Coming off the largest comeback in franchise history, the Toronto Raptors are hoping better defensive pressure will help them avoid a similar deficit. A matchup with the low-scoring Charlotte Bobcats should alleviate that concern.

Toronto looks to win two straight on the road for the first time this season on Tuesday night when the host Bobcats try to rebound from an effort that sent owner Michael Jordan into a postgame tirade.

Down by 25 points in the third quarter and 16 entering the fourth, the Raptors (9-15) ended a four-game losing streak Saturday with a 120-116 road win over Detroit.

Toronto's largest comeback prior to that was a 104-89 victory at the Los Angeles Clippers on Nov. 13, 2009, when it overcame a 22-point deficit.

"I've never been in a game where we were shooting 60 percent and we were down 20 points," said coach Jay Triano, whose team trailed by 19 at halftime despite shooting 65 percent. "We knew we weren't having any problems scoring, but we had to take care of the ball and we had to box out. We did that a lot better in the second half."

While 14 first-half turnovers led to 29 of the Pistons' 72 points, Toronto's poor defense has been a lingering concern. The Raptors have given up an average of 118.4 points and allowed opponents to shoot 52.2 percent the last five games.

"We've just got to out there with the mindset to play defense," Jerryd Bayless, who scored a career high-tying 31 on Saturday, said following Monday's practice. "I know we know we can score, and defensively is where we're struggling."

Bayless will likely start a third straight game for point guard Jose Calderon, who is hoping to return from a left foot injury in time for the start of a four-game homestand Wednesday against Chicago.

While the Raptors look to shore up their defense, the Bobcats (8-15) are desperately trying to find ways to boost their sagging offense. Charlotte shot a season-worst 33.8 percent and committed 22 turnovers in Saturday's 93-62 home loss to Boston.

After watching his team lose for the seventh time in 10 games and score the second-fewest points in franchise history, Jordan addressed his listless club in the locker room instead of coach Larry Brown.

"With all due respect to Michael, it's not embarrassing to him. It's embarrassing to us and our families," Gerald Wallace said after missing 13 of 15 shots and scoring nine points.

Although Charlotte is struggling and ranked among the league's worst with 93.6 points per game, Triano knows Wallace and leading scorer Stephen Jackson will provide a test for youngsters DeMar DeRozan and Sonny Weems.

"Gerald gets to the free throw line, he runs the floor. Stephen's going to shoot 3s, he's going to play a mid-range game," Triano said. "They're kind of like who Sonny and DeMar can evolve to be as players."

Wallace scored 19 points with a season high-tying 14 rebounds, while Jackson scored 10 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter and had a steal with five seconds left that sealed a 101-96 victory in Toronto on Nov. 10.

DeRozan scored just four in the loss but Weems had 20 in the last game he's come off the bench.

Andrea Bargnani had 16 points and nine rebounds as the Raptors snapped a two-game slide in Charlotte with a 103-101 victory March 29.

Bobcats' bench leads 97-91 victory over Raptors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Before Michael Jordan would be inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in a halftime ceremony, the Charlotte Bobcats owner had a message for his struggling team.

"He said, 'You better not lose on my night,"' forward Gerald Wallace said. "But at the same time he gave that speech about us coming out and playing with more effort."

It wasn't pretty and far from perfect, but there was vast improvement from three days earlier and it ended with a much-needed victory.

Nazr Mohammed had 18 points and eight rebounds, Tyrus Thomas hit the go-ahead jumper with just over a minute left, and the Bobcats overcame Stephen Jackson's poor night to beat the Toronto Raptors 97-91 on Tuesday night.

"(Jordan) wants to see us on the floor for loose balls, doing the little things that we used to do," said Wallace, who added 16 points and had four of Charlotte's 13 blocks but also twisted his left ankle. "I think tonight was the starting point. We've got to build off that."

With Jackson held to seven points before fouling out, reserves played key roles as the Bobcats snapped a two-game skid. Thomas, in his return after missing two games with a sore calf, scored 14 points and his mid-range jumper with 1:20 left put Charlotte ahead to stay.

Little-used Matt Carroll, playing for Jackson, then hit a cutting Boris Diaw for a half-hook on Charlotte's next possession to make it 93-89.

The Raptors wilted from there, missing five of six shots and committing two turnovers in the final minute. It was Toronto's fifth loss in six games despite 17 points and nine assists from Jerryd Bayless.

"We can't turn the ball over," coach Jay Triano said. "We were going to the basket, which was good, but they blocked a lot of shots."

In their first game since rallying from 25 points down in Detroit for the largest comeback victory in franchise history, the Raptors squandered a 12-point, first-half lead as they played their third straight game without point guard Jose Calderon (sore left foot).

DeMar DeRozan added 14 points and Amir Johnson, Andrea Bargnani and Linas Kleiza each scored 12 for Toronto, which shot 40 percent and committed 19 turnovers.

"It's real frustrating," DeRozan said. "Teams these days are too good, and when you turn over the ball, it's a good chance they will go down and make something happen."

