NEW YORK, April 17 --
Indiana's Jermaine O'Neal
and Minnesota's Kevin Garnett
today were named Eastern Conference and Western Conference Players of the Month, respectively, for games played for the month of April.
O'Neal averaged 25.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, 2.5 assists and 1.25 steals for the month in leading the Pacers to the third seed in the Eastern Conference.
Garnett averaged 21.0 points, 15.4 rebounds, 8.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.29 steals for the month in helping the Timberwolves earn the fourth seed in the Western Conference and home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.
Here is a look at highlights from the month for O'Neal and Garnett:
Jermaine O'Neal, Indiana PacersApril 4 at Detroit: Tallied 29 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks in 98-92 victory over the Pistons.
April 8 at Chicago: Recorded a career-high 38 points to go along with 13 rebounds, five blocks, two steals and two assists in defeat to the Bulls.
April 15 at New York: Had 23 points, nine rebounds, two blocks, two steals and two assists in victory over the Knicks.
April 16 vs. New Jersey: Tallied 26 points, 10 rebounds and three steals in 90-83 victory over the Nets.
Kevin Garnett, Minnesota TimberwolvesApril 6 at Portland: Recorded his NBA-leading sixth triple-double of the season with 16 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists in 97-78 victory over the Trail Blazers.
April 11 vs. L.A. Clippers: Had 24 points, 15 rebounds, eight assists, four blocks and three steals in 106-90 victory over the Clippers.
April 13 vs. Chicago: Recorded 14 points, 19 rebounds, seven assists and one block in 119-95 victory over the Bulls.
April 16 vs. Memphis: Tallied 19 points, 16 rebounds, eight assists, two blocks and one steal in 95-87 victory over the Grizzlies.
Other candidates for NBA Players of the Month included Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki, New Orleans' Jamal Mashburn and Sacramento's Chris Webber.
