Bucks-Pistons Preview

The Milwaukee Bucks earned one of their most noteworthy victories of the season in their latest game, but it wasn't enough to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The eliminated Bucks now turn their focus toward ending a difficult campaign on a positive note, beginning Friday night against the Detroit Pistons.

Milwaukee (32-46) outscored Miami 25-15 in the first quarter and held the Southeast Division champions to 40.5 percent shooting in a 90-85 road victory Wednesday. The Bucks, though, were officially ousted from playoff contention during that game with Indiana's win over Washington.

"You don't want to take anything away from (the win over Miami)," coach Scott Skiles said. "The reality is that we got eliminated."

The Bucks, who ended a three-year playoff drought last season, were done in by a 12-27 road record but have split their last six games away from home.

They continue to play good defense, holding four straight opponents this month under 90 points and the last three to a combined 39.9 percent shooting.

Skiles surely hopes his team, which has alternated wins and losses in its last five games, fares better after its elimination than Detroit (27-51) did.

The Pistons suffered back-to-back losses after a 101-96 defeat to Chicago on April 1 officially ended their postseason hopes. However, they snapped a four-game skid with a 116-109 win over New Jersey on Wednesday, just their second victory in nine games.

Rodney Stuckey had 22 points and 10 assists after being benched for two games. He didn't start but played all of the second half and had 14 points in the fourth quarter.

"I'm still a young player," the 24-year-old Stuckey said. "I'm really passionate about this game. I let my emotions get in the way, I got punished, and it's over."

Richard Hamilton, who clashed with coach John Kuester earlier this season, led the way with 25 points and helped his team overcome another lackluster defensive performance. Detroit has given up at least 100 points in five straight games and 20 of 27.

"(Hamilton has) been playing so hard, and it's amazing what you can accomplish when your heart's in the right place," Kuester said.

Stuckey has averaged 18.6 points - 5.2 above his career mark - in his last five games against the Pistons.

He scored 25 in the teams' most recent meeting, but the Bucks beat them for the first time in three tries this season with a 92-90 victory behind Brandon Jennings' 21 points.

Jennings has failed to score in double figures in each of the past two games after averaging 22.3 points over his previous six.

Detroit has won five of seven at home.

Wilcox leads Pistons to 110-100 win over Bucks

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) Even though the new boss wasn't in attendance, the Detroit Pistons did their best to make a good first impression.

Chris Wilcox had a season-high 27 points and 13 rebounds to help Detroit beat the Milwaukee Bucks 110-100 on Friday night.

Rodney Stuckey added 22 for the Pistons, including four straight free throws in the final minutes to help Detroit win its second straight.

The victory, hours after players and coaches learned the team will be sold to billionaire California investor Tom Gores, guaranteed the Pistons a winning home record.

Wilcox, plagued with injuries for much of the season, scored 19 points in the second half and grabbed five of the team's 15 offensive rebounds.

"We don't run a lot of plays for our bigs right now," Detroit coach John Kuester said. "He did a good job getting second-chance opportunities."

The soon-to-be free agent ended the night in double figures for the third straight game.

"I've started to feel a little better and things are working out for me," Wilcox said. "Guys have recognized that and they're getting me the ball."

Detroit led 55-51 at halftime and went on an 11-2 run early in the third quarter to push the advantage to double digits. Milwaukee trailed 84-74 at the start of the final period and trimmed the lead to 100-96 with less than 3 minutes to play.

That's when Stuckey answered with his free throws, and the Bucks never threatened again. The guard, benched earlier in the week, scored eight points in the fourth quarter.

"Rodney Stuckey had an outstanding game," Kuester said. "He really did a good job controlling the tempo, getting fouled, taking the ball to the basket."

Brandon Jennings had 31 points for the Bucks, but only four in the final period.

"Our defense wasn't as good as a team tonight," the guard said. "We kind of let them get easy buckets and we really weren't rotating like we usually do and they were able to counter it."

Ersan Ilyasova, who missed the last 21 games with concussion symptoms, scored 18 in his first outing since Feb. 23 for Milwaukee.

