Although Kobe Bryant is among the best clutch players in the NBA, the superstar has been unable to carry the Los Angeles Lakers to victories recently.

Bryant and the Lakers look to avoid their first four-game losing streak in three seasons when they face the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night.

Bryant is among the league leaders with 27.7 points per game and averaged 33.3 in the last three contests, but was unable to prevent a loss in any of them. Los Angeles (48-18) has dropped three in a row for the first time since Jan. 23-27, 2008.

Playing despite a stomach illness, Bryant scored 34 on Sunday, but missed a 20-footer as time expired and Los Angeles fell 96-94 to Orlando to finish 0-3 on an eastern road swing.

"I didn't release it the way I really wanted to so I tried to compensate for it because I felt the ball slipping," Bryant told the Lakers' official Web site. "That is my shot. You give that to me 10 times and I make it nine times."

Los Angeles has not lost four in a row since April 8-13, 2007.

"I'm worried about what we can do to win ball games, I'm not worried about streaks,'' said forward Pau Gasol, who averaged 12.5 points in his previous four games before scoring 20 on Sunday.

The Lakers have dropped three straight for the first time since Gasol arrived in a trade Feb. 1, 2008.

Los Angeles was on the verge of winning its fifth in a row over Toronto on Jan. 24, but Bryant missed a shot as time expired in a 106-105 defeat. Bryant finished with 27 points, a career-high 16 rebounds and nine assists, but Raptors forward Hedo Turkoglu came through by drawing a foul on Gasol and hitting two free throws with 1.2 seconds left.

Turkoglu missed a 114-101 loss to Philadelphia on Sunday with a sore ankle and is questionable for Tuesday, when the Raptors try to sweep the Lakers for the first time.

Toronto (32-29), though, has lost seven straight road games in the series, and the Lakers are a conference-best 29-5 at home.

The Raptors open a four-game western swing with All-Star forward Chris Bosh in the lineup, but his return Sunday after missing seven games due to a sprained ankle and stomach virus was not enough for Toronto to avoid a fifth loss in six games.

"They were more focused than we were,'' Bosh said after scoring 12 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.

With a one-game lead over Miami for sixth place in the Eastern Conference, the slumping Raptors need to re-focus if they are going to reach the postseason for the first time since 2007-08.

"There's not that much margin for error right now,'' forward Antoine Wright said. "You lose a game like this, you can go from fifth (seed) to seventh or even eighth. You don't want to be fighting to get back in the hunt. We've got to figure some things out."

The Raptors haven't been able to figure out Bryant in Los Angeles. He averaged 43.4 points in the last five meetings at Staples Center, scoring a career-high 81 on Jan. 22, 2006.

The Lakers are looking to reach 30 home wins for the third straight season.

Kobe nails another game-winning shot as Lakers ice Raptors

LOS ANGELES (NBA.com exclusive) -- Kobe Bryant did it again.

All tied up and with 9.5 seconds remaining, Bryant pulled through in vintage Bryant fashion.

With both Antoine Wright and Hedo Turkoglu lunging at him, Bryant sank a 17-foot fallaway jumper from the right baseline to the bail the Lakers out 109-107 Tuesday at Staples Center.

"In Orlando, the same shot, I just missed it," said Bryant, who finished with a game-high 32 points, none more important than his final basket which gave him his sixth last-second, game-winning shot this season. "But it's my job to kind of bail us out when things go south."

Wright did have a last second shot, but his halfcourt heave came up short.

Once again, Bryant carried his team.

In the final seven minutes, he scored 14 of the Lakers' 20 points, which was indicative of how the Lakers (47-18) have struggled of late.

The defending champions came in on a three-game losing streak and narrowly dropped a fourth, something that hasn't happened in Los Angeles in three seasons. To struggle against the Raptors (32-30), who have now lost five of their last six, opened up the Lakers' eyes on their problems.

"There's a period of a time when it looked like we would play it right in the first quarter," Lakers coach Phil Jackson said. "But we came out and spoiled it in the second quarter. I talked about it pregame and it's happened to us lately."

"There are so many things [going wrong]. We have five guys with hand injuries. That alone you can start talking about that kind of stuff. We have rhythm problems. We have guys holding the ball too long. We have passing that's not accurate."

As for what positives the team could take from this win, Bryant answered: "None."

"Throw this in the garbage...our defense in Orlando was much better, this thing tonight was garbage."

The Lakers needed every bit of help, including a courtside spectator who poked the ball free from Jose Calderon as he tried to save the ball in the final two minutes.

Four Lakers finished in double figures including Andrew Bynum with 22, Pau Gasol (17) and Lamar Odom (10).

Lost in the Bryant's last-second heroics was the play of the Raptors, who held the lead for most of the second half. It wasn't until the final minutes that Toronto played from behind.

Down 107-104 with 17.6 seconds to go, the Raptors got a huge 3-pointer from an unlikely source. Chris Bosh, who came in 6-for-16 from deep this season, sank an uncontested 3-pointer from the right wing to tie the game with 9.5 seconds left.

Then came Bryant's game-winning bucket, which the Raptors avoided in their Jan. 24 meeting when Bryant's 37-footer rattle in and out.

"You know, we dodged one in Toronto, when he had a shot at the buzzer and tonight, we ran two guys at him and he still makes it," Raptors coach Jay Triano said. "Our guys were a little out of position because he pushes off to get it and he's going to do it if he has one, two or three guys."

Added Raptors' DeMar DeRozan on Bryant's shot: "That's just him. That's what he does regularly. It's tough, but at the same time, we're not going to be the last team he does it against and sure not the first."

In his second game back after missing seven contests with an ankle sprain and flu-like symptoms, Bosh had a team-high 22 points and Andrea Bargnani added 21 points. Jarrett Jack also chipped in with 18.

Turkoglu, who missed a game with a left ankle sprain, struggled in his return with six points on 2-for-7 shooting in 29 minutes. He also had four turnovers, one of which was a costly one to Derek Fisher in the final minute with his team down 104-102.

It was a parade to the charity stripe with both teams combining to shoot 74 free throws. The Lakers were 36-for-44 from the line, season highs in makes and attempts.

Los Angeles played little defense early. Toronto made 14-for-21 shots in the second period to outscore the Lakers 34-21. The Raptors built their eight-point halftime lead, 58-50, thanks to a 14-5 run in the final three minutes of the second quarter.

The Lakers, who split the season series with the Raptors 1-1, head back on the road for a three-game road trip, which begins Friday at Phoenix then Golden State Monday followed by Sacramento Tuesday.

Things need to change and Bryant weighed in on his solution.

"I think what we have to do is focus on execution," Bryant said. "A lot of times you get so wrapped up in the length of the season and wanting to win a championship again, you overlook the small things and that's when the malaise sets in...that takes a toll on you."
