The Dallas Mavericks' season-high six-game road trip is coming to an end in a venue where opponents haven't been very successful recently.

The Portland Trail Blazers seek their eighth consecutive home victory Sunday night as LaMarcus Aldridge looks to continue his impressive run against Dallas in a possible postseason preview.

Aldridge scored 32 points Friday in a 98-91 victory against Oklahoma City as sixth-place Portland (44-32) pulled within 2 1/2 games of Denver for fifth in the Western Conference. The Blazers lead seventh-place Memphis by one-half game and eighth-place New Orleans by a full game with six remaining.

Given the tight playoff race, Aldridge said Portland simply needs to keep winning.

"I feel like if we stay solid, and we keep playing like we did (Friday), we'll be fine," Aldridge said

Coach Nate McMillan shuffled his lineup against the Thunder, bringing Nicolas Batum off the bench for the first time in 48 games and starting Marcus Camby. Gerald Wallace also was shifted to small forward.

Batum responded with 19 points, but McMillan would not commit to the same lineup against the Mavericks.

"I thought tonight we did some good things. We may have to make some adjustments," McMillan said. "I thought that small unit when Nicolas came into the game, we were aggressive. Guys just have to be ready to play."

Aldridge has seemed more than ready when facing Dallas. He's averaging 31.0 points in three meetings this season, including 30 in the most recent matchup - a 104-101 victory on March 15 in Portland.

However, the Mavericks won the previous two contests and look to take three of four in the season series.

Dallas overcame Aldridge's 35 points Dec. 15 in a 103-98 win, then beat Portland 84-81 on Jan. 4 without an injured Dirk Nowitzki.

The Mavericks (53-23) fell 2 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Lakers for second in the West with a 99-92 loss Saturday at Golden State. Dallas has lost two straight following a five-game winning streak and dropped to 3-2 on their road trip.

The Mavericks lead fourth-place Oklahoma City by three games with six remaining.

Shawn Marion scored a team-high 21 points off the bench, but Nowitzki shot just 5 of 16 from the field and finished with 16 points. Dallas was 5 for 25 from 3-point range.

Dallas and Portland could meet in the postseason for the first time since the 2002-03 season, when the third-seeded Mavericks beat the No. 6-seed Blazers in seven games.

"We'd love to get some wins here before we start off, but the playoffs are also a completely new season," Nowitzki said. "We'd love to get some momentum, start making some shots, look a little better. We look a little flat lately, look a little tired. So hopefully we can step it up here."

Nowitzki scored 28 points in the most recent loss to the Blazers, but he's averaging just 20.8 points against them in his career. That marks the second-worst average against any team, just ahead of the 20.3 points he's averaging against Cleveland.

Dallas has won three of the last five meetings in Portland.

Wallace has 19 and Blazers down Mavs 104-96

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) There was a buzz after the Trail Blazers beat the Mavericks surrounding the possibility that the two teams could reunite in the first round of the playoffs.

So the 104-96 result Sunday night, while it was a needed victory for Portland, shouldn't be given too much weight, reasoned Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge.

"The playoffs are a whole different level. It's a whole different monster," he explained. "We can't think that just because we beat them that it's going to be easy."

Both teams were waiting for the playoff pairings to shake out with five games remaining. Dallas sits at third in the Western Conference, while the Blazers are in sixth, a game up on Memphis and New Orleans.

"That's too far ahead for me to even think about right now," said Dallas guard Jason Terry. "We can't get too far ahead of ourselves, if we do we're not looking at the right picture."

Portland guard Andre Miller agreed: "We're not going to get caught up in all that stuff. Whoever we face, we face."

The Blazers, who led the sluggish Mavs by as many as 21 points, have won eight straight at home and seven of their last 10 overall in their push toward the playoffs.

Shawn Marion had 19 points for Dallas, which has lost three straight. The Mavericks looked fatigued for good reason: It was their fourth game in five nights and the final stop on a six-game trip.

"Tonight we just didn't have that extra burst. They got every loose ball, they got all the big rebounds, they just outhustled us," Terry said. "That tells me we have a weary team. We need to get back home and get re-energized."

