With their last opponent missing the NBA's reigning scoring champion, the Boston Celtics admitted they weren't completely focused from the outset of a surprising loss.

They might have a similarly difficult time taking the Toronto Raptors seriously.

The Celtics' eight-game winning streak over the Raptors is currently their longest against any opponent, but they may not have Rajon Rondo on Sunday afternoon at Air Canada Centre against a Toronto team undergoing an in-season makeover.

Boston (9-3) seemed to be in excellent shape to pick up a fourth straight win Friday night, when Oklahoma City came to TD Garden without both NBA scoring leader Kevin Durant and fellow starter Jeff Green.

Two days after a 29-point win over a Washington team missing No. 1 pick John Wall, the Celtics seemed stagnant from the opening tip. The Thunder's Russell Westbrook had 31 points, outplaying Rondo in an 89-84 win that snapped Boston's 5-0 start at home.

"We didn't start the game with the right mindset," said Celtics forward Paul Pierce, who had 14 points and four turnovers. "We knew what they were going through. We kind of eased into the game."

To make matters worse, Rondo left in the fourth quarter with a strained left hamstring, while Kevin Garnett took an elbow to the head that sidelined him for most of the opening period.

Garnett seemed fine, but Rondo is considered a game-time decision Sunday.

His absence would give Toronto (4-9) a better shot to extend its first winning streak of the season. The Raptors have won two straight - matching their victory total through their first 11 games - thanks to big fourth quarters.

On Wednesday, Sonny Weems had seven of his 25 points in the final 12 minutes, when Toronto outscored Philadelphia by 10 en route to a 94-86 victory. Two nights later, Linas Kleiza scored seven of his 17 in the fourth as the Raptors broke open a one-point game after three to win 106-96.

"We have got to stay positive and start winning and keep fighting," Kleiza said after coming off the bench for a third straight game since Weems replaced him. "There is a lot of basketball left."

Andrea Bargnani has averaged 28.0 points in the past two games, but Kleiza and the Toronto reserves have made a difference. The Raptors have had a 45-point edge in bench points in the two wins, outscoring Houston 46-11.

Toronto's rotation is about to get a shakeup, however. The Raptors agreed Saturday to trade starting point guard Jarrett Jack and backups Marcus Banks and David Andersen to New Orleans for former All-Star Peja Stojakovic and Jerryd Bayless.

Stojakovic, earning $14.25 million this season in the final year of his contract, had fallen out of the Hornets' rotation. Bayless averaged 4.5 points and shot just 34.7 percent while backing up Chris Paul.

Jose Calderon, who was splitting time with Jack, is expected to move into the starting lineup. Stojakovic, whose expiring deal may be deemed more valuable than his on-court contributions, may get little time with Weems and Kleiza playing well.

It's unclear if either Stojakovic or Bayless will be in uniform Sunday.

The Raptors could certainly use some sort of spark against Boston considering they've lost eight straight meetings.

Rondo averaged 21.5 points, 10.0 assists and 7.5 rebounds in the Celtics' two wins in Toronto last season. Bargnani, meanwhile, has been held to 13.3 points per game and 33.8 percent shooting during the Raptors' six-game home skid in the series.

Johnson lifts Raptors over Celtics, 102-101

TORONTO(AP) The Boston Celtics are playing tough defense, as usual. Just not for the entire game, and it's costing them.

Amir Johnson made two free throws with 2.7 seconds left, Andrea Bargnani scored 29 points and the Toronto Raptors snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Celtics with a 102-101 victory Sunday.

Paul Pierce's shot bounced off the rim as the buzzer sounded, giving Toronto its first victory against Boston since a 114-112 road win on Jan. 23, 2008.

Boston, which lost 89-84 at home to Oklahoma City on Friday, suffered consecutive defeats for the first time this season.

"We can't just show up. We've got to play some D," a frustrated Kevin Garnett said. "These teams we're playing against are very high-caliber offense teams. We know what they are. On paper they might not be whatever but as far as talent, this league has a lot of talent and you've got to respect that."

Johnson had 17 points and 11 rebounds, Sonny Weems scored 16, Leandro Barbosa had 12 and Jose Calderon 11 for the Raptors, who have won a season-high three straight. Reggie Evans finished with 16 rebounds and a season-high nine points.

Toronto made 30 of 39 free-throw attempts.

Nate Robinson led Boston with a season-high 22 points, Pierce and Ray Allen each had 19 and Garnett and Glenn Davis both scored 12.

Pierce said Boston lacked the proper focus in the losses against the Thunder and Raptors.

"I know we're a better team than those two teams, I know we are," he said. "It's just mentally coming out and having the right mindset. I don't think we have the right mindset coming into these games against opponents that we're supposed to beat."

Toronto had won just one of its previous 12 against Boston, including six straight losses at home, but turned this one around with a 38-point second quarter, the biggest output by a Celtics opponent in any quarter this season.

