No NBA team has had a harder time containing its opponents than the Sacramento Kings.

The New Orleans Hornets are coming off a major defensive collapse of their own.

With both clubs looking to snap skids, the Kings try to avoid a 14th loss in 16 road matchups with the Hornets on Sunday.

Giving up an average of 104.2 points to rank last in the league, Sacramento (19-37) has surrendered 115.3 per game on 50.3 percent shooting while losing four straight. The Kings had no answer for Atlanta as they opened a five-game road trip with Friday's 122-108 defeat.

"Sometimes, when you're playing well offensively, you forget about the other side of the ball," coach Keith Smart told the league's official website. "We had every opportunity to win this game if we even gave half of a defensive effort. Age is not the issue anymore ... it's time for us to grow up and be a team."

Isaiah Thomas, averaging 20.5 points over his last six games, scored 30 to go along with nine assists and a season-high six rebounds. DeMarcus Cousins had 26 points and 13 boards as the Kings scored in triple digits for a sixth consecutive game.

"This is an offensive-minded team," Cousins said. "We're struggling in all aspects of the game. I do believe our offense carries our defense.

"We went away from what worked. We have a tendency to do that every game. I mean, if you haven't learned yet, you ain't trying to learn."

The Kings have been outscored by an average of 16.7 points during a season worst-tying seven-game road losing streak. They haven't lost eight straight in opponents' arenas since a 12-game skid in 2010-11.

Sacramento can't be feeling good about its chances Sunday considering it has gone 2-13 on the road against the Hornets since 2005.

New Orleans forward Ryan Anderson went 7 for 14 from 3-point range to finish with 27 points in a 114-105 home win over the Kings on Jan. 21. Greivis Vasquez added 19 and 11 assists.

The Hornets (19-37) are coming off their third straight defeat overall, 104-100 to Dallas on Friday. New Orleans went up by four with 56 seconds to go but was outscored 8-0 the rest of the way.

Eric Gordon scored just three of his 23 points in the second half and committed a costly turnover - his fourth of the game - with 5.8 seconds left.

"Any time you lose a game you feel bad, but any time you lose a game that way because of your mistakes, it's worse," said coach Monty Williams, whose team dropped to 2-25 when allowing 100 points or more. "It's one of those things where we have to look at film and figure out what is breaking down on our defense."

Jason Smith scored a season-high 22 points off the bench Friday while Anderson added 20 and 12 rebounds.

Anthony Davis recorded his third double-double in four games with 10 points and 11 boards before leaving in the third quarter due to a sprained right knee. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 draft, though, expects to play Sunday.

Davis will surely be looking to come out strong against Cousins, a fellow former Kentucky big man. Davis had 11 points and six boards in last month's matchup but sat out the second half due to injury. Cousins, meanwhile, posted 29 and 13.

Davis, Gordon lead Hornets past Kings 110-95

NEW ORLEANS (AP) New Orleans Hornets fans received a glimpse of the future while enjoying the present on Sunday night.

Anthony Davis and Eric Gordon, the franchise's marquee tandem, combined for 37 points to help the Hornets snap a three-game losing streak with a 110-95 victory over the Sacramento Kings.

Davis had 20 points and eight rebounds, while Gordon had 17 points and a season-high eight assists to help New Orleans get its first win since the All-Star break.

Ryan Anderson scored 17 points, Roger Mason 13, and Robin Lopez and Greivis Vasquez 12 each for New Orleans, which improved to 18-12 when holding its opponent to less than 100 points. Vasquez also had 13 assists.

"I had to be aggressive," said Davis, who was 9 of 14 from the field. "I was just being active, moving around. I had to stop settling for jump shots and start attacking the basket."

John Salmons scored all of his 18 points in the second half, and Jason Thompson, DeMarcus Cousins, and Isaiah Thomas added 16 each for the Kings, who lost their fifth consecutive game and eighth straight on the road.

Tyreke Evans and Marcus Thornton chipped in with 12 points apiece for Sacramento.

"I thought we played a great game up until about five minutes and 23 seconds," Sacramento coach Keith Smart said. "We just didn't manage that moment, that little pocket of the game."

The Hornets increased a 53-47 halftime lead to 73-60 late in the third quarter thanks in large part to a flurry of dunks. During a six-minute stretch of the quarter, 10 of the Hornets' 13 points came on dunks, including two by Davis and one each by Gordon, Lopez and Al-Farouq Aminu.

Sacramento closed to within a basket twice late in the quarter but six consecutive points by Vasquez gave the Hornets a 79-73 lead entering the final 12 minutes.

A 17-7 spurt to open the fourth broke it open for the Hornets, giving New Orleans a 96-83 lead with 6:05 remaining.

Jason Smith had four of his eight points during the surge.

"(Smith's) energy is something we've been riding all year along," Williams said. "He was in the paint all night long and knocked down a couple of jump shots. I feel he's an X factor for us."

