No matter how many players are missing, the Chicago Bulls have pulled out victories in their last two games.

No matter how the Detroit Pistons' roster has changed over the last four-plus seasons, it's been that long since the club has beaten Chicago.

The Bulls will remain short-handed Sunday night, but they have won 18 straight over a Pistons team winding down another awful season that has coach Lawrence Frank wondering about his job status.

Chicago (42-33) has been without Joakim Noah (plantar fasciitis), Richard Hamilton (back), Taj Gibson (sprained knee) and Marco Belinelli (abdominal strain) for the last two games. The Bulls won 92-90 over Brooklyn on Thursday and 87-86 over Orlando on Friday to give them six victories in eight games.

Noah hasn't played during that stretch and Belinelli has missed the last seven, but they're the closest to returning among the Bulls' injured players.

"You can say we're short-handed," said center Nazr Mohammed, who has been starting in Noah's place. "We have some great players that are out but we try to lie to ourselves and say we're not short-handed and it's just the next person's opportunity to step up. We've been doing that and we want to continue to do that until our main guys get back."

The Bulls have waited all season for the debut of star Derrick Rose, but the Pistons have been waiting far longer than that for a victory over their Central Division rivals.

Detroit (25-52) has not beaten Chicago since Dec. 23, 2008, with Rodney Stuckey and Jason Maxiell the only current Pistons to play in that contest. The only longer run for the Bulls in their history against any opponent was a 19-game streak over Detroit in the mid-1990s.

The Pistons are trying to avoid their first nine-game home skid since a 10-game slide in 1993-94. They will finish with their fifth straight losing season and fourth in a row without a playoff berth, and Frank's second season in Detroit could be his last.

"When you have a record like we have, it comes with the territory," Frank said before Saturday's 107-101 loss at Minnesota. "That's the nature of this business. It's results oriented."

Detroit has come close this season to ending its slide against Chicago, losing three meetings by a total of eight points. The Pistons led by as many as 17 points in a 108-104 defeat Dec. 7, again blew a 17-point advantage in an 85-82 loss Jan. 23 and let a 13-point lead slip away in last Sunday's 95-94 defeat.

Luol Deng has 50 points in two meetings while Nate Robinson has totaled 27 and 10 assists off the bench in the last two matchups.

Robinson sparked the win over the Magic with 12 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter. He's averaging 17.9 over the past seven games.

"I'm not afraid to fail," he said. "You're going to have to fail a lot to succeed in this game. You can't be afraid to take that shot. And you can't be afraid to miss it or make it."

The Bulls are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference, trailing the Nets by 1 1/2 games in the race for home-court advantage in the first round.

Stuckey is averaging 20.0 points in the season series to lead Detroit.

Pistons end 18-game losing streak to Bulls

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) The Detroit Pistons' season ends in four games, but they still could have some effect on the Chicago Bulls' playoff path.

Brandon Knight scored 20 points Sunday night to help the Pistons snap an 18-game losing streak against the Bulls with a 99-85 victory. The loss dropped Chicago two games behind Brooklyn in the race for the fourth seed and a chance to host a first-round series in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Jonas Jerebko added 17 points and a season-high nine rebounds for the Pistons, who also ended an eight-game home skid.

The Bulls led by as many as 11 points in the first quarter but Detroit gradually caught up and took the lead in the second after starting the period on a 12-4 run.

"From that point on, we started to get stops and get out in transition," coach Lawrence Frank said. "We made a lot of winning-type plays and played with a lot of intensity."

The Pistons took a 50-46 lead to intermission and pushed it to as many as 10 in the third quarter. Knight scored a dozen points in the period, including a 3-pointer that killed Chicago's last good chance at getting close. Detroit scored the first four points of the fourth and never let the Bulls get closer than 10 points the rest of the night.

"It felt good," said Knight, who'd seen the Pistons drop the first three games of the series against Chicago by a combined eight points.

"We were the team to not make mistakes and capitalized on their mistakes."

Jerebko and Charlie Villanueva (12 points) sparked a bench that outscored Chicago's 33-12.

Rodney Stuckey, starting in place of injured point guard Jose Calderon, had 14 points and rookie Andre Drummond, who shot airballs on two late free throws in a one-point loss at Chicago on March 31, added 10 rebounds for Detroit.

Carlos Boozer had 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulls, who played without leading scorer Luol Deng. Coach Tom Thibodeau wasn't feeling sorry for his team, which has been missing former league MVP Derrick Rose all season.

"You can't use that as an excuse," he said. "Whoever is out there, we have to go out and get the job done."