"We may be the worst second quarter team in all of basketball," Pierce said. "We come out, get these leads and then we give them right away in the second quarter. We've got to do a better job and be more consistent throughout the game, quarter by quarter."

The Raptors led 82-75 to begin the fourth and extended their lead to 93-81 on a 3-pointer by Barbosa with just over 9 minutes left.

Toronto went cold after that, missing its next 10 field goal attempts and allowing Boston to storm into the lead with a 17-1 run over the next 5 1/2 minutes. Allen tied it at 94 with a 3-pointer from the wing with 3:39 remaining, then made another 3 from almost the same spot on Boston's next possession.

Johnson ended Toronto's slump by making a hook shot with 2:46 to play, cutting it to 98-96. After Pierce made one of two from the line and Barbosa hit a jumper, Weems had a chance to put the Raptors ahead, but airballed his 3-point shot with 42 seconds left and Toronto trailing by one.

Evans fouled Davis on a drive to the basket with 21 seconds to go and the Celtics' big man made both, putting Boston up 101-98.

After Weems made a driving layup, Allen lost the ball at midcourt and Toronto recovered.

"I thought Ray got fouled," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "It's clear. But listen, you know they're going to swipe and you know they're going to after the ball and you've got to protect the ball."

Pierce was whistled for a foul on Johnson, who made both to give the Raptors a 102-101 lead. Rivers didn't like that call either, but refused to criticize the officials when asked whether he thought it should have been a shooting foul.

"You answer that," Rivers said. "I need my money, I have four kids. I'll let you answer that. I didn't see anything."

After a timeout, Allen inbounded to Pierce, who drove past DeMar DeRozan on the left wing but couldn't get his jump shot to fall.

"I thought I got a great look there for the last shot but it shouldn't even have come down to it," Pierce said.

Boston's Rajon Rondo, who left Friday's game with a strained left hamstring, was held out of the lineup. His replacement was Robinson, who made an immediate impact by scoring 16 points in the first quarter, including three 3-pointers, as the Celtics built a 31-23 lead.

Bargnani responded with 15 points in the second and Johnson added seven as the Raptors attacked the basket and got to the line. Toronto made 12 of 16 from the free throw line and carried a 61-58 lead into the break.

Boston's Shaquille O'Neal fouled out with 7:32 remaining. He had eight points and five rebounds in 20 minutes.

NOTES: Barbosa returned to the lineup after missing six games with a strained left shoulder. ... Jerryd Bayless and Peja Stojakovic, acquired by Toronto in Saturday's five-player deal with New Orleans, are expected to debut in Wednesday's home game against Philadelphia. ... The Raptors will assign forward Ed Davis to Erie of the D-League on Monday. Toronto's first-round draft pick last June, Davis has not played this season after injuring his right knee shortly before training camp.

THE FACTS: In a Sunday afternoon showdown, the Toronto Raptors outlasted the Rajon Rondo-less Boston Celtics to pull out the 102-101 victory in front of their home crowd. The Raptors were led by 29 points from Andrea Bargnani and 17 points and 11 rebounds from Amir Johnson.

QUOTABLE: "My swag was up definitely at the end...my confidence level -aka swag- was up." - Amir Johnson on how he was feeling when he had to step up the line with 2.7 seconds remaining, trailing by one.

THE STAT: After scoring 23 points in the first quarter and trailing by eight after the opening 12 minutes of action, the Raptors exploded for 38 second-quarter points to take a 61-58 point lead into the locker room at the break. The 38-point quarter was the highest-scoring quarter allowed by the Celtics this season.

TURNING POINT: Holding the Raptors scoreless from the floor for over six minutes, the Celtics reeled off a 17-1 run in the fourth to lead by three with 2:29 remaining. Rather than looking for the three to tie the game, Toronto scored quickly on a layup from Sonny Weems and then a Leandro Barbosa steal ended up with Johnson at the free-throw line. With 2.7 seconds remaining, Johnson calmly drained both shots to put the Raptors up one and Paul Pierce was not able to score at the buzzer.

QUOTABLE II: "You answer that. I need my money, I have four kids, alright? I'll let you answer that. I didn't see anything." - Doc Rivers jokingly responds when asked whether he thought the final foul on Amir Johnson should have been a shooting foul.

HOT: Amir Johnson had a season-high 16 points to go with 11 rebounds in 24 minutes of action for the Raptors. He was 9-for-9 from the line, setting career-highs in free throws made. None were bigger than the two free throws he hit with 2.7 seconds remaining to put the Raptors up by one and give them the win.

NOT: Shaquille O'Neal went just 2-for-8 from the floor for his eight points, fouling out in 19 minutes of action.

NOTABLE: The victory ends the Raptors eight-game losing streak against the Celtics. Reggie Evans and Jose Calderon both picked up technical fouls for arguing non-calls in the game. Raptors rookie Ed Davis could be sent to the Erie Bayhawks as early as tomorrow. Prior to the game, Doc Rivers deemed it "highly doubtful" that Rondo will play tomorrow against the Hawks.