New Orleans found little resistance in the lane, whether it was Davis or Lopez roaming uncontested or their teammates scurrying free off of a pick and roll. The Hornets outscored the Kings 62-44 in the paint, a season high for New Orleans.

The Kings scored 30 points in the lane in the first half but were held to 14 in the second.

"We knew we needed to match Sacramento's energy," Anderson said. "That's a team that really thrives on that. It fueled us getting those alley-oop dunks and getting those wide open shots."

Davis, who sat out most of the final two quarters Friday against Dallas with a knee injury, scored 12 points in the first half in leading the Hornets to a 53-47 lead at the break. Davis was 5 of 7 from the field, including a pair of highlight-reel dunks on fast breaks, one coming on a Gordon assist and the other on a nifty pass from Vasquez.

"Tonight you got a little taste of what (Davis) can do every night," Anderson said. "He's learning, still learning as a player how he can be most effective. Tonight this is the way he can play."

NOTES: Newly acquired C Cole Aldrich was not with the Kings on Sunday, Sacramento coach Keith Smart said before the game. Smart said Aldrich was in Sacramento for additional medical tests. Aldrich, along with Toney Douglas and Patrick Patterson were acquired in a trade with the Houston Rockets this past week in exchange for Thomas Robinson. Douglas and Patterson were with the team and Patterson scored 2 points. Douglas did not play.

THE FACTS: The New Orleans Hornets ended a three-game slide Sunday, breaking open a tight game in the fourth quarter to beat the Sacramento Kings 110-95.

The Hornets (20-37) saw their lead cut down to just two points late in the third quarter after Sacramento's John Salmons put up 15 points in the period.

But the Kings would get no closer thanks to New Orleans' bench, which outscored the Kings 29-22 in the fourth quarter.

New Orleans dominated the final 12 minutes, shooting 54.5 percent and outrebounding the Kings 14-6.

After the Hornets gave up a late lead in their Friday night loss to Dallas, it appeared the same was brewing Sunday. Sacramento's Isaiah Thomas scored two consecutive baskets, his 3-pointer cutting the Hornets' lead to 88-83 with eight minutes to play.

And then the Hornets took over. Beginning with a Roger Mason Jr. free throw, the New Orleans scored 12 of the next 14 points scored in the game.

While New Orleans didn't force but one turnover in the quarter, it held the Kings to 42.1 percent shooting and didn't turn the ball twice itself.

For Sacramento, the road doesn't get any easier. The Kings are in the midst of a five-game road swing in which they still have to face the reigning NBA champion Heat and current Western Conference leader San Antonio.

And they still have to find a way to work in newly-acquired players Patrick Patterson, Toney Douglas and Cole Aldrich, though the Aldrich has yet to pass his physical.

The Hornets closes out a three-game home stand on Tuesday against the Brooklyn, the only time the Nets will play in New Orleans this season.

QUOTABLE: "I think we get more excited when Ryan (Anderson) dunks than when I dunk. When Ryan got that dunk, everyone got crazy. We're not used to seeing him dunking."

THE STAT: 45-17 -- The difference Sunday for New Orleans was its outsized bench scoring. Led Ryan Anderson and his 17 points, the Hornets' reserves outscored Sacramento's by 28 points. While nearly every other stat was close, that one was not and the bench helped the Hornets get a win in spite of the Kings' starters' bevy of points.

TURNING POINT: When the Kings' Thomas sank a 3-pointer with 8:03 to go in the fourth quarter, cutting New Orleans' lead to 88-83, it appeared the Hornets would have a tough time closing out Sacramento. And then the Hornets took over. It started when Sacramento's Tyreke Evans was whistled for a technical foul. Mason hit the free throw and then Anderson hit a short jumper and the ensuing free throw. After an Evans miss, Jason Smith's jumper lengthened the lead to 94-83 and the rout was on.

QUOTABLE II: "John Salmons actually played a very good game and made some big timely 3's to get us back in the ball game. Then we had some turnovers, run-outs, the dunks. We just didn't manage that moment, that little pocket of the game -- six minutes, three minutes, two minutes."

HOT: New Orleans' trio of key reserves -- Mason Jr., Anderson and Smith keyed the Hornets' fourth-quarter 31-point explosion. They went a combined 11 of 14 for 33 points.

NOT: Sacramento's Jimmer Fredette has not come back strong from the All-Star break. Since games resumed, he is only 6-of-17 shooting, including a 1-for-4 performance against the Hornets on Sunday.

NOTABLE: The Hornets' Greivis Vasquez had his 22nd double-double, scoring 12 points while recording 13 assists. He remains No. 1 in that category for NBA guards. ... Salmons' 15 third-quarter points came on five 3-pointers. He has zero points through the first 24 minutes. ... New Orleans' Al-Farouq Aminu filled up his stat row with four points, eight rebounds, two assists, three steals and three blocked shots.
