LAS VEGAS — Amile Jefferson provided 12 rebounds and four blocks to help the Minnesota Timberwolves take down the Brooklyn Nets, 78-69, in the Las Vegas Summer League at Cox Pavilion on Monday.

The Timberwolves got off to a hot start, taking a double-digit lead within the first 12 minutes of action. While Minnesota seemed to be running away with the game, Brooklyn quickly answered with a 14-0 run to take the lead by halftime. It proved to be a game of runs, as Minnesota responded by starting the second half on a 12-0 tear, giving the Wolves a lead that the never relinquished.

While Jefferson’s dominance in the paint helped Minnesota earn the win, fellow rookies Josh Okogie and Keita Bates-Diop provided scoring for an otherwise relatively stagnant offense. The pair combined for 22 points. Okogie, a Georgia Tech product, added four assists and three steals to his scoring output.

Offense came almost exclusively off the bench for the Nets, as the team’s starters combined for just 21 points in the loss. Shawn Dawson and Yuta Watanabe each scored 14 points for the second unit, sharing the team lead in scoring.