The Mavericks were without center Tyson Chandler because of a sore lower back. It was just the seventh game the 7-foot-1 veteran has missed this season. Brendan Haywood started in his place.

The Mavericks were coming off a 99-92 loss to Golden State on Saturday night, which all but eliminated their chances of landing the second seed in the West. Earlier in the week, Dallas fell 110-82 to the Lakers in an unruly game that saw the ejection of five players.

"They've been on the road for six games. We know how that feels. We know how it feels when you get down," Aldridge said. "So we just wanted to get them down early and not give them any confidence.

Aldridge scored 10 points in the game's first 9 minutes as the Blazers jumped out to a 19-12 lead. Portland would lead by as many as 15 in the first half.

After Jose Barea's scoop narrowed it to 43-39 for Dallas, Portland went on an 18-7 run to close the half with a 61-46 lead.

Dallas was hurt when Barea, who led the reserves with 10 points, collected his third foul in the first half. He eventually fouled out with 4:20 to go.

The Blazers built a 72-52 lead midway through the third quarter on Miller's pull-up jumper.

Brandon Roy's layup in the fourth made it 95-74.

DeShawn Stevenson hit a 3-pointer to pull the Mavericks to 95-82, but Wesley Matthews answered with a layup and a free throw for Portland.

Dallas coach Rick Carlisle finally sat Dirk Nowitzki with 4:20 left.

"Worried a bit much," Nowitzki said when asked if he's concerned about where the Mavericks are as the season winds down. "Obviously this is a little late to be going down. Definitely disappointed. But it could be worse - this could be the playoffs."

THE FACTS: Gerald Wallace scored 19 points to lead six Trail Blazers in double figures in a 104-96 victory over Dallas Sunday night at the Rose Garden. It was the eighth straight home victory for Portland (45-32), which remains in sixth place in the Western Conference, a game ahead of both Memphis and New Orleans (44-33). Shawn Marion scored 19 points for Dallas (53-24), which lost its third game in a row.

QUOTABLE: "Defensively, we made (the Mavericks) work. The execution on the offensive end was really good -- recognizing the mismatches and going to them right away. We were sharp."

THE STAT: With Dallas center Tyson Chandler (back) out of action, Portland pounded the Mavericks inside, winning the points-in-the-paint battle 50-38.

TURNING POINT: The Mavericks were within 76-65 late in the third quarter when Rudy Fernandez keyed a 9-0 Portland run, finishing it with a driving dunk for an 85-65 lead late in the period. Dallas scored heavily in garbage time to make the final count respectable.

QUOTABLE II: "It's not about trying to match up with anyone. It's about winning games, finding a rhythm down the stretch and just getting to the playoffs."
-- LaMarcus Aldridge, asked if the Blazers were trying to make a statement against a potential postseason opponents. If the playoffs began today, No. 3 Dallas would face No. 6 Portland in the first round.

HOT: Wallace did most of his damage on drives to the basket, making 8 of 10 shots from the field.

NOT: Dallas guard Jason Kidd looked like a 38-year-old veteran playing his fourth game in five nights. Kidd went scoreless on 0-for-6 shooting.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: Wallace filled the scoresheet with 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals in 37 minutes.

INSIDE THE ARENA: It was the Trail Blazers' fourth annual "Green Awareness" game, promoting sustainability, recycling and renewable energy. The Rose Garden became the first existing professional sports venue in the world to achieve the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification in 2010.

GOOD MOVE: Fernandez made the hustle play of the game. Playing defense late in the third quarter, he tipped a Marion pass, raced to the sideline to retrieve the ball and made a baseball pass to Wallace for a fast-break layup.

BAD MOVE: With his team trailing 93-74 and 8:49 remaining, Dallas coach Rick Carlisle reinserted Dirk Nowitzki in the game. Nowitzki played the rest of the way and played 35 minutes when a rest at this point in the season with defeat all but inevitable would have been a good idea.

ROOKIE WATCH: Portland center Chris Johnson entered the game (surprisingly) in the second quarter and made a nice dipsy-do reverse layup off the glass.

NOTABLE: The teams split their season series 2-2, with each team winning twice on its homecourt.