Tayshaun Prince finished with 16 points and reserve Charlie Villanueva added 15 to help the Pistons win their 28th game, one more than last season's total.

Pistons owner Karen Davidson announced the tentative sale of the franchise to Gores Friday afternoon. Her husband, Bill, bought the team in 1974 and built the Palace of Auburn Hills, which opened in 1988. His widow announced after his death in 2009 that she was seeking a buyer.

The two sides had been in negotiations for several months. Pistons president Alan Ostfield said he was unsure when the NBA would vote to approve the sale.

Notes: The sale agreement also includes the arena and two nearby outdoor entertainment venues. ... The Bucks announced earlier Friday that C Andrew Bogut will miss the rest of the season because of pain in his right elbow. He will undergo arthroscopic surgery to remove loose particles and scar tissue there. ... Detroit guard Will Bynum (right knee strain) and center Ben Wallace (right knee) each missed their second straight game.

THE FACTS: Center Chris Wilcox scored a season-high 27 points as the Detroit Pistons defeated the Milwaukee Bucks Friday night, 110-100. Reserve guard Rodney Stuckey added 22 points for the Pistons, who won their second straight. Guard Brandon Jennings led the Bucks with 31 points.

QUOTABLE: "We've got a couple of games left and I just want to finish up strong. I knew after the All-Star break I had to come out and be aggressive and help my team win a couple more games. It's been tough for us but we just kept playing hard and guys are starting to recognize me and starting to feed me more."

THE STAT: 54-0. Milwaukee center Andrew Bogut was declared out for the remainder of the season prior to the game with lingering pain in his surgically-repaired right elbow. Without him, the Bucks' starting frontcourt was punchless. The trio of Jon Brockman, Luc Mbah a Moute and Carlos Delfino failed to score, missing a combined 12 field-goal attempts, while their counterparts combined for 54 points, led by Wilcox's 27.

TURNING POINT: Leading by two early in the third quarter, the Pistons stretched out their advantage with a 17-5 run. Wilcox had nine of those points while Richard Hamilton got it started with a 20-foot jumper and also fed Tayshaun Prince for an alley-oop dunk. That made it 72-58 and Milwaukee never got closer than four again.

QUOTABLE II: "That's what the fans want and that's what we want, to prove to people that we should have been at the 8 or 7 spot (in the Eastern Conference playoffs). It's impossible this year but hopefully next year, that will happen."

HOT: Wilcox had his highest-scoring game since March 9, 2008, when he scored 28 for Seattle against Toronto. He made 12 of 18 field goals and also grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds. Wilcox has reached double figures in nine of the last 13 games.

NOT: Hamilton shot just 2 of 10 from the field and made three turnovers, though he did aid Detroit's cause with his playmaking. He had a team-high six assists.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: Jennings bounced back from a pair of single-digit performances at Miami and Orlando, carrying the Bucks' offense. He reached the 30-point mark for the fourth time this season. Milwaukee reached the 100-point mark for just the 19th time.

INSIDE THE ARENA: There was an unusual buzz in the building despite the matchup of lottery-bound teams. Pistons owner Karen Davidson and billionaire financier Tom Gores reached a definitive agreement for Gores to purchase the franchise and its assets, though it still must be approved by the league's Board of Governors. "I'm happy for Mrs. D," Pistons center Ben Wallace said. "They've been good to us over the years we've been here and I'm happy she was able to sell the team. We're excited about a new owner coming in who loves Detroit and loves Detroit basketball, just to try to change things around and get us back on track."

ROOKIE WATCH: Detroit's Greg Monroe only attempted three field goals but made 7 of 8 free throws while scoring 11 points. He also contributed eight rebounds and three assists.

NOTABLE: Bogut will be undergoing surgery on his right elbow in the near future to clean out scar tissue and loose bodies. ... Milwaukee forward Ersan Ilyasova scored 18 points after missing 21 games with a concussion. ... Detroit guard Will Bynum and center Ben Wallace were sidelined by right knee injuries. ... The Pistons collected their 28th victory to surpass last season's victory total. ... Detroit controlled the boards, 49-32.
