Kevin Garnett said it felt like the Boston Celtics lost a family member when the team decided to deal Kendrick Perkins shortly before Thursday's trade deadline.

Judging by their performance later that night, the Celtics can't get their new additions on the floor fast enough.

Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic will likely make their Boston debuts Saturday night at Staples Center against the Los Angeles Clippers, who may have to wait another game before seeing their recent acquisitions on the court.

There were eight trades made on the day of the deadline, none more surprising than the deal that sent Perkins - widely regarded as one of the league's top interior defenders - and Nate Robinson to Oklahoma City for Green and Krstic.

The trade hit home with Boston's veterans, who watched Perkins become an integral part of one of the league's best defensive teams the past three seasons.

"It's definitely emotional," Paul Pierce said. "... The guys around this locker room were definitely hurt to see Perk go."

The shorthanded Celtics (41-15) looked like a distracted team Thursday night in Denver, shooting just 39.0 percent and getting outrebounded 52-38 in an 89-75 loss.

"Tough day to play basketball," Garnett said. "Very tough day to play basketball, to even concentrate. Just being bluntly honest. You feel like you lost a family member today."

Coach Doc Rivers said he expects Green and Krstic to practice Saturday, which would likely let them play against the Clippers (21-38).

That's great news for Green, who had a team-high 22 points as the Thunder routed Los Angeles 111-88 on Tuesday.

Contract talks had stalled with Perkins, a free agent after this season, so the likelihood of losing the big man over the summer certainly played into Boston's decision.

The concern of not having a reliable option behind Pierce also weighed heavily. Disappointing backup Marquis Daniels was shipped to Sacramento on Thursday, and the Celtics are hoping Green can give them what swingman James Posey did during their run to the 2008 title.

"We've been trying to get that lineup since Posey left. And I think people forget how many times we did that in the playoffs, which was every fourth quarter for the most part," Rivers said. "We haven't been able to duplicate that."

The Clippers traded Baron Davis to Cleveland on Thursday for Mo Williams and Jamario Moon, but neither newcomer played Friday against the Lakers because Davis had yet to take his physical.

Both hope to be cleared Saturday, but coach Vinny Del Negro thinks it's more likely they'll debut Monday at Sacramento.

The Clippers played their first game in Los Angeles since Feb. 2 on Friday, but their matchup with the Lakers was technically an away game - their 11th in a row. To cap the league's longest road trip since 1978, the Clippers trailed by just two at halftime but were outscored 33-17 in the third quarter en route to a 108-95 loss.

"It's still a road game with their crowd and things, but we're looking forward to tomorrow night," Del Negro said. "The schedule hasn't been in our favor, with everything we've had to deal with."

The Clippers have won nine of their last 10 at home behind 28.1 points per game from Blake Griffin, who will have his hands full down low against Garnett.

Boston has lost its past two road games against the Clippers by two points apiece, though it was without Garnett two years ago and Pierce last season.

Celts hold off Clippers with newcomers in uniform

LOS ANGELES (AP) Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic are still getting used to those classic green uniforms, and they're stunned to hear fans on the road cheering them louder than the home team.

Sure, the newest Boston Celtics have plenty to learn about playing for a classic NBA franchise after getting out of Oklahoma City. They already know they'll love playing alongside four All-Stars who take turns taking charge down the stretch.

Paul Pierce scored 24 points, Ray Allen added 22, and the Celtics rallied in the second half for their fourth victory in five games, 99-92 over the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday night.

Kevin Garnett had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the defending Eastern Conference champions, who began integrating Green and Krstic into their lineup after acquiring them from the Thunder on Thursday in an uncommonly wrenching trade for Kendrick Perkins and Nate Robinson.

"There was a lot of emotion for us, just like when Kendrick left here," Green said. "But when our cheers were louder than the Clippers' cheers out there, that's when you realize it's amazing to be a part of something like this."

Krstic had nine points, six rebounds and five fouls while starting at center, and Green added seven points and one rebound in 17 minutes as a reserve. Both players acknowledged tremendous cases of nerves mixed with eagerness to jump into the thick of a playoff stretch run.

"I'm so glad just to be on the court with these guys, and then to actually play and make a contribution," Krstic said. "I think I did OK for the first game when I didn't even have a practice."

Although Rajon Rondo managed just two points while taking two shots and racking up 11 assists, the Celtics' All-Stars didn't need much backup against the Clippers. Boston made a 24-7 run spanning halftime and hung on down the stretch, with Pierce scoring 16 points in the second half.

The Celtics sleepwalked through portions of a loss in Denver on Thursday night, their emotions still churning immediately after the trade.

"Sometimes we know how to close them," Pierce said. "It was great for their first day, because we really didn't have a lot of stuff for them. It's hard, because we only had a shootaround to prepare, so it's going to take time ... but the good thing about it is that we have 25 games left, and hopefully that's enough time to implement them into what we're trying to do, and tonight wasn't a bad start."

