NEW YORK, April 21, 2006 – Seven ties among teams that finished the 2005-06 NBA regular season with identical records were broken today through random drawings to help determine the order of selection for NBA Draft 2006, which will be held on Wednesday, June 28 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The drawings were conducted live on NBA TV earlier today at the NBA League Office in New York City by Stu Jackson, NBA Senior Vice President, Basketball Operations.
The results of the random drawings:
Attached is the order of selection for the NBA Draft 2006, as well as the number of chances for teams in NBA Draft Lottery 2006, to be held May 23, at the NBA Entertainment studio in Secaucus, New Jersey.
2006 FIRST ROUND DRAFT CHOICE ORDER
The teams entered in the lottery, to be held on May 23, 2006, are as follows (note: the first three picks in the Draft will be determined by the lottery and the remainder of the “lottery teams” will select in positions 4 through 14 in inverse order of their consolidated standings at the end of the regular season):
TEAM RECORD LOTTERY CHANCES (out of 1,000) Portland 21-61 250 New York (To Chi.) 23-59 199 Charlotte 26-56 138 Atlanta 26-56 137 Toronto 27-55 88 Minnesota 33-49 53 Boston 33-49 53 Houston 34-48 23 Golden State 34-48 22 Seattle 35-47 11 Orlando 36-46 8 N.O./Ok. City 38-44 7 Philadelphia 38-44 6 Utah 41-41 5
* Please note that teams that finished the regular season with identical records will select in the second round in the reverse of the order in which they select in the first round, provided that if more than two teams are tied, then, as among the tied teams, each tied team will select one position earlier than it selected in the first round, except that the tied team that selected earliest in the first round shall, as among the tied teams, select latest in the second round. With respect to the ties between Atlanta and Charlotte (33 and 34); Boston and Minnesota (36 and 37); Golden State and Houston (38 and 39); and Philadelphia and New Orleans/Oklahoma City (42 and 43): since the order of selection in the first round for each pair of teams may change based on the results of the Draft Lottery, the order of selection in the second round cannot be determined until after the Draft Lottery is conducted (on May 23, 2006).
