NEW YORK, Dec. 11, 2006 The Washington Wizards’ Gilbert Arenas and the Phoenix Suns’ Steve Nash today were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Dec. 4 through Sunday, Dec. 10.

Arenas led the league for the week averaging 37.3 points on .515 shooting in helping the Wizards to a 3-1 record. Arenas connected on 18-of-37 (.486) attempts from three-point range and added 5.5 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game. He scored 41 points in Washington’s Dec. 9 loss at Houston marking the fourth time this season he has reached the 40-point plateau.

Nash led the Suns to a 4-0 week which extended the team’s unbeaten streak to 10 in a row. For the week, he averaged 20.4 points on 31-of-54 (.574) shooting, including 10-of-17 three-point attempts, and added a league-best 11.6 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game. He scored a career-high 42 points and tallied 13 assists and six rebounds in Phoenix’s 161-157 double-overtime win at New Jersey on Dec. 7, which tied for the fourth-highest scoring game in NBA history (318 combined points).

Gilbert Arenas, Washington Wizards
Dec. 4 vs. Dallas: Scored 38 points and added eight assists in 106-97 win over the Mavericks.
Dec. 6 @ New York: Tallied 38 points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals in 113-102 win over the Knicks in Washington’s first road victory of the season.
Dec. 8 @ Philadelphia: Scored 32 points and added three rebounds and three assists in a 113-98 win at Philadelphia.
Dec. 9 vs. Houston: Reached the 40-point mark for the fourth time this season scoring 41 points and adding seven assists, three steals and one rebound in a 114-109 loss to the Rockets.

Steve Nash, Phoenix Suns
Dec. 5 vs. Sacramento: Set a season-high with 20 assists to accompany 11 points, four rebounds and two steals in the Suns’ 127-102 win over The Kings.
Dec. 7 @ New Jersey: Scored career-high 42 points and added 13 assists, six rebounds and one steal in the Suns 161-157 double-overtime win at New Jersey.
Dec. 8 @ Boston: Tallied 16 points, 14 assists, five rebounds and one steal in a 116-111 win over the Celtics.
Dec. 10 @ Charlotte: Scored 11 points and added 10 assists and two steals in 114-84 win.
