Playing his second game following the death of his sister, Carmelo Anthony had one of his better performances of the season, once again putting a focus on his future in Denver.

Anthony looks to lead the Nuggets to their third win in a row this season and fifth straight against the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night at Staples Center.

Denver (20-13) extended its winning streak by beating Houston 113-106 on Monday. Anthony had 33 points and 11 rebounds for his fourth game this season of at least 30 and 10 - including three in his last six games since Dec. 12.

"I thought he was the best player on the court," coach George Karl said.

Anthony was 13 of 14 from the free-throw line, but 10 of 25 from the field after a 6-for-22 shooting performance in a win over Sacramento on Saturday. That was his first game back after missing five following the death of his sister. Anthony also was 4 for 4 from the line against the Kings.

"That is one of the strengths of my game, getting to the free-throw line and tonight I was effective at that," he said.

Anthony's performance came after an NBA.com report said he turned down another contract extension offer by the Nuggets last week.

While Anthony's future with the Nuggets remains uncertain, Denver has won four in a row and begins a favorable set of back-to-back road games. Denver will next travel to face Western Conference-worst Sacramento on Thursday.

Anthony is averaging 24.4 points in 26 career games against the Clippers. He was 14 of 20 from the floor and finished with 30 points in Denver's 111-104 win over Los Angeles on Nov. 5.

The Nuggets may have Al Harrington back after missing four games with a dislocated right thumb. He would provide frontcourt depth needed to defend Blake Griffin, who has averaged 21.5 points and 11.0 rebounds versus the Nuggets during his rookie season.

Griffin has recorded 21 straight double-doubles. He scored 19 of his 31 points in the first half of a 107-98 loss to Atlanta on Sunday and also had 15 rebounds, but the Clippers blew a 16-point lead to lose their second straight.

After scoring 38 second-half points in a 103-95 loss to Utah on Wednesday, Los Angeles was outscored 65-45 after the break by the Hawks.

"We just have to do a better job of finishing out games," said Griffin, who is averaging 28.3 points and 13.3 rebounds over the last four games. "Our offense got a little stagnant and they hit some shots."

Eric Gordon, who came in averaging 25.6 points in his previous five games, was held to 10 against the Hawks. After spending the final 8:27 of the first quarter on the bench with two fouls, he scored six points in the second half, but made only one of his nine field-goal attempts.

The last four meetings between the Nuggets and Clippers have been in Denver. Los Angeles won the last game at Staples Center, 106-99 on Nov. 20, 2009 - its only victory in the last 12 matchups.

Gordon scores 28, Clippers beat Nuggets 106-93

LOS ANGELES (AP) With DeAndre Jordan patrolling the paint and Eric Gordon hitting 3-pointers, there was little the Denver Nuggets could do to fend off the Los Angeles Clippers.

Jordan's block party and the Clippers' smothering defense led to a 106-93 victory Wednesday night that snapped Denver's four-game winning streak.

Jordan finished with 14 points, tied a career high with 20 rebounds and had six blocks to help the Clippers halt a four-game skid against the Nuggets.

"I'm the anchor so everything that comes in there, if somebody gets beat, I have to be in there to block it, contest it or alter the shot," Jordan said.

Many of his blocks led to crowd-pleasing dunks on the other end.

"That's what we need from him," said Gordon, who scored 28 points, including four 3-pointers. "When he gets that many rebounds and blocked shots, he just helps us overall.

"We get on the break and it's hard to stop us. We're a transition type of team so if we have a good tempo, everything will go our way."

Blake Griffin had 22 points and 18 rebounds to tie a franchise record with his 22nd consecutive double-double. Los Angeles outrebounded the Nuggets 57-43 and committed only 12 turnovers.

"We did a good job of second-chance points and points in the paint," Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said. "I thought we were tighter defensively, we were able to prevent them from getting second-chance points and we were able to convert on the offensive end."

Carmelo Anthony had 31 points and Chauncey Billups added 25 for the Nuggets, who took their only lead early in the first quarter.

Before the game, Nuggets coach George Karl noted how his team had a favorable schedule in January with winnable games on the road. But not much went right for Denver, which shot 37.5 percent.

"We weren't good at either end of the court," Karl said. "Most nights this year we've had something going and tonight our defense wasn't good enough and our offense wasn't good enough."

Billups made five of seven 3-pointers, including three in the second half to keep the Nuggets within striking distance.

After his 3 trimmed the Clippers' lead to 89-83 with 7:02 remaining, Los Angeles responded with consecutive 3-pointers from Gordon and Baron Davis to stay comfortably ahead.

