

New Jersey’s Kidd led the Nets to a 3-0 record behind two triple-doubles and averages of 19.3 points, 12.0 assists, 8.0 rebounds and 2.33 steals per game.

Cassell helped lead the Timberwolves to a 2-1 record while on a coast-to-coast three game road trip with averages of 24.7 points, 7.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game.

Here is a closer look at the week for Kidd and Cassell:

Jason Kidd, New Jersey Nets
December 23 vs. Chicago – Had 18 points, 10 assists and three rebounds in a 95-78 win over the visiting Bulls.
December 26 at Detroit – Recorded 24 points, 11 rebounds, 12 assists and two steals as the Nets defeated the Pistons, 82-79.
December 17 at Indiana – Scored 16 points while adding 10 rebounds, 14 assists and four steals in a 82-75 win over the Pacers.

Sam Cassell, Minnesota Timberwolves
December 23 at New York – Had a season-high 31 points to go along with five assists, two rebounds and a steal in the Timberwolves 98-92 win over the Knicks.
December 26 at Portland – Tallied 23 points, nine assists and two rebounds as the Timberwolves lost to the Trail Blazers, 101-92.
December 27 at Seattle – Had 20 points, eight assists, six rebounds and three steals in a 104-86 win over the SuperSonics.

Other nominees for Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were Chicago’s Jamal Crawford, Denver’s Carmelo Anthony, Miami’s Dwyane Wade, Minnesota’s Kevin Garnett, New York’s Keith Van Horn, Portland’s Zach Randolph and San Antonio’s Tim Duncan.
