The Indiana Pacers have virtually no chance of catching the Eastern Conference leaders, but they still have plenty at stake.

Coach Frank Vogel hopes his team remembers that when it seeks a fourth straight home win on Wednesday night facing the injury-plagued Minnesota Timberwolves.

Looking to end Miami's 17-game winning streak and sweep the three-game season series, Indiana (39-24) lost 105-91 in South Beach on Sunday to fall nine games behind the Heat.

The Pacers are now 9 1/2 back, but they're four up on second-place Chicago in the Central Division race and percentage points behind the Atlantic Division-leading New York Knicks for the No. 2 spot in the East.

"We've got to win the Central Division first then try to get the two seed second," Vogel said after Tuesday's practice. "We've got to take care of every game."

If any of the Pacers were overlooking the Timberwolves (22-39), watching them rout West-leading San Antonio 107-83 on Tuesday should have caught their attention. Minnesota has been without Kevin Love (broken right hand), Nikola Pekovic (abdominal strain), Andrei Kirilenko (strained left calf), Malcolm Lee (right knee) and Chase Budinger (knee), so it wasn't about to apologize for beating a Spurs team missing Tony Parker, Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard to injury.

The Timberwolves had lost eight of nine before point guard Ricky Rubio posted his first career triple-double with 21 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists.

"He's had that effort, but we had so many people step up tonight and it really made a big difference," coach Rick Adelman said.

Minnesota now has a chance to win back-to-back games for the first time since winning a season-high four straight from Dec. 7-15.

The Timberwolves are also eyeing their first sweep of the Pacers since 2006-07 after Budinger's layup with 0.8 seconds left gave them a 96-94 victory on Nov. 9.

Budinger, who led Minnesota with 18 points in that game, hasn't played since tearing his left meniscus Nov. 10 in Chicago. However, he said Tuesday that he's been cleared to resume practice with no restrictions.

Love could also be nearing his first action since Jan. 3 as he's scheduled to meet with his surgeon in New York on Wednesday.

Pekovic is expected to miss a seventh consecutive game, while Kirilenko's return after sitting out the last seven is unlikely.

"They're limited obviously, with their injuries, but that really doesn't matter in this league," Vogel said.

Indiana isn't without injury concerns of its own. Danny Granger has been out the last three games with a sore left knee and will miss at least the next three.

Pacers point guard George Hill, who scored a season-high 29 points in the November loss, will face Rubio for the first time. The Wolves guard has missed the last two games against Indiana due to a torn ACL, while Hill did not play against Rubio - who had 10 points and six assists - in Indiana's 109-99 win at Minnesota on Feb. 1, 2012, due to a sprained ankle.

Hibbert's double-double lifts Pacers past Wolves

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Roy Hibbert knew he was going to get the ball. It was just up to him what he was going to do with it.

It's been a slow process for the Indiana Pacers' center to playing up to expectations - a process that has stretch over the course of much of the season.

However, when teammate Paul George told him before the game he was getting the ball, Hibbert capitalized by scoring a season-high 27 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Pacers to a 107-91 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night.

"Paul told me before the game that he was going to throw it down to me every time and I appreciate that," Hibbert said. "I just feel like the atmosphere on the court and when we play hard, things are fun out there.

"Everybody's scoring and getting stops and things like that. We like to see our team succeed."

Hibbert is just a piece of the puzzle and starting to fit in place quite comfortably. Along with the season-best scoring night, had nine offensive boards and four blocks.

"Roy Hibbert was the star of the game," Pacers coach Frank Vogel said. "He was dominant at both ends. You can see in his body language he is playing more confident."

George had 17 points and George Hill added 16 points with six assists to help the Pacers get their second win in three games and remain in the hunt with the New York Knicks for the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference.

Ricky Rubio had 21 points and 10 assists and Luke Ridnour scored 17 points for the Timberwolves, who have lost nine of their last 11 games.

"We played hard, we just didn't have enough," Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman said. "We ran out of gas in the second half, but they competed."