"They were awesome tonight - not just Blake, everybody," Billups said. "They all played good."

In the previous meeting, the Nuggets shot an NBA season-high 59 free throws to beat the Clippers 109-104 on Dec. 3. This time, Denver made 25 of 31 free throws while the Clippers converted 18 of 27.

The Nuggets welcomed the return of forward Al Harrington, who missed the last four games with a dislocated right thumb. It marked the first time all season Denver had its entire roster healthy, but the team took another blow when backup point guard Ty Lawson sprained his left knee with 4:59 left in the second quarter and didn't return.

Lawson said it was a slight sprain and that he would try to play against Sacramento on Thursday night.

The Clippers led by as many as 15 in the first half.

The Nuggets trimmed the lead to 51-43 at the break after Billups scored six straight points, including a four-point play to end the half.

The Clippers snapped a 33-all tie in the second quarter with a 13-1 run capped by Jordan's two-handed, reverse alley-oop dunk in transition.

Griffin had his own highlight-reel play during that stretch, a thunderous, one-handed, alley-oop dunk off a feed from Davis that put Los Angeles ahead 40-34.

NOTES: Griffin will join Milwaukee point guard Brandon Jennings and big men JaVale McGee of Washington and Serge Ibaka of Oklahoma City in the Feb. 19 slam dunk contest at Staples Center during All-Star weekend, the NBA announced Wednesday. ... The Clippers had nine assists and shot 51.9 percent in the first quarter to take a 30-23 lead.

THE FACTS: All five starters scored in double figures and the Los Angeles Clippers played one of their best games of the season in a 106-93 victory Wednesday night against the Denver Nuggets at Staples Center.

QUOTABLE: "That was fun. Everybody contributed and we all came out and said that we won't have the same thing happen from the last two games. We just came out and executed."

THE STAT: Jordan had one of the best performances of his three-year career, scoring 14 points, matching his career high with 20 rebounds and blocking six shots. Jordan, a 44 percent free-throw shooter, even shot 4-for-6 from the line and threw down one of the best dunks of the NBA season, courtesy of an ally-oop pass from the dunk master himself, rookie Blake Griffin.

TURNING POINT: The Nuggets were trailing by four points with 8 ½ minutes remaining when Jordan tipped in a miss by Ike Diogu. Jordan then pulled down a one-handed rebound over Nene on the other end, leading to a 3-point basket by Eric Gordon. After a 3-pointer by Denver guard Chauncey Billups, Gordon and Baron Davis hit back-to-back 3s for a 12-point lead with 5:54 remaining and the Nuggets couldn't get back within single digits.

QUOTABLE II: "The six blocked shots gets us out in the open court and gets us easy baskets. Not only the blocks, he's also altering shots. That's a huge advantage for us."

HOT: Jordan has blocked 19 shots in the last three games. Before that stretch, he had 19 blocks in the previous 15.

NOT: Denver forward Kenyon Martin went scoreless for the second time since returning from offseason knee surgery Dec. 22. Al Harrington, in his first game back for the Nuggets since missing the previous four with a dislocated thumb, scored three points on 1-for-7 shooting. He hasn't scored in double digits since Dec.18 against Minnesota.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: Carmelo Anthony scored 31 points for Denver to better his season average of 24 points a game, but he needed 26 shots to get there. Gordon, who came in averaging 23.3 points, scored 28 on 9-for-20 shooting.

GOOD MOVE: Del Negro sat Davis the last 4 ½ minutes of the third quarter and the first five minutes of the fourth. The 31-year-old point guard came in fresh for the stretch run and quickly drilled the 3-pointer that gave Los Angeles a 12-point lead. Davis finished with 16 points on 7-for-13 shooting, the fourth game in the last five he has shot at least 50 percent from the floor.

BAD MOVE: Just when the Nuggets were back at full strength for the first time this season after the recent returns of Anthony (sister's death), Martin and Harrington, back-up point guard Ty Lawson left in the second quarter with a strained left knee and backup shooting guard J.R. Smith limped to the locker room with three minutes remaining.

ROOKIE WATCH: Griffin seldom gets outshined by his teammates this season, but while Jordan was wowing the crowd with his play, Griffin was putting up 22 points, 18 rebounds and seven assists. Griffin extended his double-double streak to 22 games, third-longest in the NBA since the 1991-92 season, and has at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in 11 straight games.

NOTABLE: Seven teams in the Western Conference have at least 20 victories this season and the Clippers have now defeated four of them; San Antonio, New Orleans, Oklahoma City and Denver. They also lost to the Lakers on a buzzer-beater.
