The Utah Jazz have dominated the Eastern Conference this season, and they're currently in the midst of a three-game stretch against the three teams residing in their division basements.

At home, at least, the Washington Wizards haven't been a pushover.

The Jazz begin a five-game road trip Monday afternoon in the nation's capital, where they'll be looking for a fourth straight win while preventing the Wizards from winning a fourth consecutive game at the Verizon Center.

Utah (27-13) tied three other Western Conference teams for the best record against the East last season, going 22-8.

Coach Jerry Sloan's team has enjoyed interconference contests even more in 2010-11. The Jazz improved to 14-2 against the East on Friday night, trouncing woeful Cleveland 121-99 two nights after scoring a season-high 131 in a win versus the Knicks.

"It's hard to play better unless you make every single shot," said reserve guard C.J. Miles, who's averaged 20.0 points during Utah's three-game winning streak. "We did a great job defending, picking up guys full court, getting in guys' passing lanes, rebounding, and we got a run going."

The five-game road trip includes a stop in Boston and concludes against the Lakers, but the first two contests - against Washington (11-27) and New Jersey - seem far less imposing.

But while the Wizards are 0-19 on the road, they've been surprisingly solid at home. Washington improved to 11-8 at the Verizon Center on Saturday as Nick Young scored a game-high 29 points in a 98-95 victory against Toronto.

Young has averaged 26.3 points and is shooting 50.3 percent in his last eight home games. He's averaged 13.2 points on the road in that span.

"Right now he's got an unbelievable comfort level as far as at home," Washington coach Flip Saunders said. "We've got to get him to bring that killer instinct offensively on the road."

Despite the Wizards' solid home record, they've yet to beat a team above .500. They're 0-6 against teams with winning records, though that includes one-point defeats against both Orlando and Miami.

Perhaps the most interesting matchup Monday comes between Utah's Deron Williams and Washington's John Wall, the No. 1 pick in the 2010 draft.

But unlike Young, Wall hasn't been great lately at home. Though he's averaged 9.8 assists in his last five games at the Verizon Center, he's also shot 31.7 percent and averaged 4.2 turnovers.

The Jazz have won six of seven in the series - outscoring the Wizards by an average of 14.7 points - and a major edge at the point has been the key to that success. Williams has averaged 11.3 of Utah's astounding 29.0 assists per game during that stretch.

Finding the open man has typically been the best indicator of whether Sloan's team is successful. The Jazz are 23-2 when they have 22 or more assists and 4-11 when they have 21 or fewer.

Utah's been sharing the ball awfully well of late. It had 31 assists against the Knicks and 32 against Cleveland - including 10 in a 7:41 stretch of the second quarter.

"That's big for us when we get back to running, getting it out and running, and having fun," Williams said.

Blatche, Wall lead Wizards over Jazz 108-101

WASHINGTON (AP) Flip Saunders sent John Wall a long text message on Sunday night. The Washington Wizards coach told his rookie guard that he'd exceeded expectations this season and didn't have to score a lot to have an impact.

Wall responded with 19 points and a career-high 15 assists on Monday to lead the Wizards to their fourth straight home victory and first two-game winning streak of the season, 108-101 over the Utah Jazz.

"We've been on him. We're asking a lot of him," Saunders said.

He told Wall: "Do what you do. Play with energy. Push it up. See if people are open and get people the ball and play with enthusiasm."

Wall did just that with 10 assists in the first 18 minutes of the game.

In the second half, it was Nick Young's turn. Young continued his hot play, scoring 22 of his 25 points in the second half.

The Wizards took control with a 10-0 run midway through the third quarter. With 6:40 remaining, Wall passed to JaVale McGee, who made a leaping, acrobatic dunk and was fouled by Raja Bell. He converted the free throw for a 62-55 lead.

At halftime, Washington led 42-39, and Saunders scolded Wall and his teammates for not finding Young, who had a career-high 43 points three games ago and 29 in his last game.

"We didn't get him any shots," Saunders said. "When he gets going, it opens things up for everybody else."

The result was not only the Wizards' first two-game winning streak, but their first win against a team with a winning record. Utah had won three straight, and played the first of a five-game road trip. The Jazz completed the season's first half with a 27-14 record.

Now, the Wizards are faced with a bigger challenge: winning on the road.

Though Washington is 12-8 at home, feasting on the league's bottom-feeders, they're a horrid 0-19 away from the Verizon Center. Instead of congratulating themselves for this mini-streak, they keep referring to the road woes.

"I think we've been in every game. Somehow, we don't finish it. Just make a ton of mistakes in the fourth quarter," Rashard Lewis said.

The Wizards will try for their first road win on Wednesday in Milwaukee, and Andray Blatche, who had 21 points and 11 rebounds, is attempting to figure out a reason for their struggles.

