One game separates the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder in the race for the Western Conference's best record.

The Thunder have won five straight and will look to pull even with a Spurs team playing without Tony Parker in Monday night's marquee matchup at the AT&T Center.

San Antonio (48-15) leads Oklahoma City (47-16) for the conference's top record, although it's debatable how important that may be since the Thunder didn't have home-court advantage in eliminating the Spurs in six games in last year's conference finals.

"It's important, no matter how guys try to look at it," Thunder center Kendrick Perkins said. "You always want home court as many playoff series as you can. We are going in there to try to get the win, and it's very important."

These teams have split two meetings this season, with Manu Ginobili missing both. He knows the challenge that the Thunder possess.

"(Kevin) Durant is shooting great, scoring like always," Ginobili said. "(Russell) Westbrook is so fast and gets you off guard in transition with his speed. (Kevin) Martin comes off the bench, (Serge) Ibaka is shooting way better than last year or at least it looks like it."

The Spurs will again be without Parker, expected to miss four weeks with a Grade 2 left ankle sprain. San Antonio won its first two games without him before Friday's 136-106 loss to Portland, marking the franchise's worst defeat in Tim Duncan's 16 seasons and the second-worst ever at home.

"The team knew that even though we won the first two without him didn't mean anything," Ginobili said. "That's usually what happens when you have a player down, other players step up and the emotion but in the long term it's going to hurt you. So we need Tony back as soon as possible."

The 136 points were the most by a Spurs opponent at the AT&T Center. Now San Antonio must try to slow down Durant, the league's leading scorer at 28.4 points per game, and the Thunder, second in the NBA at 106.7 points per contest.

Durant's 21.0 points per game against the Spurs this season represent his lowest mark against any West foe. San Antonio guard Danny Green shared his thoughts on defending the superstar.

"I would probably make him, force him to his left a little bit, give myself a chance to contest his right-hand jumper if he does pull up for a jumper but I'm mostly looking for help," Green said. "I'm going to send him to Timmy if you ask me."

Second-year guard Cory Joseph has taken Parker's place in the lineup and will face the Thunder for the first time this season. He'll likely be matched up with Westbrook, who averaged 30.6 points over the first seven games of this 8-1 stretch for Oklahoma City before totaling 26 over the last two.

Durant and Westbrook combined for 38 points in Sunday's defensive-minded 91-79 home win over Boston.

The Thunder's only lower point totals this season were in an 87-83 victory at Portland on Jan. 13 and an 86-84 defeat to the Spurs in their Nov. 1 opener when Parker hit a winning shot at the buzzer.

These teams conclude their season series April 4 in Oklahoma City.

Splitter helps Spurs beat Thunder 105-93

SAN ANTONIO (AP) The San Antonio Spurs rebounded from their worst loss of the season with a balanced performance against one of the NBA's best teams.

This was one satisfying victory.

Tiago Splitter had 21 points and 10 rebounds, and San Antonio snapped Oklahoma City's five-game winning streak with a 105-93 victory on Monday night.

"I think everybody played well," Splitter said. "I was one of them. You play well and you feel better. You want to play well against these kinds of teams, these playoff teams. Of course, we've got to stay humble. It's one more game."

Kawhi Leonard scored 17 points, Danny Green had 16 and Tim Duncan finished with 13 as San Antonio (49-15) maintained the Western Conference's top record. Manu Ginobili had 12 points and Boris Diaw added 11 as the Spurs' reserves outscored their counterparts 34-16.

"We had a lot of great play from the bench," Duncan said. "That second squad came in there and kind of changed the tempo and took control of the game."

Kevin Durant had 26 points and Russell Westbrook added 25 for the Thunder (47-17), who have lost six straight in San Antonio. Serge Ibaka was the only other player in double figures, adding 13 points and 16 rebounds.

San Antonio's defense was the difference, turning an evenly matched battle into its third victory in four games without Tony Parker. The All-Star point guard is going to miss another three weeks with a sprained left ankle.

"Normally teams don't push us out so we can't run our offense," Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks said. "They did a good job of being physical with us. We're usually in attack mode and we're able to get better catches and better execution. That's something we can get better from. We've always done a great job of watching film and throwing it on the practice floor to improve on."

The Spurs lost 136-106 to Portland on Friday night, with the Trail Blazers setting a record for most points by an opponent at the AT&T Center and handing the Spurs their second-worst home loss ever.

A couple days later, it was a much different story for San Antonio.

Oklahoma City had only two baskets in the opening 10 minutes of the fourth, but was 11 for 12 on free throws. The Thunder went 4 for 20 from the field in the final period.

"We just stuck with it," Duncan said. "It was great to see the tide turn and us turn up our aggressiveness on defense."

Durant was 7 for 13 from the field, compared to 11 for 27 by Westbrook. Durant said the shot differential was a product of the flow of the game.

"I can do whatever I want on offense," he said. "I can come down and take 30 shots, but that is not the right brand of basketball for me. I was trying to make the right basketball play. The Spurs do such a great job of making me pass the ball. I was picking and choosing my shots. I trust my teammates."

Asked about San Antonio's defense and the Spurs' run in the second half, Westbrook offered the same terse reply.

"They made some shots," he said.

San Antonio scored the first nine points of the fourth to take a 92-74 lead with 9 minutes left.

Oklahoma City played Sunday afternoon in a 91-79 home victory over the Boston Celtics, but still managed to outrebound the Spurs 15-4 in the opening quarter, including a 5-0 advantage on offensive rebounds.

