Thunder-Raptors Preview

With a chance to clinch their first winning season in five years, the Oklahoma City Thunder fell apart in the middle portion of their last game.

The Thunder look for a better overall effort Friday in Toronto, where the Raptors are trying to win two straight for the first time in nearly a month.

A 19-point, second-quarter lead over Charlotte on Wednesday put Oklahoma City (41-25) in good position for its sixth straight victory and the franchise's first winning season since 2004-05. The Thunder, though, were outscored 41-16 during a stretch bridging halftime and fell 100-92 to open a three-game trip.

"We weren't able to finish out the game," point guard Russell Westbrook told the Thunder's official Web site after recording his third straight double-double with 15 points and 10 assists. "It's very disappointing, but that is part of the game and we have to move on to the next game."

Despite scoring 26 points with 10 rebounds Wednesday, Kevin Durant will look to bounce back against Toronto after missing 17 of 26 shots, including all seven of his 3-point attempts versus the Bobcats.

"His shot was short most of the night,'' Thunder coach Scott Brooks said of Durant, who is second in the NBA with 29.7 points per game. "He's a worker. He's going to come back. Very rarely is he going to have a 9-for-26 shooting game."

In a 119-99 home win over the Raptors on Feb. 28, Durant made 9 of 18 shots and scored 29 points as the Thunder franchise posted its most lopsided victory in this series since the Seattle SuperSonics' 94-74 win Feb. 12, 2004.

Percentage points ahead of Phoenix for fifth in the Western Conference, Durant and the Thunder look for another strong offensive night against Toronto (33-33), which is allowing an Eastern Conference-worst 105.9 points per game.

The Raptors, who lead Chicago by 3 1/2 games for the eighth and final playoff spot in the East, snapped a five-game slide Wednesday with a 106-105 home victory over Atlanta.

"I don't care who it was against right now - we wanted and needed a win," said Raptors coach Jay Triano, whose team had dropped nine of 10.

Chris Bosh missed 13 of his first 18 shots, but the five-time All-Star capped off Toronto's fourth-quarter rally with a game-winning 16-foot jumper with 2.1 seconds left.

"I shot it with confidence, and there wasn't a doubt in my mind that it (was) going in,'' said Bosh, who earlier became the first player in Raptors history to score 10,000 points. "I'm just glad it gave us the go-ahead to win the game.''

Having Bosh in the lineup for Friday's matchup with the Thunder could help Toronto win consecutive games for the first time since Feb. 19-20. Bosh, one of three players in the NBA averaging at least 20.0 points and 10.0 rebounds, missed the Feb. 28 loss in Oklahoma City with a sprained left ankle.

Bosh had 21 points and 13 boards in Oklahoma City's first visit to Toronto - a 112-96 Raptors win last March 27. Toronto has won three straight at Air Canada Centre against the Thunder franchise, which will try to record 20 victories on the road for the first time in five seasons.

Durant gets plenty of help as Thunder throttle Raps

TORONTO (NBA.com exclusive) -- The game may have lasted for 48 minutes, but it was over well before halftime.

While Oklahoma City Thunder coach Scott Brooks had hoped his team would focus on stopping Toronto defensively rather than trying to match them offensively, he didn't have to worry as his team picked apart the Toronto Raptors in a 115-89 thrashing Friday night in Toronto.

"That was our best game of the year," Brooks said. "Start to finish we really did a good job moving the ball, sharing the ball and defensively it was about as good as we can play."

Tying their season-high for points in a first quarter (39) and breaking their season-highs for points in a half (71) and offensive rebounds in a game (20), the Thunder got the rare "easy" NBA road victory.

With the way the home crowd was booing Toronto it probably felt more like a home game to the Thunder.

"There is really no nice way to put it," Chris Bosh said. "They came out and they did what they do and we didn't respond." We didn't impose our will and we didn't resist them at all...There was no resistance, we didn't crash the boards, we didn't take the ball to the basket, we didn't get to the free throw line and we fouled them every time down the court. When you do those things you are probably going to get beat by a lot of points like we did."

While the Raptors devoted a chunk of time in this week's practice sessions to rebounding, their woes on the glass were highlighted against Oklahoma City as the youthful, energetic Thunder outran, outhustled and outplayed a Toronto squad that is fighting to make the playoffs.

"We played really hard defensively," Nick Collison said. We shared the ball on offense, it was a good win.We're having fun playing. We're looking forward to each night getting on the floor. It's kind of become how we play each night of the season."

The Thunder were having fun after the first 12 minutes, already leading 39-25 after using a 17-4 run to close the quarter. By halftime, Oklahoma led by 27 and the Thunder had as many offensive rebounds as the Raptors did defensive. The advantage was 32 entering the fourth and Thabo Sefolosha was the only starter for either team to log minutes.

"When they threw the ball up in the first half there were 15 defensive rebounds that we got and 15 offensive rebounds that the got," Jay Triano said. "Any time you play a team where they throw it up and half the time that they miss they get t back, you are going to be in a bit of a hole."

Despite the final quarter being garbage time, the Thunder never let up for a second, pressuring on defense and hustling until the final buzzer sounded, their 42nd victory safely tucked away.

"Not letting up," Durant said of the mindset of the team even after the game had been blown open. "Not getting satisfied. I think we did a good job of coming in and fighting for the whole 48 minutes. I was excited and happy to see that guys came in off the bench and everybody gave us energy."

Durant was fantastic, scoring 31 points on 16 attempts, tying a Raptors franchise record for free throws attempted and made in a half with 15 makes on 15 attempts. He had plenty of help from his teammates in the victory and was more than happy to watch from the bench for the fourth. Jeff Green scored 25 points Kyle Weaver had 12 points and Russell Westbrook had his 21st double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 assists.

Chris Bosh did not play in the fourth, but led the team with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Andrea Bargnani had 15 points and Marco Belinelli scored 12, almost all coming after the game had been decided.

After a lopsided victory like this one, one coach wanted his team to use this performance as a model for how to play every game, while the other wanted to wipe it from memory.

"We have to forget that and move on," Jay Triano said.

Forgetting it is one thing, hopefully the Raptors learn from it as well. Looking up at a jammed Eastern Conference playoff race, Toronto doesn't have time --or games?to waste.
