The Boston Celtics' recent roller-coaster ride of results has taken another downward dip. That's the same trend they've been on against the Detroit Pistons lately.

The streaky Celtics look to get back on track Sunday night when they visit a Detroit team playing for the first time since its trip to London.

After losing four straight Dec. 27-Jan. 2, Boston won six in a row. The Celtics (20-19), however, have since suffered back-to-back losses at home - the latest coming when Marco Belinelli made an off-balance fadeaway with 3.1 seconds left to give Chicago a 100-99 overtime victory Friday.

"I didn't think we played very well," coach Doc Rivers said. "I didn't think we played very smart. We hung in there, which is a good sign."

Boston will try for its third straight road victory Sunday, but recent history suggests it won't come easy. The Pistons (14-25) have won three in a row at home against the Celtics by an average of 15.7 points, and they've taken three in a row in the series overall.

Greg Monroe, Detroit's leader with 15.4 points per game, has played a big role in that. He's averaged 20.3 points and 10.3 rebounds while shooting 64.3 percent in the last four against Boston, scoring 20 and grabbing 13 boards as the Pistons took the latest meeting 103-83 at home Nov. 18.

Guard Rodney Stuckey, who's totaled 22 points in his last three games, has scored 18.3 per contest in his past three against the Celtics.

The Pistons have also been very inconsistent recently, dropping three of four since a 6-1 stretch that followed a six-game losing streak. They'll be looking to avoid their third straight home defeat while trying to shake off a 102-87 rout by New York in London on Thursday.

"We came here to play a competition ... on an international stage, which is a privilege and an honor to be selected, so it's disappointing that we came up short and didn't play our best," coach Lawrence Frank said.

Detroit will try to regain its shooting touch, having made 32.3 percent from 3-point range and 61.1 percent from the free-throw line in the past five games.

That may not be easy to do against Boston, which has limited opponents to 26.1 percent from beyond the arc in its latest five contests.

Rajon Rondo will look to carry over the momentum from a season-high 30-point performance against the Bulls. The point guard had a career-high 35 points in a 98-88 loss to the Pistons on Feb. 15, but he's totaled 17 points in the last two meetings and had six turnovers both times despite also recording 10 assists in those two games.

Boston needs stars Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to get their shooting back on track. Pierce has made 32.7 from the floor in the last three games, while Garnett has shot 31.3 or below in two of those three contests.

The Celtics have averaged 88.7 points in that stretch. They've scored 84.0 per contest during their three-game skid versus the Pistons.

Boston guard Avery Bradley is doubtful to play Sunday after missing Friday's game because of a rib injury.

Pistons rout Celtics 103-88 after London trip

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) Lawrence Frank made it clear before the game that his Detroit Pistons couldn't afford to lean on any built-in excuses after returning from overseas.

Jet lag, a break in routine and a tough Boston opponent? Frank's team overcame all of it.

"We bent, and we didn't break," the Detroit coach said.

Rookie Andre Drummond had 16 points and seven rebounds, and the Pistons routed the Celtics 103-88 on Sunday night after returning from Europe. Detroit lost to the New York Knicks in London on Thursday, but didn't look particularly weary in its first game back. The Pistons blew an 18-point second-quarter lead before pulling away again in the second half.

Boston never led.

"We are playing awful and I am clearly not doing my job for this team and I am serious," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "I am not trying to take a bullet for the team and I told them that. I said we have to find something where all 12 guys play the same way."

Boston has lost three straight to drop to 20-20 on the season.

Drummond went 5 of 6 from the field, repeatedly slipping free for dunks. He also made 6 of 8 free throws after entering the game shooting 39 percent from the line. That foiled Boston's short-lived strategy of fouling to put him on the line.

"I was really proud of Andre, the way he responded when they resort to hack-a-Drummond," Frank said. "You know you're in the league when they do that."

Kevin Garnett scored 16 points for Boston, and Rajon Rondo had eight points, 15 assists, nine rebounds and nine turnovers.

The Celtics wiped out an 18-point second-quarter deficit before the first half even ended, but Detroit led 52-48 after scoring the last four points before the break. It was a one-point game in the third before Brandon Knight and Tayshaun Prince made 3-pointers for the Pistons to make it 61-54.

Detroit led 70-58 before an 8-0 run by Boston. Drummond snapped that with a one-handed dunk on an alley-oop from fellow big man Greg Monroe. It was 81-71 after three.

