Giannis Antetokounmpo was slowed by a back injury in the 2023 NBA Playoffs.
Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo recently had a “routine” surgical procedure on his left knee, according to Bucks coach Adrian Griffin on Wednesday.
His status for the FIBA World Cup remains unknown, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo underwent a cleanup procedure on his knee two weeks ago and is uncertain for Greece’s FIBA World Cup play this summer, sources confirm.

Last season, Antetokounmpo dealt with minor knee injuries throughout the season but was hobbled in the playoffs with a back injury. In Milwaukee’s eventual first-round loss to the Miami Heat, Antetokounmpo missed Games 2 and 3 of that series because of his sore back.
A former two-time Kia MVP, Antetokounmpo averaged 31.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, 5.7 assists per game, shooting 55.3% from the field in 32.1 minutes per game. The Bucks have had an active offseason, first by changing coaches from Mike Budenholzer to Griffin, and in the player movement window in reportedly bringing back Khris Middleton, Brook Lopez and Jae Crowder while also reportedly adding Malik Beasley and Robin Lopez to the mix.
Greece is a part of Group C in the FIBA World Cup, which also contains Team USA, Jordan and New Zealand. The tournament will take place from Aug. 25 to Sept. 10 in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia.
