The Houston Rockets are one of the highest-scoring teams in the NBA, and that's been particularly obvious over the past month.

The Rockets may have some new faces contributing to the offense as they try to continue their recent dominance of the Washington Wizards on Saturday night in the nation's capital.

Houston (31-26) averages 106.4 points, ranking behind only Oklahoma City's 106.7. The Rockets have been even better during the current 9-4 stretch, averaging 113.8 while shooting 50.0 percent overall and 41.1 percent from beyond the arc.

They flexed those scoring muscles against the Thunder on Wednesday, beating them 122-119 and following it up with a 106-96 victory at Brooklyn two days later. Houston hit 31 3s over those two games, six fewer than its total from the previous four contests.

"The past couple of weeks we've shown flashes, in my mind, of being a really, really, good team," said Jeremy Lin, who had nine points versus the Nets after getting 29 two days earlier.

It would seem the Rockets are at least in position for a three-game winning streak since they've won 13 of their last 15 meetings with the Wizards (16-37) and six of seven in Washington.

Houston took the latest matchup at home, winning 99-93 on Dec. 12 behind 31 points from James Harden.

The All-Star guard enters this matchup averaging 32.7 points on 57.0 percent shooting - 54.8 from 3-point range - over his past six games.

While Harden, among the league leaders with 26.4 points per game, will likely play a major role again, the Rockets may get a chance to introduce some new acquisitions.

They made a deal with Sacramento prior to Wednesday's trade deadline, but Thomas Robinson - the No. 5 pick in last year's draft - Francisco Garcia and Tyler Honeycutt weren't available Friday because Patrick Patterson, Toney Douglas and Cole Aldrich hadn't gotten their physicals with the Kings done in time.

Robinson is the most prominent addition, but he's averaging 4.8 points. The forward scored nine for Sacramento in a win at Washington on Jan. 28, when he was making his professional debut in his hometown. Garcia had 17 points in that game, his second-highest scoring effort of the season.

The Wizards are trying to win for the sixth time in eight tries after beating Denver 119-113 on Friday as six players scored in double figures.

Bradley Beal was one of them, finishing with 17 points and a season-high 12 rebounds while overcoming a hard fall on the court. That came a day after he spent 2 1/2 hours at the dentist to fix his two chipped front teeth - parts of which apparently became embedded in Cartier Martin's forehead.

"We were saying on the bench - he's having a rough rookie year," said Emeka Okafor, who had 17 points and 13 rebounds versus the Nuggets.

Beal, though, is doing just fine lately, averaging 20.0 points while sinking 9 of 19 from beyond the arc over the last four games. He led the way with 20 against Houston in December.

John Wall missed that game but has averaged 21.8 points over four career meetings with the Rockets, scoring a career-high 38 in the most recent matchup in Washington.

The Wizards also are expected to welcome a new addition in Jason Collins, acquired in a trade that sent Jordan Crawford to Boston on Wednesday.

Wizards fend off Rockets' 3s for 105-103 win

WASHINGTON (AP) The Rockets dominated early with an impressive 3-point shooting display and finished with more attempts than any NBA team this season. The Wizards countered by going big and going inside and it paid off when the former league laughingstock took down another winning team.

Bradley Beal scored 21 points and Emeka Okafor had 17 points, 11 rebounds and made the go-ahead free throw with 5.2 seconds remaining to help the Washington defeat Houston 105-103 on Saturday night.

Trevor Ariza added 18 points and John Wall had 12 points and 11 assists for the Wizards, who came back from a 17-point deficit for their second straight win. Washington, winner of 10 of its last 12 home games, scored 54 points in the paint to offset the 57 points Houston scored on 19 3-pointers.

James Harden scored 27 points and Chandler Parsons had 24 with five 3-pointers for the Rockets, who had won their first two games after the All-Star break. Houston attempted 46 3-pointers, the most in the NBA this season and three shy of the league record. The Rockets made 13 from beyond the arc in the first half, one off the NBA record they tied against Golden State on Feb. 5.

"We just wanted to make it tough, make them make contested shots," Wall said. "In the first half they weren't missing. Second half we kind of got into more defensively, changed some of our game plans up and just executed on the other half."

