Game Recap: Charlotte Hornets 94, Miami Heat 90

LAS VEGAS — The Charlotte Hornets defeated the Miami Heat, 94-90, in the Las Vegas Summer League at Cox Pavilion on Sunday.

In a tightly fought game that saw 15 ties and 12 lead changes, the Hornets went on a 20-11 run over the last 5:17 to erase a five-point deficit at 79-74. Rashad Vaughn’s 3-pointer with 40 seconds remaining brought the Heat to within one, 88-87, but the Hornets went 6-of-6 from the foul line down the stretch to ice it.

Charlotte shot 47.9 percent from the field and 79.2 percent from the free-throw line.

Willy Hernangomez, who was 10-of-18 from the field, totaled 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Hornets (2-0). Dwayne Bacon also scored 22 points, adding six rebounds and three steals. Devonte’ Graham finished with 12 points and seven assists, and Miles Bridges had 14 points and five boards.

The Heat (0-2) were led by Daryl Macon, who posted 17 points, six rebounds and five assists. Landry Nnoko totaled 12 points and 13 rebounds. Rashad Vaughn led the bench with 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Miami’s Derrick Jones Jr. left an undisclosed injury after playing seven minutes.

The Heat play Tuesday against the Utah Jazz. The Hornets play Monday against the Boston Celtics.
