While the tragic events that took place at the Boston Marathon are still fresh in their minds, the Boston Celtics will try to shift their attention back to the court.

In its final tuneup before the playoffs, visiting Boston goes for a four-game season sweep of the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night.

The Celtics (41-39) will only play 81 games this season after Tuesday's matchup against Indiana was canceled in response to the Boston Marathon bombings.

"Out of respect to all of the people who were affected by this, the families, we felt like it's just not circumstances we wanted to play under and felt it would be the best way for us as an organization to show our respects to all of the people who are impacted by this," team president Rich Gotham told the Celtics' official website.

"I just think it was more of an emotional decision to try to do what's right and respect the families and understand that people might not want to be out."

With Indiana and Boston locked into the Eastern Conference's No. 3 and 7 seeds, Tuesday's cancellation won't have any impact on the standings.

"It would have been very difficult," forward Shavlik Randolph said of going through with the game."Obviously, I don't think anyone's thinking about basketball at a time like this. It absolutely puts things in perspective. At this time you have to think about the people that were affected, the people that were hurt by that. That's what's important."

The Celtics, who figure to come out with heavy hearts Wednesday, have taken 20 of 24 matchups from the Raptors (33-48), including all three this season by an average of 15.3 points. It's unclear, though, how coach Doc Rivers plans to use Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce with a first-round matchup against New York just around the corner. Both players have dealt with injuries over the last few weeks.

"It's a fine line between rest and health," Pierce said. "Right now we're as healthy as we're gonna be for the rest of the season. ... The most important thing is that we're ready for the playoffs."

One night after missing Friday's 109-101 loss at Miami, Garnett and Pierce returned Saturday as the Celtics posted their highest point total this season in a 120-88 rout at Orlando. Courtney Lee scored a season high-tying 20 to lead seven players in double figures for Boston, which shot 59.3 percent. Garnett added 14 on 7-of-8 shooting and nine rebounds in just 19 minutes while Pierce scored 12 to go along with eight assists and six boards.

The Raptors are coming off their fourth straight win and sixth in seven games, 113-96 at Atlanta on Tuesday. DeMar DeRozan continued his impressive play with 30 points and Rudy Gay scored 22 for Toronto, which shot 51.3 percent.

"We're playing freely. We're going out there and not thinking so much, playing with our abilities and instincts," DeRozan said. "We've got a lot of talent on this team. When we play like we played tonight, we're tough to beat."

DeRozan is averaging 23.9 points - 5.9 more than his season mark - on 55.0 percent shooting during Toronto's 6-1 run. He has, however, been limited to 13.3 per game on 38.5 percent shooting against Boston this season.

Toronto most recently won a season high-tying five straight Feb. 8-19. The Raptors haven't been swept by the Celtics since 2009-10.

Raptors rout Celtics 114-90 in season finale

TORONTO (AP) After an emotional few days, the Boston Celtics got back to basketball Wednesday night. Next up will be preparing for the playoffs.

DeMar DeRozan scored 24 points, Rudy Gay had 19 points and nine rebounds, and the Toronto Raptors routed the Celtics 114-90 to finish their season with five straight wins.

Wearing a black stripe on their jerseys, the Celtics played for the first time since Monday's bomb attack near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Players from both teams gathered at midcourt before tip-off to observe a moment of silence.

Neil Diamond's classic hit "Sweet Caroline," long associated with Boston's beloved Red Sox, played as the Celtics' starters were introduced, and a message on stadium scoreboards read, "Tonight we are all Boston fans." In the stands opposite the Toronto bench, three female fans held up a sign that read, "Send Boston Love."

"I thought it was sensational," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "I thought it was really neat. I wish the fans had known the lyrics to `Sweet Caroline' a little bit better. Other than that, it was terrific."

Celtics forward Jeff Green said he was touched by the tribute.

"It was lovely," Green said. "The city of Boston has been through so much in the past 72 hours so I think it was great to see Toronto show respect. I think the whole city appreciated it. They're dealing with a lot right now."

The Celtics had not played since Saturday night at Orlando and their game Tuesday night at home against Indiana was canceled following the bombings.

Jonas Valanciunas scored 18 points, Alan Anderson had 16 and Kyle Lowry had nine points and eight assists as the Raptors matched their longest winning streak of the season. Toronto also won five straight from Feb. 8-19.

The Raptors went 30-29 after starting the season 4-19.