Nate Robinson added 18 points and Jimmy Butler scored 14 as Chicago's two-game winning streak ended. Two of the Bulls' last six games are against playoff-bound teams, the same number Brooklyn faces.

The teams will not see each other before the postseason.

Deng, the Bulls' leading scorer and the NBA's leader in minutes per game, missed the game with a sore hip. Thibodeau said the decision to bench him was "precautionary."

Chicago's Joakim Noah, who missed eight games with an injured right foot, and Marco Belinelli, who was out seven with an abdominal strain, each returned Sunday night. Noah finished with 13 points and seven boards.

The Bulls were aiming to match the franchise record for consecutive victories over an opponent, which also was against the Pistons. Michael Jordan's 1990s teams won 19 in a row against Detroit.

The Pistons treated home fans to their first win since the All-Star break. They hadn't won at the Palace of Auburn Hills since Feb. 13.

Notes: Calderon, who had started all 28 games since Detroit acquired him in a Jan. 30 trade, missed the game with a right triceps strain. . Chicago's last loss to the Pistons was Dec. 23, 2008. . The Bulls used their 13 different starting lineup.

THE FACTS: Brandon Knight had 20 points and five assists as the Detroit Pistons snapped an 18-game losing streak to the Chicago Bulls with a 99-85 victory at The Palace on Sunday.

Jonas Jerebko supplied 17 points and nine rebounds off the bench for the Pistons (26-52), who hadn't beaten the Bulls (42-34) since the 2008-09 season. Detroit, which took over the lead early in the second quarter, also won at home for the first time in nine games. Carlos Boozer led Chicago with 21 points and 10 rebounds, his eighth double-double in 10 games. Nate Robinson added 18 points but the Bulls dropped two games behind Brooklyn for the fourth-best record in the Eastern Conference.

QUOTABLE: "I don't think anybody can sit 30 or 40 games and come in the first game and play like nothing's happened. It takes awhile to get into it. With playing time comes confidence and you can show what you can do. I'm just working every day and trying to play as much as I can."

THE STAT: 18 -- Not only did the Pistons end their 18-game losing streak to the Bulls, Detroit guard Rodney Stuckey also ended a rough stretch in a starting role. Stuckey carried the Pistons to their last win over Chicago on Dec. 23, 2008, scoring a career-high 40 points in his second season in the league. Stuckey was the only Detroit player to appear in that game and Sunday's game.

TURNING POINT: The Pistons were up two points early in the second half but gradually built their lead in the third quarter behind Knight and Greg Monroe. Knight had 12 of his points during the quarter and Monroe came on strong late, scoring three inside buckets in the final 3:32 and feeding Will Bynum with a bounce pass for a layup. Jerebko then iced the game with 10 fourth-quarter points.

QUOTABLE II: "Trust me, we talked about it. We hadn't beaten them since [19-year-old center] Andre [Drummond] was born. But it wasn't like we were that far away. Obviously, they're ahead of us in the big picture, but we've played these guys tough. It wasn't like we had to reinvent the formula. We just needed a little bit more for a little bit longer."

HOT: Jerebko has scored at least 15 points in four of the last six games, providing production and energy that the Pistons haven't seen from him since his stellar rookie year in 2009-10. He only missed one shot and his rebounding total on Sunday was a season high.

NOT: Chicago's bench was a non-factor, contributing just 12 points and five rebounds. In comparison, the Pistons reserves had 43 points and 18 rebounds. Marco Belinelli, playing for the first time in eight games after recovering from an abdominal strain, was shut out in 20 minutes of action.

ROOKIE WATCH: Drummond was in foul trouble much of the game but still pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds. Detroit also got a combined 18 points from rookie small forwards Kyle Singer and Khris Middleton.

NOTABLE: Chicago's top defender, Joakim Noah, returned after an eight-game absence caused by plantar fasciitis in his right foot. Noah, who posted career highs of 30 points and 23 rebounds in his last visit to The Palace in December, had 13 points and seven rebounds.. ... Detroit point guard Jose Calderon did not play for the second time in three games because of a right triceps strain. It's uncertain whether he will return this season. "What we're not going to do is yo-yo him back and forth," Frank said. "We want to get it right before he comes back." ... The Bulls' Richard Hamilton missed his 19th straight game with a lower back injury and Taj Gibson sat out for the third consecutive game with a left knee strain.. ... The Pistons were 10 games over .500 in early January during the 2008-09 season. They are 106 games below .500 since that point (125-231). ... Detroit hadn't won at The Palace since Feb. 13, just before the All-Star break.
