LOS ANGELES (NBA.com exclusive) -- There was nothing left to settle Wednesday night except some hometown bragging rights.
That carries a lot of weight in a city the size of Los Angeles.
The Clippers can at least take that prize into the offseason after pulling away in the second half behind the first career triple-double by point guard Steve Blake and defeating the defending champion Lakers 107-91 at Staples Center.
The win completed a season sweep for the Clippers as the home team against the Lakers. They also won 102-91 back on Jan. 6, when the playoffs were still a possibility.
"I thought it was a great way to end the season," said Clippers coach Kim Hughes. "The bench came in and helped us out tremendously...Tonight, we were a well-balanced team all the way around."
The Lakers had long ago clinched the No. 1 seed for the Western Conference playoffs and were playing without All-Star Kobe Bryant, who decided to give his right index finger extra time to heal. He had been playing with an avulsion fracture in the finger since December, but had not missed any games as a result of the injury until Tuesday against Sacramento.
The Lakers (57-25) were also playing without backup guard Jordan Farmar, who strained his hamstring the night before against the Kings, and also lost another reserve guard when Sasha Vujacic suffered a severe left ankle sprain late in the first half. X-rays were negative and he will have an MRI on Thursday.
"We are definitely going to miss Sasha," said Lakers forward Ron Artest. "He was really starting to play well and I can't wait to get him back."
On the positive side, center Andrew Bynum had his first on-court workout Wednesday morning since straining his Achilles tendon March 19. He's expected to take part in full-contact drills later this week, and is hoping to be available when the Lakers open the playoffs Sunday against the Oklahoma City Thunder at Staples Center.
The Clippers, meanwhile, realized their postseason fate back in February, when they threw in the towel during a stretch of 15 losses in 19 games and traded leading rebounder Marcus Camby to the Portland Trail Blazers.
Blake, in his seventh season in the NBA, came over in the deal for Camby and has recently shown his value to the Clippers, but never as much as Wednesday.
Starting in place of Baron Davis, who missed his second straight game with a sprained right wrist, Blake finished with a season-high 23 points, matched his career-high with 10 rebounds and dished out 10 assists.
"Sometimes, you're in the right place at the right time," he said. "I got a few rebounds early, so I thought I better start running around and get as many as I could get."
Chris Kaman limped through the final quarter of the season, but still completed his inaugural All-Star season with 22 points and seven rebounds. Travis Outlaw, who also came over in the trade for Camby, had 14 points and a season-high 10 rebounds.
DeAndre Jordan (12 points), Craig Smith (12), Rasual Butler (10) and Steve Novak (10) also scored in double figures.
The Clippers (29-53) were also without starting guard Eric Gordon (viral infection) and power forward Drew Gooden (sore right knee).
"We did a good job against them," Kaman said. "Obviously, they didn't have Kobe, but we didn't have Baron, Drew and Eric. It was a fair match-up and we did a good job."
The Clippers held a 52-49 lead at the half behind double-digit scoring from Jordan, Kaman and Blake, then stretched it to 13 at the end of three quarters. They increased their lead to as much as 21 in the fourth quarter.
The Lakers head into the postseason after playing their poorest basketball of the season over the last 21 games, compiling a record of 11-10 during that stretch. They finished with 10 less regular-season wins than a year ago, when they won the NBA title, and an identical record as two years ago.
"We will be prepared," said Lamar Odom, who scored a team-high 21 points for the Lakers. "We have a great coaching staff and great players. This is just one game for us."
