The Cleveland Cavaliers were elated after snapping the longest losing streak in NBA history last month against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Coach Byron Scott was anything but pleased following Cleveland's latest outing.

The visiting Cavaliers will try for a 10th consecutive win over the Clippers when the teams meet Saturday for the first time since exchanging point guards prior to the trade deadline.

Cleveland (13-54) entered its Feb. 11 matchup with Los Angeles (26-43) having lost a league-record 26 straight but ended the slide with a 126-119 victory, recording its highest scoring output of the season.

Baron Davis had 26 points and seven assists for the Clippers while Mo Williams registered 17 and 14, respectively, for the Cavaliers.

Davis, along with an unprotected first-round draft pick, was traded to Cleveland 13 days later for Williams and forward Jamario Moon, a move that has yet to greatly improve either team in the standings.

While the Clippers, who are 13th in the Western Conference, are 5-6 since the deal, the league-worst Cavaliers fell to 3-7 with a 111-70 defeat at Portland on Thursday night.

Cleveland, outscored 37-12 in the first quarter and 25-11 in the third, suffered its most lopsided defeat since registering the lowest point total in franchise history in a 112-57 road loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Jan. 11.

"A good, old-fashioned butt whooping. Our team is just so soft mentally, it's unbelievable," Scott said Thursday. "We were just on our heels the whole night, with no resistance defensively."

Davis returned after missing three games due to the death of his grandmother but had three points and three turnovers with no assists in 15 minutes.

"I think it's a learning process. It's definitely, definitely disappointing," Davis said. "A lot of teams lose ... you go through tough losses like this, blowout losses like that and hopefully we can re-group and put everything in perspective and just play with a little bit more passion and more energy to start the games, and let that be our guiding light."

While Cavs top scorer Antawn Jamison is likely out for the season with a broken pinky, Clippers leading scorer Eric Gordon could return Saturday after missing 24 of the last 26 games with a wrist injury. Gordon missed last month's matchup with Cleveland while Jamison scored 35 points.

Los Angeles has lost three of four since winning a season-high four straight. The team was back home after a five-game road trip Wednesday night and lost 104-94 to Philadelphia.

"We just need to do a better job of coming out of the gates ready," said Blake Griffin, who had 14 points on 3-of-12 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. "It's on us and it's on me. I have to do a better job making sure I'm ready and prepared for every game."

Griffin had 32 points and 13 boards last month against the Cavs but is averaging 16.9 points - 5.3 below his season mark - on 40.2 percent shooting in the last seven games. He's third in the league with 54 double-doubles but hasn't had one in five straight.

Los Angeles has lost nine in a row to the Cavaliers since a 102-90 win Dec. 3, 2005.

Blake, Gordon lead Clippers over Cavs 100-92

LOS ANGELES (AP) Some strange things have happened to the Los Angeles Clippers before, during and after games during the team's 27 seasons in Los Angeles - but nothing like this.

About 1 1/2 hours before their 100-92 victory over Cleveland on Saturday, Staples Center was in lockdown while police subdued a man wielding a steak knife in front of the Cavaliers' bench. Both teams were safely tucked away in their dressing rooms during the tense standoff before the culprit was subdued by a beanbag gun, handcuffed and led away.

The incident did not delay the start of the game, which was followed by an NHL contest between the Kings and Anaheim Ducks.

"That was crazy, man. There aren't too many knife standoffs in Oklahoma - not that I can remember. So it's a first for me," said Clippers rookie Blake Griffin, the former Sooners forward. "I was sitting in here next to D.J. (DeAndre Jordan) and Randy Foye came in and said: `Yo, somebody just pulled a knife.' I was like, `What?' And then they explained the whole thing. We were trapped in here for a while. But both teams had to go through it, so it didn't really put us at a disadvantage."

Coaches Vinny Del Negro of the Clippers and Byron Scott of the Cavaliers requested some extra time for their teams to warm up, but were turned down by the league office.

"We asked for 15 more minutes. In fact, we agreed on it - myself and Vinny - and the NBA said five, which I don't understand," Scott said. "I mean, either give us 15 or don't give us any. What's five minutes going to do? What the hell is that? That didn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

"It was a weird day, period," Scott added. "You had things happen throughout the day, but you've just got kind of put it in the back of your mind and play basketball. And I think both teams did that."

Griffin had 30 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, helping the Clippers end a nine-game losing streak against the Cavaliers. Eric Gordon scored 29 points in his return to the lineup.

Los Angeles avenged a 126-119 overtime loss at Cleveland on Feb. 11 that snapped the Cavs' NBA-record 26-game losing streak. It was the first time the team with the league's worst record lost to the Clippers since Dec. 3, 2005, at Los Angeles.

"Everybody was executing out there and hitting shots, and defensively we stepped it up a little bit in transition," Griffin said. "Anytime Eric's out there, it just opens up the court for everybody. He's such a good scorer, he puts a lot of pressure on teams. So teams have to know where he is at all times."

