What is the Lenovo Stat?
The Lenovo Stat shows the power of teamwork. It's a way of showing the best-engineered/best combination of players on the court. The Lenovo Stat is a plus/minus statistic that looks at the point differential when players are both in and out of the game, to see how the team performs with various combinations. The Lenovo Stat can look at a variety of combinations – including the best two-player, three-player and even five-player combinations for each game.

Here is a look at the top Lenovo performers through the 13th week of the 2006-07 NBA season:

Five-Player Combination

+ 183
S. Nash, S. Marion, R. Bell, A. Stoudemire, B. Diaw
+ 147
E. Dampier, D. Nowitzki, J. Terry, J. Howard, D. Harris
+ 109
T. McGrady, R. Alston, S. Battier, Y. Ming, C. Hayes

The week saw Dallas' win streak end at eight and Phoenix finally fall after 17 straight wins, but the Suns' streak as the top five-man Lenovo combination continues as a +24 week, coupled with a -11 week for Dallas, opened up a big lead for the purple and orange.

Another point on the five-player combos to consider:

  • After only five games, Chris Webber has joined with the other marquee members of the Pistons (Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, and Rasheed Wallace) to put together the best five-player team for the Pistons, +31. The Pistons have gone 4-1 in those five games.

  • Four-Player Combination

    + 268
    S. Nash, S. Marion, R. Bell, A. Stoudemire
    + 224
    S. Nash, S. Marion, A. Stoudemire, B. Diaw
    + 197
    S. Nash, S. Marion, A. Stoudemire, L. Barbosa

The Suns and Mavs have all of the top 10 four-player combos, but the Suns hold spots one through three.

Another point on the four-player combos to consider:

  • Toronto has been making a push, 7-3 in their last 10 games, to keep the Atlantic Division respectable. They have been especially good at home all year going 14-7, fourth best in the Eastern Conference. Anthony Parker has thrived in Canada all season long as he is on 15 of the top 17 four-player teams at home for the Raptors.

  • Three-Player Combination

    + 398
    S. Nash, S. Marion, A. Stoudemire
    + 318
    S. Nash, S. Marion, R. Bell
    + 284
    B. Bowen, T. Duncan, T. Parker

The rankings stay the same atop the three-player combinations but it's interesting the note that the Suns' trio of Nash, Marion and Bell had a +49 week, just slightly better than the +48 effort by Nash, Marion and Stoudemire.

Another point on the three-player combos to consider:

  • After starting the year 9-23, the Bobcats have gone 7-5 over the last 12 games. One reason for this spurt has been the insertion of sharpshooter Matt Carroll (11.2 points per game, 45 percent field goals, 40 percent 3-pointers, 90 percent free throws) into the starting lineup for each of those 12 games. Carroll has justified a position in the starting lineup by sitting on the top four three-player teams for the Bobcats.

  • Two-Player Combination

    + 451
    S. Nash, S. Marion
    + 397
    S. Nash, A. Stoudemire
    + 381
    S. Marion, A. Stoudemire

The closest duo to Phoenix's top two-player squads is the Spurs' Tim Duncan and Tony Parker who sit 33 points behind Marion and Stoudemire.

Another point on the two-player combos to consider:

  • Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler lead the two-player category in the Eastern Conference with +227. Both have also won the NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week award, making them the only pair of teammates to do so. (Josh Howard and Dirk Nowitzki, +283, have both won the Western Conference Player of the Week award).

  • .

    One Player

    + 456
    S. Nash
    + 423
    S. Marion
    + 413
    T. Duncan

Shawn Marion had a +46 week to take the No. 2 spot from Duncan who was only +19. Nash beat them both as he was +60.

Another point on the top individuals to consider:

  • A few bench players are near the top of the Lenovo leader board (Phoenix's Leandro Barbosa +241, Houston's Chuck Hayes +175). However, Tim Thomas (+93) and David Lee (+93) are the only players in the top 50 to come off the bench and be the top Lenovo performer on their team. Maybe it’s time to put these guys in the starting lineup.
