The Oklahoma City Thunder weren't happy with their lackluster defense in their meeting with the Sacramento Kings less than a week ago.

They'll close the season series between the two, however, coming off one of their better efforts.

The Thunder visit the Kings on Sunday, looking for their third win in four games between the two this season.

Oklahoma City (37-24) is among the NBA's top 10 in scoring defense, holding opponents to 96.4 points per game, but it had two subpar performances in a win over Sacramento and a loss to Denver this week. The Thunder held on for a 113-107 win Tuesday despite allowing the Kings to shoot 53.9 percent, then they struggled in a 119-90 loss at Denver on Wednesday, allowing the Nuggets to shoot 50.6 percent.

Oklahoma City bounced back with a 104-87 win against the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday, holding the Clippers to 37.2 percent shooting. It was the 17th time this season the Thunder have held an opponent to fewer than 90 points, but the first time they've done it since a 99-86 win over Dallas on Feb. 16.

Sacramento has reached 100 points twice against Oklahoma City this season, but it still has lost two of three.

"Our defense got us this far," said Thunder rookie James Harden, who scored 17 points off the bench Friday. "Tonight we wanted to come out with the energy and intensity and just stay focused on the defensive end."

Kevin Durant led the Thunder with 32 points after being held to 19 in the loss to Denver. He went 10 of 22 from the field Friday, recording his 35th game of 30 or more points, tying the franchise record set by Spencer Haywood during the 1972-73 season. The Thunder are 24-11 when Durant reaches 30 points.

Oklahoma City is 3 1/2 games behind first-place Denver in the Northwest Division as it heads into the finale of a three-game road trip.

"We work hard and continue to get better," Durant said. "It feels good to be in that position, but we've got to continue to move forward."

Durant is averaging 34.9 points in his last five games against Sacramento. The Thunder lost their most recent trip to Arco Arena, 101-98, despite 37 points from Durant.

The Kings (21-41) have won their last two home games, but they lost 108-100 at Dallas on Friday after failing to protect a 10-point first-half lead. They pulled within 102-100 with 1:36 remaining, but Tyreke Evans turned the ball over with a chance to tie the game.

Evans finished with 20 points and Carl Landry had a team-high 21 with eight rebounds, but Sacramento couldn't overcome its 17 turnovers.

"Out of 48 minutes, we had probably 43 or 44 that were good enough to win," coach Paul Westphal said. "The biggest difference was that we turned it over 17 times (leading to 24 points for Dallas)."

Landry, who has averaged 17.4 points since the Kings acquired him from Houston on Feb. 18, has delivered consecutive 20-point performances. He scored 17 against the Thunder earlier this week after scoring 21 in each of his two previous games against them this season.

Westbrook shakes off stitches to lead Thunder past Kings

SACRAMENTO (NBA.com exclusive) -- Russell Westbrook's vision wasn't perfect but it was good enough to lead the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder to a 108-102 victory in Sacramento on Sunday night.

Westbrook received six stitches after being inadvertently poked in the eye by the Kings' Carl Landry with about 10 minutes left in the third quarter.

The second-year guard, who had just six points to that point on 3-of-8 shooting, was in the locker room for most of the rest of the quarter (adding one bucket in the final minute).

Westbrook then erupted for 13 points in the final quarter, helping the Thunder (38-24) to their fifth win in six games.

"I'm good -- nothing big," said Westbrook about his right eye. "I was able to see normally, but maybe not too good on the right side."

Westbrook, who finished with 21 points, eight rebounds and four assists in 32 minutes, is excited about how the Thunder have been playing.

"We are in a good spot -- getting better throughout the course of the season and hopefully we'll continue to get better," he said.

Thunder coach Scott Brooks didn't expect Westbrook to be in the locker room for nearly the whole third quarter.

"I knew he would come back...I was actually surprised that he was gone for so long," Brooks said. "He showed toughness and our team showed toughness."

The first half was back-and-forth and the Thunder took a 57-52 lead in the break.

A powerful dunk by Kevin Durant put Oklahoma City up 78-67 with 3:40 left in the third quarter.

The Kings then closed the quarter on a 12-3 run and trailed just 81-79 after three quarters. Kings rookie star Tyreke Evans drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer as the fans at Arco Arena celebrated throughout the quarter break.

Despite the momentum from Evans' shot, the Thunder kept the lead for the entire fourth quarter. Nick Collison sealed the victory with a slam, making the score 108-102 with 25 seconds left in the contest.

The Kings contained Durant in the fourth quarter, holding him to just two points. But they gave up 25 to him in the game's first 36 minutes, as Durant finished with 27 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

The Kings were dominated on the glass, getting out-rebounded 45-33 and the Thunder are now 12-1 when they have a rebounding advantage of 10 or more.

"There are no excuses," Landry said. "I am not making any excuses. We have got to go and get the ball. I gave up a couple of rebounds tonight as well as a couple of my teammates. We have got to do a better job of rebounding the ball. It is that simple."

Kings coach Paul Westphal was also frustrated with Sacramento's inability to rebound.

"We just couldn't keep them off the glass," Westphal said. "They beat us on the boards and it just negates so many of the good things that we did. ...(The Thunder) is where we want to be and we want to get there sooner rather than later. As long as we keep striving to improve, I think we have a really good nucleus and we'll keep bouncing back."

Evans (24 points, seven assists) and Landry (20 points, eight rebounds, two steals) led the Kings, who fell to 21-42 on the season.

Jason Thompson, who had been out with a back injury since Feb. 23, returned for the Kings and collected 11 points and eight rebounds in 30 minutes of action off the bench.

"It's nice to have Jason back," Westphal said. "He brings a lot of energy and got some rebounds for us. He's certainly an integral part of what's going on for us."

Francisco Garcia (14 points) and Beno Udrih (10 points) also scored in double figures for the Kings. It was a season high for Garcia, who has played in just 10 games this season because of a wrist injury.

"Francisco is really showing how important he can be for our team," Westphal said. "He's an extra ball handler, he stretches the floor with three-point shooting and he's a clutch shooter. Defensively he can guard three positions in a pretty credible manner so it was really nice to have his contributions out there."

The game was very chippy, with the Thunder being whistled for three technical fouls and the Kings getting called for one.

"We know those guys over there. They are young and we are young and it was all competitive," said Durant, who was called for a technical foul in the second quarter for what he said was talking. "Part of growing up is learning to control our emotions. ...Whenever you make a good play of course you are going to talk about it."

Landry said, "There was a lot of trash talking going on, but it is just part of the game. Wherever you go, whether it's the Y or the playground it's just a part of basketball. I think the referees didn't want it to get out of hand and that is why they made some of the calls, but it is just part of the game."

The teams are done with each other this season as the Thunder took the season series 3-1.

Brooks was an assistant coach for the Kings for the 2005-06 season.

"Their organization is very prideful," said Brooks about the Kings. "They have a good group of guys to support and watch grow and they play hard."