Gordon, the Clippers' leading scorer, missed 18 games because of a sprained right wrist and small bone fracture that occurred on Jan. 22. He sat out the previous six games after aggravating the injury in his second game back.

"I really tried to play with no restrictions," Gordon said. "I tried not to pay attention to it. If it gets knocked or banged, or if I land on the floor wrong like I did the other two times, it is what it is. But I've just got to keep on going out there and playing."

J.J. Hickson led the Cavs with 28 points and nine rebounds, and Samardo Samuels scored 17 before fouling out with 1:19 remaining.

Baron Davis, whom the Clippers traded to Cleveland on Feb. 24 for Mo Williams and Jamario Moon, did not play in his return to Staples Center because of back spasms. He scored three points in 14 1/2 minutes for the Cavs on Thursday at Portland, after missing three games because of the death of his grandmother.

Williams had 11 points and five assists in his first game against his former team. Moon spent the entire game on the bench.

Los Angeles led 54-50 at halftime, sparked by 15 points each from Griffin and Gordon. Craig Smith scored six points during a 14-4 run that turned a one-point deficit into a 46-37 lead with 5 1/2 minutes left in the second quarter.

The Clippers carried an 82-78 lead into the fourth and increased it to 100-90 on a 3-pointer by Williams with 2:07 to play.

NOTES: Griffin failed to record a double-double for the sixth straight game. He had a streak of 27 in a row earlier this season, the longest by a rookie since Elvin Hayes' 60 in a row in 1968. ... Cleveland has to win 10 of its final 14 games to avoid its first 60-loss season since 2002-03, when the Cavaliers finished 17-65 before drafting LeBron James with the No. 1 overall pick. The worst record in Cavaliers history was 15-67, which was set during the inaugural 1970-71 campaign and equaled in 1981-82.

THE FACTS: After back-to-back so-so performances, Los Angeles Clippers rookie forward Blake Griffin had his best game in more than a month Saturday afternoon against the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers, totaling 30 points, eight rebounds and eights assists in a 100-92 victory at Staples Center.

QUOTABLE: "I thought Blake had a solid game, not only scoring but having eight assists.

THE STAT: Griffin came in averaging 22.2 points and 12.2 rebounds, putting him on pace to become the first rookie to average at least 20 points and 10 rebounds since Elton Brand's first year as a member of the 1999-2000 Chicago Bulls. Only 20 players in NBA history have produced those stats in their rookie season.

TURNING POINT: The Clippers led by two points with 10 1/2 minutes remaining but reserve guard Eric Bledsoe scored a lay up and reserve forward Craig Smith hit consecutive jump shots sandwiched around a Cleveland timeout to give the Clippers an 88-80 lead. The Cavaliers never got back within one possession.

QUOTABLE II: "I just wish we had that sense of urgency earlier in the game. The last couple of games we've got back on our heels a little bit, and I thought we found more energy at specific times during the game."

HOT: Cleveland center J.J. Hickson shot 12-for-18 from the floor and scored a team-high 28 points. Hickson, a third-year player out of North Carolina State, scored 14 points in the third quarter.

NOT: Ryan Gomes continued his late-season nose dive, solidifying the Clippers' need for a consistent small forward in the offseason. Gomes scored two points in 13 minutes, which is actually two more than he scored in the previous two games.

GOOD MOVE: The Clippers used a three-guard lineup for much of the game and it worked well. Eric Gordon (29 points, five assists), Mo Williams (11 points, five points), Bledsoe (six points) and Randy Foye (four points, six assists) each played at least 24 minutes.

BAD MOVE: With Griffin and the guards dominating play, the centers for the Clippers took the day off. DeAndre Jordan and Chris Kaman were a combined 2-for-10 from the field with four points and nine rebounds.

ROOKIE WATCH: Cleveland rookie Samardo Samuels 16 of his 17 points in the first half. Samuels, an undrafted rookie out of Louisville, came in averaging 14 points since moving into a starting role March 2.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: Gordon shot 9-for-20 from the floor in his first game back since re-injuring his right wrist March 5 against Denver. He missed a lay up in the final seconds that would have given the Clippers two 30-point scorers for the first time this season.

INSIDE THE ARENA: About 90 minutes before the scheduled tip off, a knife-wielding assailant engaged in a 20-minute standoff with Los Angeles Police near the Cavaliers' bench. At least two Clippers and one player for Cleveland were on the court at the time but were quickly ushered to their respective locker rooms. Police used non-lethal force to take the man into custody and the start of the game was not delayed.

NOTABLE: Cleveland point guard Baron Davis, who was traded from the Clippers to the Cavaliers last month, did not play due to back spasms. Health issues had been a major concern while Davis was in Los Angeles.
