Despite some recent injuries, Charlotte's spirited play has interim coach Paul Silas excited about his team's potential when healthy.

The Bobcats are expected to get one of their injured stars back Saturday night as they try for a fifth consecutive home win over the Washington Wizards, the NBA's only remaining winless road team.

Without starters Stephen Jackson (knee), Gerald Wallace (ankle) and Nazr Mohammed (knee), Charlotte (12-21) won 108-105 in overtime at Minnesota on Wednesday, improving to 3-2 since Silas replaced the fired Larry Brown.

Tyrus Thomas had 21 points with 11 rebounds and D.J. Augustin and Boris Diaw each scored 16 as the Bobcats overcame a 14-point third quarter to snap a nine-game road skid.

"It's still going to take us some time, but I liked the fact that we did not give up," Silas said. "When I get all of my team back, if they fight the way these guys have been fighting, we have a chance to be pretty good."

Silas and the Bobcats expect to have Jackson back Saturday after a one-game absence. The veteran swingman has averaged 25.0 points his last five contests overall, and 27.3 on 54.5 percent shooting in his last four home games against Washington - two while with Golden State.

It's uncertain if Wallace, who has missed seven of the last nine games, or Mohammed will return for this contest.

Regardless of who is on the floor, Jackson credits Silas's presence for getting the team to play hard.

The Bobcats averaged 91.8 points in 28 games under Brown, but are averaging 98.2 since Silas came out of retirement.

"Everyone's confidence is high right now," Jackson told the Bobcats' official website. "We give the thanks to coach for that and sometimes change will do that."

Augustin went 4 of 17 from the field against the Timberwolves, but has averaged 19.8 points on 48.5 percent shooting in Silas' up-tempo system. He's averaging 8.6 in 10 games against Washington and could face a stiff challenge against Wizards rookie John Wall.

The teams split their first two meetings this season, both in the nation's capital. Wall had 13 points and 11 assists in a 93-85 loss to the Bobcats on Nov. 12. Tendinitis in his knee kept the No. 1 overall draft pick out of the Wizards' 108-75 victory Dec. 20.

Wall was held to five points but had nine assists in a 97-77 home win over New Jersey on Friday as Washington (9-25) snapped a three-game skid.

Now, the Wizards will try for their first road victory after 17 losses.

"If we play the way we are supposed to play and do the things we are supposed to do, we're going to give ourselves a chance," coach Flip Saunders said.

Washington has averaged 87.3 points during a four-game losing streak at Charlotte.

Rashard Lewis had 16 points with 13 rebounds Friday for his second straight double-double. He's averaged 19.1 points in nine career games at Charlotte.

Washington is expected to be without swingman Josh Howard for a second straight game because of a sore left knee. He's averaged a disappointing 7.9 points in eight games this season.

Henderson helps Bobcats beat Wizards 104-89

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Reporters crowded around Gerald Henderson's locker and the playful ribbing from his Bobcats teammates began with chants of "Hendo! Hendo!"

Stephen Jackson then took it a step further.

"This is my first interview ever!" Jackson yelled, pretending to be Henderson.

It just seemed that way after the often forgotten shooting guard's breakthrough game Saturday night that was more than a year overdue.

Posting career highs with 19 points and nine rebounds in 40 minutes, Henderson became the latest player to bust out in interim coach Paul Silas' freewheeling style as Charlotte beat Washington 104-89 to keep the Wizards the NBA's lone winless team on the road.

"My situation now is that Coach Silas is our coach and our team is playing a lot better and I'm playing more," said Henderson after the Bobcats moved to 4-2 since Larry Brown was fired. "I feel like I'm playing better and my teammates have a lot more confidence in me. That's where we're at. That's where I'm at and I love where I'm at."

Jackson scored 21 points and D.J. Augustin added 20 as the Bobcats pulled away early in the fourth quarter, with an aggressive Henderson playing a key role in place of the injured Gerald Wallace.

"Without him tonight, there's no way we would have won," Silas said.

Henderson's 8-of-11 shooting night and three blocks helped spoil rookie John Wall's first game in his home state since high school. The No. 1 pick in the draft had 16 points and 11 assists while playing in front of dozens of family and friends.

Kirk Hinrich scored 18 points for the Wizards, who fell to 0-18 on the road.

"I told our guys that until we can fight through adversity, we will never win on the road," coach Flip Saunders said. "We let bad plays affect us and all of a sudden we hang our heads."

The Wizards rallied from a 12-point, third-quarter deficit to briefly take the lead, but then wilted in an 11-0 Charlotte burst that carried into the fourth quarter despite Wall's solid outing.

Wall's mother, a number of cousins and a loud contingent from his high school all made the 3-hour trip from Raleigh to watch his first professional game in his home state. Wall never played in North Carolina in his lone college season at Kentucky.

"For them to see me on the last level you could reach, it meant a lot to me, especially if we could have came away with a win and our first road win," Wall said. "We just have to keep working and finally get one. We don't want to go the whole season without one."

