The Utah Jazz have fallen out of eighth place in the Western Conference following a disappointing road trip.

Now they're hoping to regain a share of the final playoff spot in their return to Salt Lake City.

The Jazz will try to snap a four-game losing streak and beat the sinking Detroit Pistons for the 10th straight time at home on Monday night.

With Utah (32-31) mired in its longest losing streak of the season, the surging Los Angeles Lakers took a half-game lead in the conference standings with their win over Chicago on Sunday.

The Jazz, meanwhile, are on the verge of falling to .500 after losing all four games on their road swing and seven of eight overall. They lost their first three on the trip by a total of five points before getting routed 113-84 at New York on Saturday.

Reserve Alec Burks had a team-high 14 points against the Knicks as the Jazz shot 38.5 percent from the field - their worst shooting performance in more than two months.

"Obviously there's not anybody in here that's not frustrated at this point, from players to coaching staff to the trainers. Everybody is frustrated," forward Marvin Williams said. "It's a crucial time of the season. We're in a serious spot right now and each game we've got to come out and play with a sense of urgency."

The Jazz will try to avoid falling further behind as they return to Salt Lake City for the first time since a 30-point win over Charlotte on March 1 to improve to 22-8 at home. While Utah hasn't been nearly as dominant with a 3-3 record in its last six at EnergySolutions Arena, they haven't had any issues there against the Pistons.

The Jazz have won 20 of 22 at home in this series, including nine straight by an average of 9.7 points. They also rallied back from a 15-point deficit in a 90-87 victory at Detroit on Jan. 12 for their 13th win in 14 meetings overall.

Al Jefferson led the way with 20 points and 10 rebounds in that victory, but had just seven points and four rebounds on Saturday in his second game back after missing the previous three with an ankle injury.

Jefferson has averaged 24.3 points on 64.2 percent shooting in his last three against the Pistons.

Paul Millsap, who had 17 points and seven rebounds in the first meeting, is expected to be a game-time decision because of right knee inflammation that sidelined him for Saturday's loss.

After averaging 86.0 points in their last two games, the Jazz will try to get back on track against a Detroit team that has allowed an average of 105.0 while dropping eight of nine.

The Pistons (23-42) lost their fifth straight on Sunday, falling 129-97 to the Los Angeles Clippers in the opener of a four-game road trip.

"We should be able to play better, it doesn't matter what our position is in the standings or if we're playing a good or bad team," said Jose Calderon, who led Detroit with 18 points and hit 4 of 5 from 3-point range.

Coach Lawrence Frank missed his third straight game due to a family matter. Assistant Brian Hill, who's running the team in the meantime, doesn't expect Frank back on this trip.

Brandon Knight had a team-high 16 points against the Jazz in January and is averaging 18.3 in his last six games since missing three with a hyperextended knee. The Pistons, however, have scored just 88.4 per game - 6.0 below their season average - in their last nine contests.

They've dropped 31 of 32 on the road versus West opponents, including 14 in a row.

Jazz stop slide with 103-90 victory over Pistons

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Mo Williams is working his way back into playing shape after missing much of the season with a thumb injury.

He was feeling pretty good on Monday night.

Williams scored 20 points, Al Jefferson had 16 and the Utah Jazz snapped a four-game losing streak with a 103-90 victory over the Detroit Pistons.

Williams had surgery on his right thumb on Jan. 3 and missed 32 games before he returned Wednesday against Cleveland. He went 9 for 14 from the field and had six assists against the Pistons in by far his best game since the operation.

"I don't know how long it will be before I get fully back," Williams said. "But this is a good game for me confidence-wise. You miss a lot of games like that and you want to get your confidence back. You want to be able to be aggressive but you don't want to be aggressive and hurt the team."

Reserves Marvin Williams and Enes Kanter added 14 points apiece for the Jazz (33-31), who moved into a tie with the idle Los Angeles Lakers for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Utah had dropped seven of eight overall.

Rodney Stuckey, Greg Monroe and Jonas Jerebko each had 15 points for the Pistons (23-43), who lost their sixth straight game.

The Jazz returned home after a winless four-game trip and got back on the right track by controlling the area around the basket. Utah outrebounded Detroit 47-30, and Derrick Favors had three of the Jazz's nine blocked shots.

"They really hurt us on the offensive glass," Monroe said. "That might have been the key to the game tonight."

The Pistons closed to 84-79 on Will Bynum's two free throws with 7:01 left, but Mo Williams helped Utah hold on for the sorely needed victory.

Williams made a 3-pointer and a jumper to spark a decisive 12-3 run. He capped the surge with a driving layup that gave the Jazz a 100-85 lead with 2:00 left.

Detroit point guard Brandon Knight sprained his left ankle in the first quarter and did not return. His leg buckled after he was fouled by Jazz guard Randy Foye on a drive to the basket.

X-rays revealed no broken bones, but it sounds as if the Pistons could be without their floor leader for a while.

"The only thing I know is that it is not broke," coach Brian Hill said. "We will have to get more diagnosis than that, but it appears to be a very severe sprain right now."

It's been a rough couple of days for Knight, who was on receiving end of a monster dunk by DeAndre Jordan in Detroit's 129-97 loss at the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday night.

Utah opened the second quarter with a 16-2 run to take a 36-21 lead. Kanter finished off the run by with an underhanded layup.

