The Los Angeles Clippers are struggling without Chris Paul, and they're still not sure when he's coming back.

That may not matter against the lowly Washington Wizards.

The Clippers attempt to begin reversing a sluggish stretch without their All-Star point guard by continuing their dominance of the Wizards on Monday night.

Los Angeles (34-15) has dropped six of eight, and five of those defeats have come in the seven consecutive games without Paul, who is hampered by a bruised right kneecap. Overall, the injury has sidelined him for 10 of the past 12 games, and there's no timetable for his return.

The Clippers are 1-2 to begin this eight-game road trip after committing 21 turnovers in a 106-104 loss at Boston on Sunday.

"We're just a little out of rhythm," said forward Matt Barnes, who missed all six of his shots and failed to score. "Guys are just playing a little out of position, but that's no excuse."

Los Angeles hasn't needed any excuses when facing the Wizards lately. The Clippers have put up 108.0 points per game while winning eight straight in the series, including three consecutive wins at Washington by an average of 20.3 points.

Paul was a major reason that dominance continued Jan. 19, posting 22 points and 11 assists in a 94-87 home victory.

Blake Griffin turned in one of his worst shooting performances of the season in that game, needing to hit 7 of 10 free throws to get to 17 points since he was just 5 of 18 from the floor. Still, the All-Star forward is averaging 24.0 points and 11.8 rebounds in five career meetings with the Wizards.

Washington (11-35) is tied with Charlotte for the worst record in the NBA, and is struggling again even with John Wall back in the lineup.

The Wizards won six of their first nine after Wall returned from a stress injury to his left kneecap, but they've since dropped four in a row. They scored a season-low 26 points in the first half Saturday, and their comeback attempt fell short in a 96-86 loss at San Antonio.

"That's the way we gotta play throughout the whole game," Wall said. "We're not a team that can just turn it on in the second half. Everyone felt embarrassed to only have 26 points in a half."

The second quarter has been particularly troubling for Washington over the past three games, with a combined 30 points on 19.7 percent shooting - 0 for 15 from 3-point range.

Wall is trying to find some consistency himself after scoring 21 points - but needing 22 field-goal attempts to do so - against the Spurs. He's averaging 13.4 points over eight games since scoring a season-high 24 off the bench against the Clippers last month.

He has 22.6 points per game over five career meetings with Los Angeles.

Jordan Crawford managed only three points while making 1 of 5 from the floor in the latest matchup with the Clippers, and he's had a tough time scoring of late. Averaging 13.8 points on the season, he's totaled 21 during the Wizards' four-game skid while shooting 29.6 percent.

Without Griffin, Clippers fall 98-90 to Wizards

WASHINGTON (AP) The Los Angeles Clippers were missing Blake Griffin and Chris Paul. The Washington Wizards won the game.

Tread carefully around Randy Wittman when trying to connect those two thoughts.

"Hey, listen, we played enough games this year without players," the Wizards coach said. "Don't give me the (bull) about who was here and who wasn't here. ... You guys would have printed it a wholly different other way if we had lost. ... Now you're going to print, `Ah, you won because Blake didn't play.' Give me a break."

To be fair, the outburst was more playful than angry, but the point is well-taken. The Wizards will happily take Monday night's 98-90 win - or any victory for that matter - in a season that was essentially wrecked from the get-go in part because of injuries to John Wall and Nene.

Now it's the Clippers who are close to falling off the rails, having lost seven of nine - including six of eight without Paul. Los Angeles is 1-3 halfway through an eight-game road trip and has fallen 4 1/2 games off the Western Conference lead.

"It's frustrating because we're giving back a lot of what we had built up earlier in the season," Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said. "But you can't control the injuries, you can't control the schedule, you can't control so many guys being out."

Paul missed his eighth consecutive game and 11th of the last 13 with a bruised right kneecap, while Griffin's streak of 197 consecutive games played ended when he was a last-minute scratch with a strained left hamstring.

"We were walking out (to the court) and he was walking in," Del Negro said.

Del Negro said he knew the hamstring had been bothering Griffin, who leads the Clippers in scoring and rebounding with 18.5 points and 8.6 boards per game. The coach declined to speculate when Griffin would return. The road trip continues against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday.

"We'll see how he feels tomorrow," Del Negro said.

Griffin had started every game since he essentially became an NBA player at the start of the 2010 season, having sat out in 2009-10 with a knee injury after he was drafted No. 1 overall by the Clippers.

Nevertheless, his teammates were in the game until a spate of turnovers and a pair of offensive rebounds by Wizards forward Nene spurred a 7-0 run by Washington late in the fourth quarter.

