The All-Star break may not be coming soon enough for No. 1 overall pick Anthony Davis, who has shown signs of hitting "the wall."

Davis and the New Orleans Hornets try to wrap up a three-game road swing with a winning mark Monday night when they play the Detroit Pistons.

While Davis - averaging 12.8 points, 7.4 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 37 games - was selected to participate in the Rising Stars Challenge during All-Star weekend, the 19-year-old has slowed of late by averaging 6.0 points and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 37.5 percent in his last three games.

He had a season-low two points on 1-of-6 shooting in 19-plus minutes Sunday when the Hornets (17-34) were denied a third straight victory in their 102-89 defeat at Toronto. Robin Lopez had 19 points for New Orleans, which allowed Toronto to shoot 51.3 percent and score 50 points in the paint.

"AD just didn't have it for whatever reason," Hornets coach Monty Williams said. "Guys are coming after him and he's got to accept the challenge."

Davis has totaled 10 points on 5-for-17 shooting in the first two legs of this trip and failed to get to the foul line in either game. The forward, though, has shown some resiliency on the back end of consecutive nights, averaging 13.7 points and 7.4 rebounds on 51.0 percent shooting in nine such occasions.

He'll face a formidable low-post tandem at Detroit, where Jason Maxiell and Greg Monroe will offer the most resistance for the Pistons (20-32), who have made adjustments to win both their games since rookie forward Andre Drummond suffered a small fracture in his lower back.

The ninth overall pick had averaged 7.3 points and 7.5 rebounds off the bench in 50 games before the injury, but Monroe has been playing some of his best basketball of the season and enters this game with a career-high six straight double-doubles. The Pistons pivot had 14 points and 13 rebounds on Saturday in a 105-100 victory at Milwaukee, and Charlie Villanueva has proven a capable replacement for Drummond, hitting a tiebreaking 3-pointer late against the Bucks and totaling 39 points and 21 rebounds in the last two games.

"As a team, we definitely did a good job of staying poised," said Monroe, who has averaged 19.0 points and 12.8 rebounds while shooting 54.0 percent during his six-game surge. "Obviously, Charlie hit a big shot, but we got some stops late."

Detroit hasn't won three straight since its season-high four-game run from Dec. 28-Jan. 4, with all the victories coming at home. The Pistons have won their last seven games when scoring at least 100 points and have dropped their last nine when failing to reach the century mark.

Monroe had 24 points and 16 rebounds in the only meeting between the teams last season, an 89-87 Pistons victory at home. Detroit has won its last three home games over the Hornets by a combined 11 points, with the two victories before the 2011-12 season coming in overtime.

Anderson, Lopez lead Hornets past Pistons, 105-86

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) Three minutes into the game, Monty Williams thought his New Orleans Hornets were in major trouble.

Playing their second road game in two nights, the Hornets looked completely lost against the Pistons. They turned the ball over twice in their first three possessions and quickly trailed 8-0.

Williams called a quick timeout, but chose not to berate his players.

"There are a lot of times that I'm going to jump on the guys when they play like that, but I didn't think this was the time for yelling and screaming," Williams said. "I just wanted to settle everyone down and get us playing basketball."

The strategy worked. New Orleans scored the next eight points and ended up cruising to a 105-86 victory Monday night.

"I was concerned, because after we lost last night, we had really focused on being the aggressors tonight," said Robin Lopez, who finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds. "The important thing was that we bounced right back and took control of the game. Scoring the next eight points showed that we weren't going to play another game like we did last night in Toronto."

The Hornets, coming off a 102-89 loss at Toronto on Sunday for their fifth defeat in seven games, were in control for the final 40 minutes against Detroit.

Wearing their purple, green and gold Mardi Gras jerseys, New Orleans finished with 10 blocks to just three for the Pistons and dominated the paint on both ends of the floor. The New Orleans starting frontcourt - Lopez, Anthony Davis and Al-Farouq Aminu - combined for 36 points, 32 rebounds and eight blocks.

"Robin, A.D. and Al-Farouq are all really long, so they can give teams a lot of trouble inside," Williams said. "Robin was matched up against Greg Monroe, who is a stud, but he was able to do a great job against him and still help A.D. out against Jason Maxiell. Al-Farouq had a couple blocks on the fast break where he looked a lot like LeBron."

Ryan Anderson did the rest of the damage for New Orleans, coming off the bench with 31 points. Anderson hit five 3-pointers, but Williams was more impressed by his ability to do other things.

"Ryan's not just a shooter, despite what people think," he said. "There was a play tonight where he pump-faked the defender and then went to the rim and dunked. I don't think anyone in the building expected him to dunk that one."

In their last five games, the Pistons had beaten the Spurs and Bucks and lost close games to the Lakers and the Nets, but they were no match for the 18-34 Hornets on Monday. Playing without rookie center Andre Drummond (back), the Pistons had no answer for New Orleans inside.

"Other than that initial spurt - 8-0 - our defense was horrible," Pistons coach Lawrence Frank said. "You have to give them most of the credit for that. They played much harder than us, much tougher, more physical, more intense. Outside of a few select segments, they really, really outworked us. It's very, very disappointing."

