NEW YORK, March 1 – Orlando Magic guard Tracy McGrady and Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett today were named Eastern Conference and Western Conference Players of the Month, respectively, for games played in February.

McGrady led the Magic to an Atlantic Division best 8-3 record by averaging 26.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 2.4 steals, while Garnett averaged 22.1 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 5.0 assists, in leading the Timberwolves to an 8-4 record.

McGrady and Garnett were in Philadelphia for the All-Star Game in the midst of turning in their Player of the Month performances.

Tracy McGrady, Orlando Magic

  • Feb. 3 vs. San Antonio: Recorded 26 points, a career-high 17 rebounds and six assists in seven-point overtime loss to the Spurs.
  • Feb. 9 vs. Cleveland: Had 29 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks in 106-98 victory over the Cavaliers.
  • Feb. 16 at Houston: Had 39 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists in a 109-100 victory over the Rockets.
  • Feb. 23 vs. Philadelphia: Recorded first career triple-double with 22 points, 11 rebounds, and a career high 11 assists in 105-87 victory over the Sixers.

    Kevin Garnett, Minnesota Timberwolves

  • Feb. 1 at Boston: Had 21 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and two blocks in a 98-95 victory over the Celtics.
  • Feb. 13 vs. Phoenix: Recorded 33 points, 13 rebounds and six assists in a 107-92 win over the Suns.
  • Feb. 23 at San Antonio: Had 30 points, 11 rebounds and five assists in a 112-88 road victory over the Spurs.
  • Feb. 27 vs. LA Lakers: Nearly missed a triple-double with 33 points, 15 rebounds and nine assists in 112-101 victory over the Lakers.

    Other Eastern Conference candidates for NBA Player of the Month included Charlotte’s Baron Davis, Cleveland’s Andre Miller and Lamond Murray, Miami’s Eddie Jones, New Jersey’s Jason Kidd and Philadelphia’s Allen Iverson.

    Western Conference candidates for NBA Player of the Month included Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki, Houston’s Cuttino Mobley, Seattle’s Brent Barry and Utah’s Karl Malone.