"When we're home, we have so much more energy and focus. When we're away, we're in the game into the fourth quarter and we lose that focus," Blatche said.

The Wizards were focused nearly the entire game as Blatche hit his first five shots, and they extended the lead to 73-58 with 3:39 left. But the Jazz, who have won 12 games this season after trailing by more than 10, looked as though they might have another comeback in them.

Utah was down 101-91 with 3:11 to play, then scored seven straight to close to 101-98 with 1:26 left. Blatche converted a free throw, Young hit a 3-pointer and Wall made two free throws to secure the win.

At 20, Wall has lots of pressure and he says he's not only OK with getting texts from his coach, he welcomes it, and he's even appreciating their nagging him about his composure.

"I get a fine every time I pout or show frustration on the court. I don't want to lose that money."

Utah was playing its first afternoon game of the season and the first of five on the road. In what amounted to an 11 a.m. start for the Jazz, they lost for just the third time in 17 games against Eastern Conference teams.

Deron Williams had 28 points and 11 assists for Utah in his first matchup with Wall. Al Jefferson had 25 points and 10 rebounds.

"They came out and played better than us," Williams said. "It looked like they wanted it a little bit more, like it meant a little bit more to them."

Notes: Williams reached double figures for the 47th straight game - a career best. ... Utah F Gordon Heyward missed the game with a sinus infection. ... Lewis grabbed his 5,000th career rebound. ... Eddie Jordan, the former Wizards and 76ers coach, visited and chatted with Washington coach Flip Saunders before the game. THE FACTS: Nick Young had 25 points?22 of them in the second half, John Wall scored 19 and had a career-high 15 assists, and Andray Blatche had 21 and 11 rebounds to lead the Washington Wizards to a 108-101 win over the Utah Jazz on Monday afternoon.

It was the Wizards second straight win?the first time they've done that, and their fourth straight at home. It's also the first time they've beaten a team with a winning record.

Utah had a three-game winning streak broken. They were led by Deron Williams, who had 28 points and 11 assists. Al Jefferson had 25 points and 10 rebounds. It was the first meeting between Williams and Wall.

QUOTABLE: "I get a fine every time I pout or show frustration on the court. I don't want to lose that money."

THE STAT: Washington outrebounded Utah 44-33. Besides Blatche's 11, JaVale McGee had 11 and Rashard Lewis had eight.

TURNING POINT: After the Jazz took a 43-42 lead in the first minute of the second half, the Wizards outscored them 29-15 to lead 73-58 with 3:39 to play in the third quarter. Lewis scored all 13 of his points in the third quarter?12 of them in that stretch.

QUOTABLE II: "He's one of the fastest, quickest guys, and he gets out and runs. He's a smart point guard. It's not like he's just a scoring point guard. He knows how to get others involved. You can tell he has a high basketball IQ. He's going to be in this league for a long time, and be one of the top point guards for a long time."

HOT: Young continues his torrid streak. He had a career-high 43 points against Sacramento last Tuesday, and 29 against Toronto on Saturday. In between, he had 15 in Minnesota, but that was on the road. At home, he's nearly unstoppable.

NOT: Utah's Paul Millsap, who entered the game shooting nearly 55 percent and averaging 17.6, was just 4-for-13 from the field. He finished with 11.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: Young continues his Verizon Center scorching streak. If you could find a way to buy him just for home games, that might be an outstanding pickup.

GOOD MOVE: The Wizards finding Young in the second half. He had just three points in the first half, and coach Flip Saunders chided them for not finding him. In the second half, they did. Saunders said that Young has been showing improvement all season long -- even before the Dec. 18 trade of Gilbert Arenas to Orlando. "I thought he was playing better than Gilbert," Saunders said.

BAD MOVE: The NBA for scheduling the first game of a five-game road trip for the Jazz at 1 P.M. Eastern time?11 A.M. body time for Utah. It was the Jazz's first afternoon game of the season.

ROOKIE WATCH: Besides Wall's terrific game, not much to talk about. Washington F Trevor Booker played a scoreless 36 seconds. Utah F Jeremy Evans didn't score in two minutes, and F Gordon Hayward missed the game with a sinus infection.

INSIDE THE ARENA: Former Wizards coach Eddie Jordan was a pre-game visitor, chatting with Saunders, the Wizards' current coach. Jordan, who was fired 11 games into his sixth season, was let go by Philadelphia after his one season, 2009-10. Saunders and Jordan are two of the 11 coaches the Wizards have had in the time Jerry Sloan has coached the Jazz.

NOTABLE: The Jazz fell to 14-3 against Eastern Conference teams and end the first half with a 27-14 record. They started the game tied with Oklahoma City for the Northwest Division lead.