Drummond's dunk on an alley-oop from Will Bynum made it 89-73.

"I just always move myself into the right areas," Drummond said. "Try to get behind the defense. For the most part, we all click as a team."

Monroe, Knight and Bynum scored 15 points apiece for Detroit. Courtney Lee had 16 for Boston, and Jeff Green added 15.

Celtics guard Avery Bradley was back after missing a game with a rib injury, but he scored only six points.

"I had double pads on just in case I got hit while I was in the game," Bradley said. "I just have to fight through it."

The Pistons arrived back from overseas around midday Friday.

"If we're going to search for excuses, they'll always be there," Frank said before Sunday's game.

But Detroit looked fine from the start. The Pistons scored the game's first seven points and then went on a 9-0 run at the beginning of the second quarter to take a 36-18 lead.

"Just getting back in the gym after getting back from London and getting that jet lag out of there and get some shots up - we got some great workouts in," Knight said.

Boston responded after falling behind by 18, scoring the game's next 10 points, including a steal and dunk by Paul Pierce and two 3-pointers by Lee. Twice, the Pistons turned the ball over near their own free throw line after defensive rebounds, leading to easy baskets for the Celtics.

Boston finally tied it at 48.

NOTES: The Celtics have lost four straight to Detroit. ... The Pistons had 21 turnovers and Boston had 18. ... Monroe, Knight, Bynum and Kyle Singler had five assists apiece for Detroit.

THE FACTS: Rookie center Andre Drummond had 16 points to lead a balanced attack as the Detroit Pistons defeated the Boston Celtics 103-88 at The Palace of Auburn Hills on Sunday. Brandon Knight, Greg Monroe and Will Bynum scored 15 apiece for the Pistons (15-25), who had six players in double figures while ending a two-game slide. Kevin Garnett and Courtney Lee paced the Celtics (20-20), who lost their third straight, with 16 points each. Detroit never trailed while leading by as much as 19.

QUOTABLE: "They're our backbone and when they get it going, everybody gets it going. Brandon [Knight] came out and gave us great energy and we fed off him."

THE STAT: 4. The Pistons have struggled to beat a lot of teams, but they have the Celtics' number. They have beaten Boston four consecutive times over the last two seasons by an average of 15 points. All four of those wins were by double digits. The Pistons clinched this year's three-game season series with Sunday's victory. They will play once more in Boston on April 3.

TURNING POINT: Boston closed within 55-54 early in the third quarter but the Pistons responded with a 15-4 run to create some distance. Knight and Tayshaun Prince started it off with 3-pointers. Prince and Monroe added dunks during the outburst and Jason Maxiell finished it with two free throws. Boston never got closer than four points the rest of the way.

QUOTABLE II: "I don't think we have the commitment to be a good basketball team. This team wants everything easy, they want the easy way out. They want to win easy, but the only way you're going to win easy is you're going to have to play hard. We're taking the wrong approach. I've either got to find the right combination, the right guys, or we're going to have to get some guys out of here."

HOT: Bynum continues to give the Pistons strong performances off the bench. He is averaging 16.7 points over the last three games. He also provided a steadying influence for a team that committed 21 turnovers. He made just one in 21 minutes while contributing five assists.

NOT: Boston guard Rajon Rondo scored a season-high 30 points against Chicago on Friday but endured one of his worst performances this season despite making 15 assists. He scored just eight points on 4-for-16 shooting and made nine turnovers, half of Boston's 18 giveaways. He also failed to get to the freethrow line.

ROOKIE WATCH: Drummond added seven rebounds while making a strong push for the All-Rookie First Team. Detroit guard Kyle Singler also shined with 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. Boston's Jared Sullinger had seven points and seven rebounds.

NOTABLE: The teams combined for 39 turnovers. ... Detroit had a 50-42 rebounding advantage as Monroe recorded his 16th double-double. .... Garnett appeared in his 1,295th career game. He will tie Mark Jackson for 13th place on the NBA games played list with his next appearance. .... Drummond has 65 blocks, the third-most by a rookie in franchise history. John Salley (1986-87) holds the record with 125. ... The Celtics have employed 11 different lineups this season, while the Pistons have used just two. .... Avery Bradley, Boston's starting shooting guard, was a game-time decision because of a rib injury. He managed six points in 19 minutes.
