The San Antonio Spurs are back in the playoffs and their run of 50-win seasons continues.

The Western Conference leaders, though, aren't without their flaws.

San Antonio goes for a seventh consecutive victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night when these teams close out their season series.

With Dallas' Vince Carter missing a 3-pointer in the final second on Thursday, San Antonio (50-16) opened its four-game homestand with a 92-91 victory. The Spurs also clinched a postseason spot for the 16th straight season and extended their NBA-record streak with at least 50 wins to 14.

Still, the Spurs have plenty of room for improvement. They've dropped two of four, with those defeats to Portland and Minnesota coming by a total of 54 points.

"We continued to play in mud like we have been for the last two weeks," said coach Gregg Popovich, whose team is averaging 87.5 points and shooting 39.8 percent in its last two contests. "I'm not sure what to attribute it to, but it's a fact."

Missing Tony Parker for the last six games probably has something to do with it. The All-Star point guard, who is having one of his best seasons with 21.0 points per game and 7.6 assists, is supposed to miss another two weeks with a Grade 2 left ankle sprain.

"We need to get the ball moving again, and people moving again, try to push it a little bit more," Manu Ginobili said after Friday's practice. "Of course without Tony it's a little harder, because this season we got used to relying on him a lot, but now he's not here, he's going to miss a few more games and we've got to keep winning."

The Spurs, 27-4 at home, haven't lost to Cleveland (22-43) since March 8, 2010, after a 3-pointer by Kawhi Leonard with 2.9 seconds left was the difference in a 96-95 victory on Feb. 13.

San Antonio was playing with Parker, Ginobili and Tim Duncan for the first time in exactly a month due to injuries to its Big Three.

Duncan, who missed Tuesday's 25-point loss at the Timberwolves with a sore knee, said he's feeling better after scoring 28 points and coming one rebound shy of his 22nd 20-20 game on Thursday.

"The pain (in the knee) is gone and I'm starting to feel like I can actually play the game," Duncan said.

While Popovich can lean on Duncan, Ginobili, Leonard and many others to pick up the slack with Parker out, Cavs coach Byron Scott doesn't have that same luxury with All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving possibly done for the season with a sprained left shoulder.

With their best scorer and distributor gone, the Cavs have to limit mistakes. They committed six of their 18 turnovers in the fourth quarter of Friday's 96-86 loss at Dallas and were outscored 29-18 during that 12-minute stretch.

"I thought we got a little upset at ourselves at the way we were defending," Scott said. "We kind of let that affect us on the other end."

Rookie guard Dion Waiters, though, finished with 21 points to reach 20 in a season high-tying three straight games. With Irving held to a season-low six points, the No. 4 overall pick scored a team-best 20 in last month's loss to San Antonio.

The Spurs, 10-1 at home against East opponents, have won three in a row with the Cavs in town by an average of 15.0 points.

Duncan, Leonard lead Spurs over Cavs, 119-113

SAN ANTONIO (AP) The San Antonio Spurs are without Tony Parker and their usual fire on defense, but they still have Tim Duncan. They needed the All-Star power forward to overcome their alarming lack of defense.

Duncan had 30 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks, and the Spurs beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 119-113 on Saturday night.

Kawhi Leonard added 24 points and 13 boards, and Manu Ginobili added 14 points and 10 assists for San Antonio (51-16), which is 1 1/2 games ahead of Oklahoma City for the top seed in the Western Conference.

"Tim saved our (butt)," said Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, who was ejected midway through the second quarter. "He obviously carried the whole night for us. He was great. It shouldn't have to be that way."

Nando De Colo had 11 points and Tiago Splitter 10 for the Spurs.

Playing without its top two players in point guard Kyrie Irving and center Anderson Varejao, Cleveland (22-44) led 103-102 with 5 minutes left in the game.

Opponents were averaging 96.2 points against the Spurs entering Saturday's game, but the Cavaliers had 90 after three quarters. For a franchise and a coach that has won four NBA titles on the shoulders of its defense, the lack of focus is troubling to say the least.

"We've got to step up and play better," Ginobili said. "The playoffs are around the corner; 15 games to go and we are doing worse than at the beginning of the season. We've got to go by this slump and get our things together."

Wayne Ellington had 21 points and fellow reserve Marreese Speights added 19 for Cleveland. Shaun Livingston had 16 points, and Alonzo Gee and Dion Waiters added 15 apiece.

Neither offense was slowed by the loss of its starting All-Star point guards. Parker is expected to miss another two weeks with a Grade 2 left ankle sprain and Cleveland will be without Irving (shoulder) for another three weeks.

It was defense that both teams were lacking.

"We've been emphasizing for two and half weeks and it hasn't done any good," Popovich said. "I need to learn another language or I don't know what. But, very disappointed in our defensive execution in the last two to three weeks after we raised our stock from being a middle of the road defensive team last year to one of the top two or three this year.

"Then in the last three weeks, we decide to toss it; that it's not important. I'm really concerned and disappointed in that."

Frustration with that defense may have led to Popovich's ejection. He was ejected with 6:33 left in the first half after arguing a charge Ed Malloy called on Boris Diaw against Luke Walton. After the initial technical, Popovich was quickly assessed a second and ejected after storming onto the court, yelling and pointing at Malloy.