Three nights after taking over the postgame address from coach Larry Brown following a 31-point loss to Boston, Jordan was in usual courtside seat. At halftime, the Wilmington native was inducted into the state's hall of fame. The ceremony included his college coach, Dean Smith, coming on the floor with him.

The small crowd loudly cheered the pair - after booing the home team during Toronto's 20-2 run in the first quarter when the Raptors had easy paths to the lane and numerous second-chance points.

Some of the old problems popped up, too. Referee Ed Malloy hit Jackson with a second-quarter technical foul after his third foul. It was Jackson's seventh technical of the season and his first since he sent a letter to fans apologizing for behavior that got him suspended for a game two weeks ago.

"It's funny, it's a joke," Jackson said when asked about his frustration over being in foul trouble. "All I can do is laugh at it and let it go."

Jackson, held to 3 of 8 shooting in 25 minutes, fouled out with 4:35 left after picking up two in 13 seconds. Carroll replaced him and his jumper put Charlotte ahead 87-83 with 3:34 to go.

Mohammed was the most effective scorer, hitting 8 of 11 shots. But Brown said Jordan has discussed taking him out of the starting lineup to give the second unit an offensive boost.

Wallace, who played 45 minutes, had ice on his left ankle after the game. Brown said he kept him in the game because he was told he'd get stiff if he came out. Wallace's status for Wednesday's game in Memphis is uncertain as the Bobcats try to make their owner happy.

"That was kind of neat seeing Michael honored and all those people there," Brown said. "That was a pretty impressive group. But we needed a win."

Notes: DeRozan had the play of the night, a leaping, one-handed tomahawk dunk over Thomas in the third quarter. ... Triano hadn't received a report on how Calderon's individual workout went before the game. But when asked if he'd play Wednesday against Chicago, Triano replied, "probably not." ... G Gerald Henderson didn't score in three minutes after Brown said Jordan and GM Rod Higgins don't want to send him to Maine of the development league as he works his way back from a knee injury.

THE FACTS: Nazr Mohammed led all scorers with 18 points and added a team-best eight rebounds as the Charlotte Bobcats downed the Toronto Raptors 97-91 Tuesday night at Time Warner Cable Arena. Jerryd Bayless scored 17 points and dished nine assists for the Raptors in the loss.

QUOTABLE: "This was more of a pride and confidence win. We needed this. Toronto was a team we felt we should beat. We knew we needed to beat them and after what we showed against Boston this was something our fans needed to see."

THE STAT: 52 percent. Charlotte was 39-for-75 from the floor and are now 4-1 this season when shooting better than 50 percent. It was the Bobcats' post players which led the way as the trio of Mohammed, Kwame Brown and Tyrus Thomas combined to connect on 19 of their 31 field-goal attempts. The Bobcats dominated the paint with 58 of their points coming down low.

TURNING POINT: Stephen Jackson fouling out. The Bobcats' leading scorer picked up two fouls in the span of six seconds late in the fourth quarter which resulted in his disqualification. Thomas scored on the next Charlotte possession to break an 83-83 tie and then Jackson's replacement, Matt Carroll, connected on a 20-foot jumper to push the lead to 87-83.

QUOTABLE II: "My job is to stay ready. I don't know when I'm going to get in the game, but when I do I want to bring us a lot of energy and make an impact. We needed a lift when I got in there and luckily it happened."

HOT: Mohammed. The Bobcats center scored 18 points on 8-for-11 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. Mohammed had led the team in scoring in each of the last two games and has scored in double figures in the last three outings. He is averaging 15.0 points and 5.3 rebounds in that span.

NOT: Wallace at the charity stripe. The Bobcats All-Star forward is getting to the free throw line of late, but is having a hard time once there. Wallace has connected on just 23 of 44 over the last six games (52.3 percent). Over his career he has connected on more than 71percent of his free throw attempts.

FANTASY SPOTLIGHT: Wallace again had a strong showing in most fantasy categories. The Charlotte forward posted a stat line of 16 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and four blocked shots. However, the Bobcats have concerns about his status for the game Wednesday night in Memphis after he hurt his left ankle in the first quarter after being fouled by Toronto's Linas Kleiza.

INSIDE THE ARENA: Bobcats majority owner Michael Jordan was inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame at halftime. In attendance to support Jordan were fellow Hall of Fame members Dean Smith, former coach at the University of North Carolina, David Thompson, former basketball player at NC State, ACC Commissioner John Swofford and Ned Jarrett, 2011 inductee of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Also in attendance was Fantasia Barrino, winner of Season 3 of American Idol.

ROOKIE WATCH: Ed Davis of Toronto was the lone rookie to see action Tuesday night. The Raptors forward posted six points, six rebounds, one assist and one block in 25 minutes.

NOTABLE: Charlotte is 4-1 when shooting 50 percent or better from the floor. ... This is the sixth game this season in which the Bobcats have recorded double figures in blocks. ... Raptors forward Amir Johnson scored in double figures for the 12th time this season. It was his fourth time with double-digit rebounds and fourth double-double of the season. ... Bayless' nine assists were a career high.