The Pacers went on an 8-0 run at the end of the first half to take a 62-54 lead at halftime. They stretched the advantage to 16 late in the third quarter as George hit a fadeaway jumper and then a 3-pointer to put Indiana up 86-66 with 2:06 to go in the period.

"We knew that we needed to come out with energy and that's kind of the case every game," George said. "The third quarter is really where you set the tone and we knew that's what we had to do."

The Timberwolves didn't lead the entire game, but still didn't make it easy for the Pacers to pull away.

Rubio hit a 3-pointer and Ridnour made a layup before Hill's made it 67-59 early in the third. Hill made another layup to give the Pacers a 71-61 lead before Rubio hit another 3.

Hibbert scored two baskets and David West another to put the Pacers up 77-66 with 4:17 remaining in the third.

Barea hit a 3-pointer and Dante Cunningham scored at the start of the fourth quarter before Hibbert made a basket and Orlando Johnson hit a 3-pointer to give the Pacers an 87-76 lead.

"We were fighting them all the way through the game, but in the fourth quarter I think we gave them too many easy baskets," Rubio said. "We had a lot of turnovers, we tried to make a run, but we couldn't get over the hump."

Indiana took a solid lead at the start of the game before the Timberwolves climbed back.

The Pacers jumped out to a 12-2 lead to start the game. Hibbert had a jumper and George and Hill hit back-to-back 3s, and Hill made another basket before Rubio scored two free throws.

Hibbert scored with 9:17 left in the first quarter to give the Pacers a 10-point lead early.

Things are falling into place for the Pacers, who are neck-and-neck with the Knicks for the second spot in the east behind Miami.

George says their success this season is because nobody is worried about statistics.

"It helps, you have a locker room where everybody gets along and enjoys being around one another," George said. "It goes a long ways."

THE FACTS: While the Indiana Pacers continue to wait on Danny Granger, they are welcoming the return of Roy Hibbert. The 7-foot-2 center continued his recent surge with a season-high 27 points on 10-for-15 shooting, adding 12 rebounds and four blocked shots as the Pacers rolled past a seriously short-handed Minnesota team 107-91 Wednesday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. It was the ninth consecutive game in double figures for Hibbert, a former All-Star who struggled mightily with his shot throughout the first half of the season. Paul George battled foul trouble but scored 17 for Indiana (40-24), while George Hill added 16 with six assists. Coming off his first career triple-double in a victory over San Antonio Tuesday night, Ricky Rubio fell four rebounds shy of another, finishing with 21 points, 10 assists and six boards to lead Minnesota (22-40), which dropped its sixth in a row on the road.

QUOTABLE: "Roy Hibbert was dominating on both ends. We didn't go to him more than we usually do with them fronting the post but when you do front the post it opens up offensive rebound opportunities and he dominated in that area with nine."

THE STAT: In six games in March, Hibbert has averaged 16.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.33 blocked shots while shooting 40-for-71 (.563). He has three double-doubles in his last five games.

TURNING POINT: Despite having only nine healthy players, the Timberwolves did a nice job of hanging around much of the game and trailed just 73-66 midway through the third period. But George hit a couple of buckets, including a 3-pointer, to cap a 9-0 surge that pushed Indiana's lead to 82-66. Minnesota had one more surge, scoring 10 in a row to close to 82-76 with 9:52 remaining, but rookie Orlando Johnson scored 10 of his 12 points in the final 9:10 to help Indiana pull away.

HOT: George made 4-for-6 from the 3-point line. ... David West shot 6-for-8 and had 13 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for Indiana. ... Johnson shot 5-for-8. ... Rubio entered the game just 8-for-45 (.178) from the 3-point line but went 2-for-3. ... Luke Ridnour scored 17 on 8-for-15 shooting for the Timberwolves, while Dante Cunningham shot 5-for-6 and scored 12 off the bench.

He will miss at least two more games before being re-evaluated at the end of the week. ... Timberwolves forward Kevin Love, (right hand surgery) who was hoping to be cleared Wednesday to resume practice, was instead told he would have to wait at least two weeks before being re-evaluated again. He missed his 33rd game. ... Chase Budinger (knee) and has been cleared to practice and could return soon for Minnesota. ...