"If you disregard the 4-19, then we're knocking on the door of the playoffs," Raptors coach Dwane Casey said. "We're going that way. We have to get ready for the next step."

Acquired from Memphis in a three-team trade Jan. 30, Gay stood at midcourt to deliver a brief speech before the game, thanking fans for their support and urging them to "Get ready for next year."

"This team has great bones, I've seen it," Gay said. "We have a lot of potential and have a lot of good pieces."

Jordan Crawford scored 16 points, Terrence Williams had 12 and Avery Bradley 11 for the Celtics, who wrapped up the regular season by losing for the sixth time in their final nine games.

"I thought a couple of our guys didn't handle the minutes well but at least they got to play and that's good," Rivers said.

Kevin Garnett (left ankle) and Jason Terry (sore leg) did not play for Boston, which is locked into the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference and will meet the Atlantic division-rival New York Knicks in the first round of the playoffs.

"Our first focus is defense and I believe we are ready," Green said. "Today we tried to act like (the Raptors) were New York but obviously we didn't have all of our guys."

Forward Paul Pierce, who missed Monday's practice due to illness, started for Boston but did not play in the second half. He scored 11 points in 14 minutes, going 5-for-7 from the field.

Rivers said the Celtics won't practice Thursday but will hold a walkthrough at their Toronto hotel before an evening flight to New York, where their playoff series begins Saturday afternoon.

Gay scored 12 points in the first and Valanciunas added nine, but Crawford banked in a 3 at the buzzer to pull Boston to 31-30 after one quarter.

Anderson score five points as Toronto widened its lead with a 10-0 run early in the second. The Raptors led 59-49 at the half.

Celtics forward Shavlik Randolph left at halftime with a sore lower back. Randolph scored five points in 12 minutes.

Green started the second half with a jumper but the Raptors answered with a 13-0 run, including 3-pointers by Lowry and Amir Johnson, to take a commanding 72-51 lead.

DeRozan scored 15 in the third and Toronto led 96-70 heading into the final quarter.

NOTES: Raptors rookie G Terrence Ross sat out for the third time in four games with a sore left ankle. ... Toronto finished 21-20 at home, its first winning record since the 2009-10 season. ... DeRozan became the first Raptors player to start all 82 games in multiple seasons. He also made 82 starts in 2010-11. ... Casey celebrated his 56th birthday.

THE FACTS: The Toronto Raptors (34-48) won their season-high tying fifth game in a row by defeating the Boston Celtics (41-40) 114-90 at Air Canada Centre on Wednesday.

With the Celtics locked in for the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference, they had very little to play for. Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry weren't with the team and Paul Pierce was limited to only the first of half of basketball due to rest. Toronto was only concerned with finishing the season strong by winning seven of the last eight games and only needed one quarter to assert themselves.

The Raptors went on a 10-0 run with 5:44 in the second quarter and took a 59-49 lead into halftime. They continued that same intensity starting the third on a 16-4 run, widening the gap to a 74-56 lead. Toronto extended it to as much as a 27-point lead in the quarter, making it an early night. DeMar DeRozan scored 15 in the quarter and finished with a game-high 24 points. Rudy Gay added 19 points and nine rebounds, while Jonas Valanciunas had 18 points and three blocked shots.

The Celtics were led by Jordan Crawford's 16 points and Terrence Williams' 12 points, both coming off the bench. Pierce scored 11 points in only one half of play and Avery Bradley added 11.

QUOTABLE: "Three different seasons: a 4-19 start, .500 after that where we had the sixth-best record in the Eastern Conference after the terrible start, then 30-29. If you disregard the 4-19, then we are knocking on the door of the playoffs. We have to get ready for that next step."

THE STAT: The Raptors shot an impressive 12-for-21 from behind the arc, for .571 percent. Gay made 4-for-6, while DeRozan was perfect shooting 3-for-3.

TURNING POINT: The Raptors took a 59-49 lead into halftime, with Celtics coach Doc Rivers resting Pierce for the second half and Terry and Garnett absent. The Celtics were had pressed to find some offense and defense, and Toronto took the quarter convincingly outscoring them 33-21 for a commanding 96-70 lead after three.

QUOTABLE II: "I wanted to win still, I think you should try and win whenever you have guys. I thought a couple of our guys didn't handle the minutes well, but at least they got to play and that's good."