"We have good players and I never had the thought that they were about to come back on us," Kanter said. "Whenever the bench came in, we just did a really good job."

Detroit rallied in the second half. Jose Calderon made a 3-pointer and a jumper as the Pistons put together a 9-2 surge that trimmed Utah's lead to 55-46 with 8:57 left.

Stuckey fed Monroe for a layup that got the Pistons within six heading to the final period, but the rally fizzled down the stretch.

The Pistons have now lost 14 times in their last 15 games against Utah.

"I thought our guys were really focused," Utah coach Tyrone Corbin said. "They understood the sense of urgency. Regardless of who we're playing, we have to get better as a team and we have to perform."

THE FACTS: After a brutally unsuccessful four-game road trip, the Utah Jazz were able to get back on track at home -- and against a favorable opponent.

The Jazz rolled past the Pistons 103-90 on Monday night, handing Detroit its sixth straight defeat. Mo Williams had 20 points and six assists, while Al Jefferson had his 29th double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead Utah.

Marvin Williams and Enes Kanter both came off the bench and scored 14 points apiece for Utah.

Greg Monroe, Rodney Stuckey and Jonas Jerebko each scored 15 points for the Pistons, who have lost 15 straight road games against Western Conference opponents. Monroe also had 13 rebounds to record his 30th double-double of the season.

QUOTABLE: "It was great. Any time you're on the road and you come back that first game back is traditionally a tough game for you, but I thought our guys were really focused. They understood the sense of urgency, regardless of who we are playing or how we have to get better as a team and how we have to perform."

THE STAT: The Jazz are tough to beat at home when they're dominant on the boards, and they were against Detroit on Monday. They had a 47-30 edge in rebounds against the Pistons with 11 of the boards coming on offense. It was quite the discrepancy after the two teams had the same number of rebounds the first time they played in Detroit earlier this season.

TURNING POINT: After a sluggish first quarter, the Jazz built a comfortable lead in the second period. They went on a 12-0 run to build a 36-21 lead, and then were able to mostly coast the rest of the way. Jeremy Evans started the spurt with a rare long jumper, and Alec Burks and Gordon Hayward drained back-to-back 3-pointers. Hayward's 3 was a momentum changer -- and came at the end of a long possession. Evans collected two offensive rebounds on that possession after misses by Burks and Hayward before Hayward buried a long bomb to put Utah ahead 32-21.

HOT: Marvin Williams had one of his best all-around games at home this season. He shot 5-for-8 and had six rebounds, four assists and two steals while giving the Jazz a lift off the bench, Kanter continues to progress. He shot 7-for-9 and had eight rebounds. Fans were upset when he was pulled out of the game in the fourth quarter, and booed as Jefferson replaced him. Evans was efficient for the Jazz as he had eight points, seven rebounds, a career-high five assists and two blocked shots in 24 minutes. Overall, Utah's bench was solid as it outscored Detroit's starters, 54-49. Jose Calderon was outstanding for Detroit, as he shot 6-for-8, scored 14 points, dished seven assists and had two steals. Khris Middleton shot 4-for-5 from 3-point range and scored 12 points for the Pistons.

NOT: It's been a difficult couple of days for Detroit's Brandon Knight. After one of the season's most memorable dunks came at his expense by the Los Angeles Clippers' DeAndre Jordan on Sunday -- a highlight that was shown relentlessly by national TV shows on Monday -- Knight suffered an injury against Utah. He sprained his left ankle less than four minutes into Monday's game and did not return. For the Jazz, Randy Foye shot 0-for-4 from 3-point range, while Burks shot 2-for-7 and had four turnovers in 22 minutes.

QUOTABLE II: "Guys definitely played hard tonight. We came up short obviously, but the effort was definitely there. If we would have made a couple more shots, we could have been in a position to win the game, and if we got a couple more stops. I think they really hurt us on the offensive glass. That might have been the key to the game tonight."

GOOD MOVE: The Pistons kept fighting after falling behind by 18 in the first half. In the second game of a four-game road trip, Detroit came out after halftime and made a game of it. The Pistons picked up their pace, shot 60.9 percent in the third quarter and scored 33 points. Calderon led the way, making all of his four attempts and Middleton sank two of his 3-pointers in the third quarter. Detroit wasn't able to win in Utah for the first time since the 2002-03 season after getting within five points in the fourth quarter, but it did leave with something to build on and gave a much better effort than it did against the Clippers on Sunday.

BAD MOVE: Detroit's offense was a mess at times against Utah, featuring poor shot selection and a lack of ball movement. The Pistons dished just 14 assists, while subpar shooting nights from Kyle Singler (1-for-6), Charlie Villanueva (1-for-7) and Will Bynum (0-for-5 in the second half, 4-for-11 overall) didn't help. It was understandable that Detroit's offense didn't flow well without Knight, the team's second-leading scorer, for most of the game.

NOTABLE: Utah's Paul Millsap did not play because of a bruised knee. It was the fourth game he's missed in the Jazz's last seven contests, but just the 15th game he's missed in six seasons. Detroit's Jason Maxiell did not dress for Monday's game because of a sprained right ankle. He had started in all of Detroit's games prior to facing the Jazz. The Pistons have lost 32 of their last 33 road games against Western Conference opponents.