Reserve Rodney Stuckey led Detroit with 19, but most came after the game had been decided, while Greg Monroe added 17 points and 11 rebounds.

"They wanted to win more than we did," Monroe said. "We started out great, but after that timeout, they took control. I don't think it was our mistakes, but good reads on their part. They just outplayed us. It was tough."

The Hornets were already ahead by the end of the first quarter, thanks to 13 points from Lopez, and were able to pull out to a double-digit lead when the Pistons missed 10 straight shots in the second period. Anderson had 15 off the bench, including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the end of the second that gave the Hornets a 55-41 halftime lead.

New Orleans led by as many as 20 points in the third quarter, as Detroit struggled to even get decent shots in its half-court offense. The Hornets only shot 35 percent in the period, but that was enough to move the margin to 16 going into the fourth. Frank went outside his rotation in the fourth, playing little-used Kim English and Jonas Jerebko in an effort to kick-start a comeback, but the Hornets were never threatened.

The Hornets led comfortably enough that they were able to take an intentional shot-clock violation in the final seconds of the game.

"We wanted to finish this road trip well, and I think we showed some growth in our team," Aminu said. "There are things you have to do on the road that you don't normally have to do at home, and we did all those little things tonight."

NOTES: Frank picked up a technical foul for arguing a basket-interference in the first quarter. ... Despite decent weather, the game drew one of the smallest crowds in Palace history. The attendance was announced at 10,177, and several upper-deck sections were entirely empty as fans were encouraged to move to the lower bowl. ... Jesse Jackson sat courtside across from the Pistons bench. ... Eric Gordon sat out to rest his knee on the second night of New Orleans' back-to-back games.

THE FACTS: Sixth man Ryan Anderson had 31 points, three shy of his career high, to lead the New Orleans Hornets to a 105-86 victory over the Detroit Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills on Monday. Center Robin Lopez supplied 23 points and 10 rebounds for New Orleans, which had lost seven of its last 10. Al-Farouq Aminu added 12 points and 14 rebounds. Rodney Stuckey's 19 points led Detroit, which had won its last two games, and Greg Monroe had 17 points and 11 rebounds for his seventh straight double-double.

QUOTABLE: "Ryan is such an integral part of our team. When we really need a bucket, he's got such great touch and great instincts. He's a really smart player and makes it a lot easier on us."

THE STAT: 10. The Hornets blocked 10 shots and their ability to seal off the lane disrupted Detroit's offense. The Hornets had a 48-44 edge in paint points and held the Pistons to 35.8 percent shooting, their worst outing since they shot 34.1 percent at Dallas on Dec. 1.

TURNING POINT: The Hornets finished the first half on a 14-5 run to take a 55-41 halftime lead. Lopez had two inside baskets and a block during that stretch and Anderson finished it off with a pair of 3-pointers. The Pistons never got closer than 12 in the second half.

QUOTABLE II: "The way he played in the paint defensively was tremendous. Greg Monroe is a stud and (Jason) Maxiell is so physical, and he was helping AD (Anthony Davis) out a lot. Then offensively, he was able to dive and finish around the basket. His ability to dive got so many guys open shots."

HOT: Lopez has double-doubles in a career-best eight straight games. He shot 64.3 percent from the field in the first seven games of the streak and continued the hot hand by going 9 of 13 from the field on Monday.

NOT: Detroit's trio of Brandon Knight, Charlie Villanueva and Will Bynum had nightmarish outings offensively. Knight was held to seven points and made three turnovers. Villanueva, who made a game-winning 3-pointer against Milwaukee on Saturday, went 2 for 7 from the field and scored just five points in 20 minutes. Bynum, the team's sparkplug backup point guard, missed all eight of his field-goal attempts.

ROOKIE WATCH: A matchup between last year's top pick, Davis, and Pistons rookie center Andre Drummond fell through last week when Drummond was declared out for 4-6 weeks because of a stress fracture to his fifth lumbar vertebra. Davis had his fourth straight single-digit game with one point on 0-for-7 shooting but made four of the Hornets' 10 blocks. New Orleans guard Austin Rivers had seven points while Detroit forward Kyle Singer contributed 14 points and five rebounds.

NOTABLE: Monroe's double-double streak is the longest by a Piston since Ben Wallace recorded seven straight in February 2003. ...Hornets guard Eric Gordon sat out on the second game of a back-to-back to protect his oft-injured right knee. ... The Pistons rank fifth in rebounds per game (43.8) after finishing 27th last season at 40.3 but they were outrebounded 49-41 by New Orleans. ... Monroe has 20 20-point, 10-rebound games since the 2011-12 season. Only three Eastern Conference players have more -- LeBron James, Dwight Howard (formerly of the Orlando Magic) and Josh Smith. ...Corey Maggette, the Pistons' highest-paid player, is healthy but hasn't appeared in a game since Dec. 15. ... Hornets point guard Greivis Vasquez added nine points and 13 assists. ... New Orleans has used seven lineups this season, compared to 27 during the lockout-shortened season a year ago.