San Antonio outscored Cleveland 19-12 down the stretch, but the Cavs shot 51 percent from the field.

Duncan blocked Tristan Thompson's layup attempt with the Spurs leading 113-109 and 54.9 seconds remaining. Duncan also blocked Waiters' shot with 17.9 seconds left and San Antonio leading 116-111.

It was two of the few defensive highlights for the Spurs.

"It's not been great and I don't know why," Duncan said. "I think the effort is there. We're playing hard. We're giving up too many straight drives right to the rim. We've got find a way to kind of counter that; find a way to clean that up."

Duncan had 13 points in the first quarter, going 6 for 9 and collecting six rebounds.

He tossed in a 2-foot jumper that gave the Spurs a 30-21 lead with 3 minutes left in the first quarter. Leonard picked up an assist on the basket, hustling in from out of bounds to tip his own missed shot to Duncan.

"We're moving the ball and it's gone to the post a little more," Duncan said. "That's where I'm a little more effective. I still haven't gotten my shot back the way I want it. I'm just trying to be aggressive."

Waiters' 3 with 7 minutes left in the first half capped a 13-5 run that gave the Cavaliers a 48-44 lead.

After CJ Miles made both free throws on Popovich's technicals, the Spurs closed the first half on a 22-11 run to take a 66-61 lead. Ginobili had eight points in the run and Duncan added seven.

Cleveland shot 61 percent from the field in the first half.

"I think they're the best team in the league," Cavaliers coach Byron Scott said. "I don't know if they're going to win it. They have the best talent and the best coach, so they have a great shot of winning another championship. I think for us, we played this game really well."

The Spurs never trailed in the third quarter, but Livingston's layup with 1:20 left tied the game at 90 to set up the fourth quarter.

NOTES: Varejao, who missed his 41st game, will not return after being diagnosed with a blood clot in his lung. . Splitter is the only player to appear in every game for San Antonio this season, having started 45 of 67 games. . The Spurs continue to use their D-League affiliate to develop their young reserves, sending De Colo and Aron Baynes to the Austin Toros on Friday. De Colo was recalled prior to Saturday's game, playing 24 minutes while going 4 for 6 from the field. . San Antonio is 34-6 overall at home against Cleveland. . Ellington (ankle) played 22 minutes after being listed as a game-time decision.

THE FACTS: It didn't matter that dynamic point guards Tony Parker and Kyrie Irving missed this game. There was plenty of offense as the San Antonio Spurs shot 58 percent from the field and Tim Duncan scored 30 points in San Antonio's 119-113 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday at AT&T Center.

The Spurs (51-16) missed Parker for a seventh straight game (they are 5-2 without him) with an ankle sprain and the Cavs did not have Irving for the third game (1-2 without him) because of a shoulder sprain. But Duncan had Parker-like numbers, hitting 13-for-19 and being joined in double figures in the starting group by Kawhi Leonard's 24 points off 8-for-16 shooting.

Cleveland (22-44) also hit more than half its shots (51 percent), led by seven points in the first half and had a one-point lead as late as five minutes to go. Wayne Ellington, who missed Friday's game at Dallas with a sprained ankle, shot 8-for-13 (4-7 from the 3-point line) for 21 points.

QUOTABLE: "They've still got star power. Still, to me, they play better than anybody in the league. They may not be the most talented, but they play better than anybody in the league."

THE STAT: The Spurs finished with 32 assists and now are 13-0 when they finish the game with at least 30 assists.

TURNING POINT: Cleveland led 103-102 when Ellington hit a layup with five minutes remaining. But the Spurs scored nine straight points with a pair of baskets from Duncan and two buckets from Leonard -- including a 3-pointer -- and San Antonio was up by eight with less than three minutes left.

HOT: Ellington opened by hitting his first four shots. His game total was his best effort since going 7-for-9 (3-for-3 on 3-pointers) on Jan. 21 in a loss against Indiana.

NOT: Cavaliers forward Tristan Thompson, who played less than two hours away in Austin at University of Texas two seasons ago, shot 3-for-12 while Duncan was blocking five shots underneath. It was his first night shooting less than 50 percent from the floor in eight games, and Thompson also failed to collect double digits in either scoring or rebounding for the first time in 35 games.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: Duncan, just off a 28-point, 19-rebound night against Dallas on Thursday, scored 30, had 12 rebounds, four assists and five blocked shots.

ROOKIE WATCH: Dion Waiters scored 15 and had a chance for his season-high fourth straight game of scoring at least 20 points. ... Nando De Colo was 4-for-6, including 3-for-4 on 3-pointers, for 11 points for the Spurs a night after playing for Austin in the NBA D-League.

NOTABLE: Spurs coach Gregg Popovich was ejected after the Spurs blew a nine-point lead and trailed by four with 6 1/2 minutes left in the first half when Boris Diaw was called for an offensive foul. ... This was the second of a back-to-back for Cleveland as the Cavs lost by 10 on Friday at Dallas. ... San Antonio has defeated Cleveland eight straight times.
