With a thrilling comeback win in their last contest, the Charlotte Bobcats have opened a season-high six-game road trip with three straight victories.

Remaining unbeaten on the trip won't be easy.

The Bobcats try to win five consecutive road games for the first time in franchise history Saturday night against a Los Angeles Clippers team seeking an eighth straight home victory for the first time in nearly 18 years.

Charlotte (20-25) arrives in Los Angeles following Friday's 121-113 overtime win at Golden State. Things weren't looking good for the Bobcats, who trailed by 16 points in the third quarter and by eight with 90 seconds to go in regulation, but they managed to send the game to overtime on Stephen Jackson's 3-point bank shot from 28 feet out with 0.6 seconds remaining.

Jackson went on to notch seven of his 31 points in overtime, as Charlotte scored 31 of the game's final 46 points. The Bobcats, who opened their road trip with victories in Sacramento and Phoenix, have won four straight away from Charlotte overall.

"(To go) 3-0 on the road trip is a great start," said Jackson, averaging 25.0 points in his last three games after averaging 13.2 in his previous six.

Losers of 11 of 12 road games prior to their current streak, the Bobcats have never won five straight away from home in their seven-year history.

While the Bobcats are looking comfortable on the road, Los Angeles (17-28) has been tough to beat on its home court.

The Clippers have won seven straight at Staples Center since a 107-98 loss to Atlanta on Jan. 2. They now have a chance to win eight consecutive home games for the first time since March 20-April 16, 1993, when they played at the Los Angeles Sports Arena.

Blake Griffin and the Clippers are now hoping a return to Staples Center for three games can help them put back-to-back road defeats behind them.

Griffin, the runaway favorite for NBA rookie of the year honors, looked rather ordinary in Wednesday's 96-83 loss at Houston. He missed 11 of 16 shots and finished with 14 points - his fewest since scoring 13 in a win over Sacramento on Dec. 6.

"I didn't have great energy," said Griffin, who also had 11 rebounds. "I have to motivate myself to bring energy at a higher level."

Griffin wore a black sleeve on his left arm to protect the elbow he hurt on a hard foul by Dallas' Brendan Haywood in Tuesday's 112-105 defeat. When asked about his elbow after the game, he said it was all right.

Griffin wasn't the only Clipper to struggle Wednesday, as the team finished with a season-low 10 fourth-quarter points while shooting 4 of 25 from the floor in the final period.

"I liked our intensity but we just didn't get our offense together," coach Vinny Del Negro said.

The Clippers have had their offense together at Staples Center lately. They are averaging 110.6 points during their home winning streak - 11.3 better than their season average - with Griffin averaging 35.3 points in his last three home contests.

This will be Griffin's first game against the Bobcats. These teams split their two meetings last season, with each winning on its home court.

Griffin leads Clippers past Bobcats

LOS ANGELES (AP) Blake Griffin might get 40 or more minutes on a regular basis now that Clippers scoring leader Eric Gordon is on the shelf for the next month because of an injury to his right wrist. For Randy Foye, his increased playing time is already assured.

Griffin had 24 points and 10 rebounds, Foye added 21 points in his third straight start for Gordon, and Los Angeles extended its home winning streak to eight with a 103-88 victory over Charlotte on Saturday night.

Griffin had his 38th double-double of the season and 32nd in 33 games, shooting 11 for 23 in 41 minutes. The team is 5-7 when he plays at least 40. The 21-year-old forward already has played 11 more games than he did two years ago at Oklahoma before going into the NBA draft at the end of his sophomore season.

"I think I'm kind of used to it now," said Griffin, the overwhelming favorite for rookie of the year honors after missing the entire 2009-10 season with a knee injury. "But at the same time, I've got to do a good a good job of taking care of my body and getting rest and making sure I'm ready to go night in and night out through this whole process."

The Clippers matched the 1992-93 squad for the longest home winning streak since the franchise moved from San Diego to Los Angeles for the 1984-85 season. They won for the first time in three games since Gordon, their leading scorer, chipped a bone in his wrist a week ago in a 113-109 victory over Golden State.

"We took care of the ball, first of all," Griffin said. "We had just two turnovers at halftime, which is huge. And seven turnovers for the game for seven points is unbelievable. It might be the best game we've had, as far as that goes. And we played pretty good defense at times."

Baron Davis scored eight of his 12 points during a 1:19 span of the fourth quarter to help seal the Clippers' eighth victory in 12 games. Griffin tried to put an exclamation point on the win, but clanged a dunk with 4:31 to play after getting an alley-oop feed from Davis.

"I wasn't happy about it," said Griffin, who is scheduled to compete in the All-Star slam dunk contest next month at Staples Center. "I tried to mask it with a smile, but it happens. Luckily we were up by a lot, so it didn't matter. But it wasn't something I wanted to do."