"No team ends up being a really good team without playing good `D,' " Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "We played very poor defense in the first quarter. It looked like a continuation of the Portland game. But in the second quarter, we held them to 18 and we played a little more individual `D,' took a look more pride in it. And the team `D' was better. It's always about defense. If you don't play good defense, you're nothing in this league."

San Antonio made its first five shots, with Duncan hitting a pair of jumpers over Kendrick Perkins to help the Spurs to a 10-4 lead with 9 minutes left in the first. The Spurs then proceeded to go 2 for 10, enabling the Thunder to rally.

Ibaka drove to the hole and threw in a floater off Oklahoma City's fifth offensive rebound for a 24-14 lead.

After missing their first four 3 pointers, Green hit back-to-back attempts and Leonard hit another to pull San Antonio to 42-40 and force an Oklahoma City timeout. The 3s were part of a 23-4 run that gave San Antonio a 57-46 lead with 41.4 seconds left in the first half.

The run included Leonard stripping Westbrook at the basket, driving the length of the court and throwing down a left-handed dunk as Ibaka began to close in on the right. The basket made it 53-46.

Leonard guarded Durant primarily, and the All-Star attempted only one 3-pointer.

"Just coming out, having confidence in myself to guard him," Leonard said. "You know he's going to score points, but just trying to contest him. Not make it easy for him out there; he knocked down a couple of tough shots in the first quarter, so I just kept trying to move on from there."

NOTES: Splitter has eight double-doubles this season after collecting only three in his first two seasons. . Over the past four seasons, only the Spurs (210) have more victories than the Thunder (199). ... The Thunder, Spurs, Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Clippers are the only Western Conference teams with a winning road record.

THE FACTS: Fresh off a 30-point home-court loss and still without Tony Parker, the San Antonio Spurs managed to win a key Western Conference matchup between the top two seeds in a 105-93 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday at AT&T Center.

Tiago Splitter scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds and three other Spurs starters scored in double figures (Kawhi Leonard had 17, Danny Green 16 and Tim Duncan 13). The Spurs (49-15) shot 52 percent from the floor and limited Oklahoma City to 43 percent (San Antonio allowed 61-percent shooting to Portland in the Trail Blazers' 136-106 win at San Antonio on Friday).

Kevin Durant scored 26 points for the Thunder (47-17), but it was almost like 10 of those came in garbage time in the fourth quarter when San Antonio led by as much as 18 points. Russell Westbrook added 25 points, but he shot 11-for-27.

QUOTABLE: "The defense in the first quarter looked like a continuation of the Portland game. In the second quarter, we held them to 18 points. We took a little more pride in it and the team 'D' was better. It's always about defense."

THE STAT: Not only did it take Westbrook 27 shots from the floor to score 25 points, the swing in his assists from the first quarter to the end of the game changed things greatly. He had five assists in the first quarter and the Thunder led 32-22. But he had just one assist the rest of the way, and OKC was outscored 83-61.

TURNING POINT: After OKC had that 10-point lead after the first quarter, the Spurs shot 68 percent in the second quarter and outscored OKC 35-18. In the second quarter, Durant played the entire 12 minutes, but took only three shots from the floor and did not make it to the foul line. On the other hand, Westbrook and Kendrick Perkins each got off four shots (and combined to go 3-for-8). The Spurs led at halftime 57-50. The Thunder cut the Spurs led to 71-70 with less than three minutes left in the third after Westbrook hit his first six shots from the floor. Yet, Durant wasn't firing on all cylinders -- in fact he misfired badly with four turnovers and 1-for-4 from the floor. Westbrook missed both of his shots the rest of the quarter and San Antonio closed out the third by outscoring Oklahoma City 12-4 and soon led by double digits the rest of the game.

HOT: Splitter went 9-for-11 tonight -- most off pick-and-roll dives to the basket but also on some low-post moves -- and he is 18-for-24 (75 percent) his last three games.

NOT: Westbrook has gotten off more than 20 shots from the floor in two of the past four games. In those games he's 19-for-49 (almost 39 percent).

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: Splitter has double-double games in two of the last three, and three of the last five.

GOOD MOVE: There was no Parker to keep Westbrook occupied, so Popovich's first substitution that affected Westbrook came when Gary Neal was sent out to play point. Neal's outside shooting ability and overall court sense (he led the Spurs with six assists) during the second quarter forced Westbrook to give more attention to the defensive end, and Westbrook went 1-for-4 and missed his only foul shot and had a turnover but no assists.

BAD MOVE: There's plenty of time left to judge the trade that sent James Harden to Houston for Kevin Martin. But this was not a game-breaker night for Martin. He was 3-for-8 and had nine points.

ROOKIE WATCH: Nando De Colo of the Spurs did not enter the game for San Antonio. He hasn't played as many as 15 minutes in any of the games at point guard since Parker was injured, and the last three has totaled less than six minutes.

NOTABLE: The Spurs have the inside track on the No. 1 seed in the West after this one. They're up two games on OKC, but it's really three because they have a 2-1 advantage in the season series to top the tiebreaker. There are 18 games left for each team, and the Spurs have 11 of them at home compared to nine at home for the Thunder. ... OKC turned the ball over 19 times that led to 25 points for San Antonio compared to 12 turnovers for San Antonio leading to 14 OKC points. ... OKC had gone 18-straight games with their opponents shooting less than 50 percent until the Spurs shot 52 percent tonight.