Randy Foye scored 32 points and Blake Griffin added 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Clippers in their first home game since Feb. 2 following an 11-game road trip. The Clippers had won nine straight home games before losing to Chicago right before leaving town for nearly four weeks.

The Clippers committed 21 turnovers in their 10th loss in 12 games, but at least they're home after what's thought to be the second-longest road trip in NBA history while the Grammys and All-Star weekend occupied Staples Center. The game also was Los Angeles' fourth in five brutally difficult nights out of the All-Star break, including Friday night's loss to the Lakers.

"It's tough playing back-to-back games, especially against the two teams that we just played," Griffin said after consecutive games against the defending conference champions. "We have good pieces. We've just got to get them out there all at the same time."

While the Celtics had their newcomers in uniform, new Clippers Mo Williams and Jamario Moon still weren't allowed to suit up while the club finishes up the paperwork after acquiring them from Cleveland for Baron Davis, who apparently still hasn't taken his physical for the Cavaliers. The Clippers also might get high-scoring guard Eric Gordon back from a wrist injury next week.

Chris Kaman had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Clippers, but the former All-Star center is limited to 25 minutes per game in his comeback from an ankle injury. Rookie Eric Bledsoe had another tough game while starting in Davis' usual spot, scoring six points on 3-of-10 shooting with six assists.

"We've had our starters basically for three games the whole year due to injuries," Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said. "The results aren't what we want, but I see young guys getting experience which will pay off in the long run."

NOTES: The Clippers are expecting Williams and Moon to be in uniform for Monday's game at Sacramento, but they don't know if the trade will be formalized in time for the players to practice with the team on Sunday. ... Los Angeles led by 13 points in the first half before Boston's rally spanning halftime, capped by a ferocious dunk by Garnett on an alley-oop pass from Rondo. ... In the Celtics' last visit to the Clippers on Dec. 27, 2009, Davis won it 92-90 with a fallaway jumper at the buzzer after Rondo missed two free throws in the final seconds.

Celtics-Clippers notebook

THE FACTS: The Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic era began Saturday night for the Boston Celtics, and their new teammates welcomed the duo with a 99-92 victory against the Los Angeles Clippers at Staples Center.

QUOTABLE: "They were good. They didn't know a lot of the things we were running. They both had some bright moments for us and you can see they'll be really good. I'm going to have to figure out how to use Jeff. I have no idea yet."

THE STAT: In their first game with the Celtics since getting traded Thursday from the Oklahoma City Thunder, Green scored seven points off the bench in 18 minutes of play. Krstic started at center for Boston and collected nine points and six rebounds in 21 minutes.

TURNING POINT: The Clippers led by seven points at the half but committed seven turnovers in the opening seven minutes of the third quarter, allowing Boston to blow ahead with a 16-2 run and take a nine-point lead. The Clippers cut the deficit to three early in the fourth quarter, but Delonte West and Paul Pierce hit consecutive 3-point baskets to halt the comeback.

QUOTABLE II: "The thing about them is how well they move the ball and play off each other. You can tell they have been playing together for a while. That's tough to beat when they're moving the ball and everybody knows their role."

HOT: Randy Foye of the Clippers, who is expected to pick up the backcourt slack for the injured Eric Gordon and recently traded Baron Davis, scored a season-high 32 points and distributed seven assists. He also made a season-best four 3-pointers on 11 attempts.

NOT: Eric Bledsoe, thrust into the starting point guard role after Davis was traded to Cleveland on Thursday, shot 3-for-10 from the field and committed five turnovers. Fellow rookie Al-Farouq Aminu also looked shaky during his 21 minutes off the bench, missing five of six shots and committing three turnovers.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: Pierce scored 24 points in his return to the city where he was raised. He didn't shoot particularly well but managed to get to the free-throw line 13 times and tied his season high with 11 conversions.

GOOD MOVE: Krstic got the start but Glen Davis carried much of the load in the middle, scoring 10 points and grabbing four rebounds while spending considerable time guarding Griffin.

BAD MOVE: Baron Davis still hadn't taken his physical as of game time, leaving Mo Williams and Jamario Moon to sit and watch the game from behind the Clippers' bench. Williams and Moon were acquired from Cleveland in exchange for Davis, but until the former Clipper passes his physical, they can't even practice with their new team.

ROOKIE WATCH: Griffin had another solid all-around game for Los Angeles, scoring 21 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. He didn't waste any time showing off in his first game against the Celtics, catching a high lob passes early in the first quarter and throwing down a thunderous dunk to the delight of the sold-out crowd.

INSIDE THE ARENA: Actor Billy Crystal and game show host Pat Sajak were among those in attendance for the Clippers' first home game since Feb. 2.

NOTABLE: Clippers center Chris Kaman had his best game since returning from a two-month absence due to a sprained ankle. Kaman scored 16 points off the bench on 8-for-12 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds. Clippers forward Craig Smith also had his best game since returning from a back injury that cost him two months, scoring four points and grabbing three rebounds in nine minutes of action.