"When you're a championship-level team, you have high expectations," said Jamal Crawford, who scored 28 points to lead the Clippers. "And we do, no matter who's in and who's out. Obviously we're missing some of our better players, but no excuse."

Martell Webster scored 21 points, Nene and Garrett Temple had 15 points apiece, Emeka Okafor grabbed 14 rebounds, and Wall had 13 points and eight assists for the Wizards, who broke a four-game losing streak and moved a game ahead of the league-worst Charlotte Bobcats.

DeAndre Jordan had a career-high 22 rebounds for the Clippers. Eric Bledsoe, going toe-to-toe with Wall in a duel between former Kentucky teammates, had 17 points and nine assists.

The game turned when Nene grabbed a high-bouncing rebound off of his own missed free throw to set up a 3-pointer by Trevor Ariza, then corralled another offensive board on the next possession and fed Temple for a jump shot that gave the Wizards an 87-79 lead with 3:53 remaining.

Still, the finish was too close for comfort for Wittman, especially after the Wizards had scored 51 points in the first half.

"It wasn't all artistic for us," Wittman said. "We still had ups and downs from an offensive standpoint. ... We seem to forget how we scored the 51. If my forehead's red, (it's from) banging the wall."

Notes: The Clippers committed eight of their 20 turnovers in the fourth quarter. ... Griffin's consecutive games streak was tied for second with Houston Rockets center Omer Asik among active players. Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook played in his 360th straight game Monday night. ... The Wizards snapped an eight-game losing streak against the Clippers. ... Washington played its fourth consecutive game without rookie G Bradley Beal (sprained right wrist). ... Del Negro said he hopes to have both Paul and Chauncey Billups (left foot) back before the end of the road trip. He said Billups is on pace to return before Paul. "That's the plan right now," Del Negro said. "But a lot of the plans haven't worked out the way we wanted with some of the injuries."

THE FACTS: Martell Webster scored 21 points and drained five 3-pointers as the Washington Wizards snapped a four-game losing with a 98-90 win over the Chris Paul- and Blake Griffin-less Los Angeles Clippers Monday night.

While Paul missed his eighth straight game with a bruised right kneecap, Griffin's absence due to a strained left hamstring was surprising and truly a last minute call. Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro did not learn of his All-Star forward's unavailability until moments before Los Angeles headed to the court for the opening tip.

Nene and Garrett Temple each scored 15 points, and John Wall had 13 points and eight assists for the Wizards (12-35), who let all of a 10-point third quarter lead slip away. Aided by Clippers' turnovers, Washington took command with an 11-2 run late in the fourth quarter for a 91-81 lead.

Jamal Crawford scored 28 points, Eric Bledsoe had 17 and Caron Butler 15 for the Clippers (34-16), who have lost three straight and seven of nine. Center DeAndre Jordan grabbed a career-high 22 rebounds.

THE STAT: The Clippers committed eight of their 20 turnovers in the fourth quarter, which the Wizards turned into 14 points. After a Bledsoe mistake, Wall stuck a jumper and then moments later added a slam dunk, putting Washington ahead 91-81 with 2:27 left.

QUOTABLE II: " This is the first time we beat them since I was here. We just made plays down the stretch, got a comfortable lead, got a couple of stops and closed it out."

HOT: Webster drained five of six shots from beyond the 3-point arc and the Wizards finished 7-for-12 from long range. Washington's top 3-point percentage shooter, Webster has made 8-for-11 over the last two games and has scored in double figures in seven of the last nine games.

NOT: The Clippers' 3-point shooters went 4-for-17 (23.5 percent) from that distance. Facing his old team, Butler missed five of six attempts.

GOOD MOVE: During Bradley Beal's four-game absence with a sprained right wrist, Wittman has started Temple, who was recalled from the D-League on Christmas Day. Noted for his defense, the 6-foot-6 guard started the game with 10 points in the first quarter and he made 7-for-12 shots overall. While Temple played 37 minutes, fellow guard and Washington's second-leading scorer Jordan Crawford played only five and none in the second half.

NOTABLE: The Wizards now have wins over four division leaders: the Clippers, Thunder, Bulls and Heat. Another opportunity for a contender's scalp comes Wednesday against the Knicks. ...The only Washington starter not to score in double figures, Emeka Okafor finished with nine points and 14 rebounds. . ...Lamar Odom started in place of Griffin and had three points and nine rebounds before fouling out. ... Jordan grabbed half of the Clippers' 44 rebounds. The Wizards also had 44 rebounds, but a 13-9 edge on the offensive glass which they turned into 21 second-chance points.
