2024 Trade Deadline

Timberwolves add Monte Morris in deal with Pistons

The veteran guard is headed to Minnesota in exchange for Shake Milton, Troy Brown Jr. and a 2nd-round pick.

Monte Morris is headed to Minnesota after playing six games with Detroit this season.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have agreed to acquire guard Monte Morris in a trade with the Detroit Pistons.

Timberwolves receive:

  • Monte Morris

Pistons receive:

  • Troy Brown Jr.
  • Shake Milton
  • 2030 second-round pick

What trade means: Morris gives the Timberwolves another scoring threat off the bench as they look to stay in the top 4 of the West standings.

The 28-year-old guard played the first five seasons of his career in Denver, where he logged 48 playoff games, before playing with Washington and Detroit. He has played in just six games for Detroit after dealing with a quadriceps injury to begin the 2023-24 season.

Morris has career averages of 10.4 points and 4.0 assists on 47.9% shooting from the field and 38.9% from 3.

The Timberwolves (35-16) have the No. 1 rated defense in the NBA, but rank 19th on offense. Morris should help make their offensive attack more dynamic going forward.

The Pistons (6-43) pick up another Draft pick and add two veteran guards in Milton and Brown Jr. who can help guide Cade Cunningham, Ausar Thompson and the young Pistons.