Initially, the Wizards used a smaller lineup to chase down Houston's 3-point threats. In the fourth quarter, they turned the tables by sticking with the interior combination of 6-foot-11 Nene and the 6-foot-10 Okafor.

Trailing 94-88 with 6:21 remaining, the Wizards scored seven straight points, taking the lead on Nene's layup, one of six lead changes in the final 4:58. Wall broke a 101-101 tie with two free throws with 1:13 remaining, but Harden's layup tied the score with 21.4 seconds left.

With Okafor being defended by the 6-foot-6 Carlos Delfino, the Wizards fed the center in the low post and he drew a foul.

"I thought that they would stay small," Wizards coach Randy Wittman said of his plan on the final possession.

After making his first free-throw attempt, Okafor missed the second, but Beal sneaked in for the rebound and was fouled with 1.9 seconds remaining. After Beal split his free throws, Harden's half-court attempt was blocked by Ariza.

"They went inside a little bit more," Rockets coach Kevin McHale said. "But really we had turnovers. We had empty possessions. ... We did not have a good second half."

The Wizards are 11-4 against teams with winning records since Jan. 7.

"We just step up to the challenge," said Wizards reserve Chris Singleton. "We executed the game plan the coaches came up with and down the stretch, we're not our old selves. You see us. We grew up."

Patrick Beverley scored a career-high 15 points with three 3-pointers and Delfino had four 3-pointers and scored 12 points for the Rockets.

McHale limited Jeremy Lin, who scored five points, to 26 minutes due to illness.

The Rockets hit from long range in the first quarter, sinking 8 of 14 3s for a 32-22 lead. Parsons made his three attempts and Harden added one during an 11-4 run to close the quarter.

Three more 3-pointers came during a 14-0 spurt as Harden's trey put Houston ahead 48-31.

The Rockets led 57-46 at halftime, but the Wizards fought back with a 19-6 run highlighted by seven points from Ariza and Wall's jump shot for a 73-72 lead with 3:14 remaining in the quarter. The Rockets regained the lead and entered the fourth quarter up 83-77. Houston missed seven of 10 3's in the fourth.

"We shoot a lot of 3s as a team, but I think we got a little 3 happy," McHale said. "We didn't get enough penetration and enough ball movement."

Wall and Okafor each posted double-doubles in Friday's 119-113 win over Denver.

Houston won the first meeting at home 99-93 on Dec. 12.

THE FACTS: Bradley Beal scored 21 points, Emeka Okafor had 17 points, 11 rebounds and the go-ahead free throw with 5.2 seconds remaining as the Washington Wizards overcame a torrent of 3-pointers by the Houston Rockets for a 105-103 victory.

Trevor Ariza had 18 points, and John Wall had 12 points and 11 assists for the Wizards (17-37), who trailed by 17 points in the first half, but rallied behind their interior muscle.

THE STAT: While the Rockets scored 57 points from beyond the arc, the Wizards tallied 54 in the paint, shooting 63.6 percent from the floor in the second half. Washington's starting frontcourt of Okafor, Nene and Martell Webster (12 points) finished a combined 16 of 32 overall.

HOT: Ariza, who also took on the role of guarding the All-Star Harden in the fourth quarter, scored 13 of his 18 points in the second half, making 6-of-8 shots. The Wizards small forward also doled out a season-high six assists.

NOT: Jeremy Lin missed seven of nine shots and finished with five points in 26 minutes. McHale said he attempted to limit the point guard's playing time because he was under the weather.

GOOD MOVE: With the Rockets using a small-ball lineup filled with shooters, the Wizards initially tried matching with comparable sized players. In the second half, Wizards coach Randy Wittman stayed with his big men - Okafor and Nene. With the game tied in the waning seconds, Washington looked inside for the 6-foot-10 Okafor, who had a four-inch height advantage over Carlos Delfino. The double-team came, but the Wizards' center drew the foul.

NOTABLE: Rockets guard Patrick Beverley made three 3-pointers and scored a career-high 15 points. Delfino sank four from beyond the arc and had 12 points. ...Veteran center Jason Collins, acquired by the Wizards on Thursday in a trade deadline for Jordan Crawford, joined the team but was inactive for the game. ...Though Thomas Robinson, Francisco Garcia and Tyler Honeycutt were acquired from the Kings on Tuesday, the trio has not been cleared to play for the Rockets.