Stephen Jackson and reserve Gerald Henderson each scored 14 points for Charlotte. The Bobcats are tied with Philadelphia for seventh place in the Eastern Conference playoff race, a half-game ahead of Milwaukee.

"We knew we were going to be a little flat tonight," Jackson said, referring to the Bobcats' emotional overtime win over Golden State on Friday. "I knew guys were going to be tired. I was tired."

Clippers center DeAndre Jordan had just four points and four rebounds in 26 minutes after getting into early foul trouble, forcing Griffin and Foye to pick up the slack even more at both ends.

"I put a lot of pressure on myself to make plays and try to help us, especially now," Foye said. "With Eric out, I'm that guy they go to on the perimeter - me and Baron kind of split it."

Griffin led Los Angeles to a 57-42 halftime lead with 19 points and eight rebounds. They missed their first five shots from 3-point range before Foye and Ryan Gomes connected 30 seconds apart during a 16-2 run that extended a two-point lead to 52-36 with 2:55 left in the half.

"We got Blake going early because we wanted to re-establish him, Randy Foye got off to a good start, and we just pushed the ball and took the first good opportunity we going get on every possession and continue to apply the pressure on them," Davis said. "And we concentrated on our defense."

The Clippers, who were 11 for 29 on 3-pointers, got two from Gomes and one from Foye at the end of a 16-5 run that opened up a 76-51 lead with 5:13 left in the third quarter.

Coach Vinny Del Negro had all of his starters on the bench at the start of the fourth with a 23-point cushion, and the Bobcats used that opportunity to go on a 12-0 run that sliced it to 83-72 with 7:38 remaining. The last basket came when Clippers Jordan accidentally tipped the ball into the wrong basket after a missed layup by Kwame Brown.

NOTES: The victory was Del Negro's 100th as an NBA coach in the regular season, including 82 with Chicago. ... The Clippers are 8-5 in January with one game remaining, and have clinched their first winning month since November 2009 (8-6). ... This was the 16th time Griffin has missed 10 or more field goal attempts. The Clippers are 4-12 in those games, and 7-8 when he makes 10 or more shots. ... Because of the injuries to Gordon, Chris Kaman (left ankle) and Craig Smith (back), there were only three players on the Clippers' active roster for this game who suited up the last time they hosted the Bobcats on Feb. 22 and beat them 98-94 - Jordan, Davis and Rasual Butler.

Bobcats-Clippers notebook

THE FACTS: With leading scorer Eric Gordon sidelined with a sprained right wrist for a few more weeks, the Los Angeles Clippers need Randy Foye to pick up some of the scoring slack. He came through again Saturday night, scoring a season-high 21 points to left the Clippers to a 103-88 victory against the streaking Charlotte Bobcats at Staples Center.

THE STAT: Since Gordon went down with the injury Jan. 22 against Golden State, Foye has recorded a season-high point total in each game. He scored 15 points Tuesday in a seven-point loss in Dallas, and 20 the following day in a 13-point loss in Houston.

TURNING POINT: With the Bobcats trailing by two points with about seven minutes remaining in the first half, the Clippers scored 11 straight points and then stretched the run to 16-2 on a put back by rookie Blake Griffin. Six different Clippers scored during the run, and Charlotte didn't pull within single digits the rest of the game.

HOT: Another player who needs to bump up his scoring during Gordon's absence is small forward Ryan Gomes. He came through against the Bobcats, scoring 18 points on 6-for-8 shooting, including 3-for-4 from beyond the 3-point stripe.

NOT: Clippers center DeAndre Jordan was saddled with foul trouble for most of the first half and finished with just four points and four rebounds, his least productive game in about eight weeks.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: Griffin finished with a team-high 24 points and 10 rebounds. He was especially strong early on, scoring 15 points in the opening quarter, including a highlight-reel 360-degree spin and reverse lay up. He later dunked Foye's lob pass that was sent from the top of Charlotte's 3-point line.

GOOD MOVE: Beginning in the second quarter, Charlotte coach Paul Silas put seldom-used forward Dominic McGuire on Griffin and that seemed to slow down the rookie, limiting him to nine points the rest of the way. McGuire played 22 minutes, his longest run since Jan. 3 against Miami, and finished with five points, seven rebounds and three assists.

BAD MOVE: The Clippers led by 23 points after three quarters and were in good position to let the starters rest the remainder of the game, but the reserves gave up the first seven points of the fourth quarter, prompting Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro to reinsert Griffin et al.

ROOKIE WATCH: The other two rookies for the Clippers weren't so effective. Eric Bledsoe had two points and three assists and Al Farouq-Aminu had three points and one rebound, both off the bench. They were a combined 2-for-11 from the floor.

NOTABLE: The Clippers committed a season-low seven turnovers. Their previous low was eight against Orlando on Dec. 12. The Clippers have also won eight straight at home. The Bobcats, meanwhile, were trying for a franchise-best fifth straight road win.