Henderson may have wondered if he'd go his entire pro career without a game like this.

The 12th pick in the 2009 draft from Duke had been mostly an afterthought. The son of the former NBA player by the same name never cracked Brown's rotation and missed 14 games earlier this season with a sore knee.

"I'm a confident guy and I tried to stay positive but you always have doubts because you haven't done anything on this level," Henderson said. "You don't know yet."

With Wallace sidelined for the seventh time in nine games with an ankle injury, Henderson looked like a bona fide NBA contributor. He was hitting the shots he normally misses and used his athleticism to continually grab rebounds in traffic and make key defensive stops.

Not bad for a guy who had scored 65 points all season coming in and had reached 10 points in a game twice.

"He's a big help for us right now," Augustin said.

Jackson added 10 rebounds in his return after missing a game with a sore knee, helping Charlotte avenge a 33-point loss in Washington last month in what was Brown's second to last in charge.

"It was more than just our play at that time. There was a lot of stuff going on," Jackson said. "A lot of people didn't want to play because of certain situations. People were up and down about being on the team. I think Coach Silas came in and brought us a new life and hopefully you'll never see that team again."

The Wizards are still finding their identity as they struggled to get newly acquired Rashard Lewis involved. He managed only four points on 1-of-5 shooting in 28 minutes. Andray Blatche was 4 of 13 from the field.

"We have to start getting some consistency, or we have to get some other players to play in there," Saunders said. "It's like we didn't play with a purpose at times."

Notes: Wallace could be out up to a week while Nazr Mohammed (knee) could return sooner after he sat out again. ... Wall, who shot 8 of 19, had his 10th double-double. ... Bobcats F Tyrus Thomas picked up his sixth technical foul of the season and his second in two games after complaining about a foul call in the second quarter. ... Blatche picked up a technical early in the fourth.

THE FACTS: Stephen Jackson scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Charlotte Bobcats to a 104-89 win over the Washington Wizards on Saturday night at Time Warner Cable Arena. Kirk Hinrich scored 18 points off the bench for the Wizards who fall to 0-18 on the road while Gerald Henderson scored a career-best 19 points for Charlotte.

QUOTABLE: "We didn't have a lot of energy tonight and we had to grind it out. They went up by one in the third quarter and we ended the quarter up by six. That shows me we were really concentrating and into the game. That's what we have to do.

THE STAT: Second chances. The Bobcats controlled second opportunities. Charlotte grabbed 12 offensive rebounds and turned it into 22 second chance points while the Wizards managed just nine.

TURNING POINT: Quick thinking. Charlotte took advantage of a John Wall turnover and turned the game around. Stephen Jackson quickly inbounded the ball and found Henderson open under the basket for an easy two points with 1:06 left in the third. The basket was in the midst of a 7-0 run for the Bobcats to close out the quarter which took them from one down to six up heading into the final quarter.

QUOTABLE II: "You don't want to have them lingering around because anything could happen. We made a nice little push to finish the quarter and that propelled us into the fourth and we finished out the game. Sometimes when teams make a turnover they aren't really focused on the next play right away. We got the ball out quickly and got an easy basket."

HOT: Gerald Henderson. The Bobcats guard got the start for the injured Gerald Wallace and made a big impact. Henderson had career highs in points (19) and rebounds (nine) while blocking three shots and adding two assists. "He has extreme confidence," Silas said. "He could always defend and rebound, but he didn't score that much. Now he's developing his shot and beginning to understand how to play and without him we wouldn't have won the game."

NOT: Rashard Lewis. The newly acquired Lewis had just four points on 1-for-5 shooting in just 27 minutes of action. Lewis was limited due to early foul trouble and was never a factor in the game. He came in averaging 16.0 points over his last three contests and had double-doubles in the last two games.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: D.J. Augustin. The Bobcats point guard has found new life under Silas. Saturday night he scored 20 points and added nine assists while committing just three turnovers and added two steals as well. Augustin has been in double figures in each game since Silas took over the squad from Larry Brown.

INSIDE THE ARENA: Michael Jordan was seated in his usual seats adjacent to the Bobcats bench while The Gerald Wallace Foundation used an entire suite to host students and their families. Rapper Master P was also spotted at Time Warner Cable Arena.

ROOKIE WATCH: John Wall scored 16 points and dished out 11 assists for the Wizards. The guard was 0-for-5 from behind the arc and committed five turnovers as well in 37 minutes of action.

NOTABLE: Gerald Henderson scored a career-best 19 points with a career-high eight points while grabbing a career-best nine rebounds. ... Stephen Jackson recorded his sixth straight game with 20-plus points and notched his second double-double of the year with 10 rebounds. ... The Bobcats are now 4-2 under Silas and have scored 100 points in four of those six games. Charlotte is 8-3 when eclipsing the century mark. ... Washington's Wall scored in double figures for the 20th time this season and had his 10th double-double. ... The Wizards were outrebounded 43-34, but did have more assists, fewer turnovers and nearly doubled the Bobcats in bench points.
