LOS ANGELES (NBA.com exclusive) -- Nothing like a date with the Los Angeles Clippers to bring back a team's swagger.
Two days after suffering their worst loss of the season, the Oklahoma City Thunder returned to their winning ways Friday night with a 104-87 victory against the Clippers at Staples Center.
Kevin Durant scored 32 points for the Thunder, the 35th time this season he has reached the 30-point plateau. He leads the league in that category and tied Spencer Haywood's 37-year-old franchise record for the most 30-point games in a season.
More importantly, the Thunder are 24-11 when Durant hits that mark.
As usual, Durant deflected the attention to his teammates.
"We did a great job of locking in and getting focused," Durant said. "It was an overall effort from everyone and we really helped each other out."
The Thunder (37-24) were embarrassed in a 29-point loss at Denver on Wednesday night, a game in which they shot a season-low 32.5 percent from the field and trailed by as many as 41 points. Prior to that setback, the Thunder had won 12 of 14 games. They were 9-2 in February, the franchise's best winning percentage in any full month of play since 1997.
Considering the Nuggets are the opponent Oklahoma City would face if the season ended this weekend, it was a reality check that hit them like a cold bucket of water. The Thunder bounced back the best way they know how, playing solid defense.
"We wanted to come out with energy and intensity and just stay focused on the defensive end," said Oklahoma City rookie forward James Harden. "We bounce back ... and just come out to compete."
The Clippers, to their credit, made the Thunder sweat it out for 30 minutes before raising the white flag. They fell behind by 12 in the first quarter, cut the deficit to seven at the half and pulled as close as four points with four minutes remaining in the third before the Thunder switched gears.
"The Thunder got after it," said Clippers forward Craig Smith.
"They got to loose balls, they forced some turnovers, which translated into transition baskets."
The game was reminiscent of the Clippers' second-half collapse against Phoenix on Wednesday night, when they led by one point at the half, only to lose 127-101.
"We gave up too many transition points and did not get back on defense," said Clippers guard Rasual Butler. "There are nights when we commit too many turnovers."
Russell Westbrook also filled up the box score for the Thunder, totaling 15 points, nine assists and seven steals. The only black mark came with his seven turnovers. Harden gave OKC a big lift off the bench, scoring 17. Jeff Green contributed 14 and Nenad Krstic had 13 and 11 rebounds.
"We have been doing a great job refocusing our energy on defense," said Thunder coach Scott Brooks. "That's when we make every game a competitive team."
Smith, who missed the previous two games with a sore left biceps tendon, scored 19 off the bench for the Clippers (25-37), outplaying most of the starters. Chris Kaman had 19 and 15 rebounds, but scored just four in the second half. Butler scored 17, but he was the only other Clipper in double figures.
Eric Gordon was limited to seven points, 10 below his average, and Baron Davis scored six, nearly 10 below his average. Combined, the starting backcourt for Los Angeles was 5-for-22 from the field, a big reason why the Clippers shot 37.2 percent.
"They had some good looks, but just couldn't knock them down," said Clippers coach Kim Hughes said. "It's going to be tough for us to win a game shooting below 38 percent from the floor."
Hughes also announced after the game that Gordon was suffering from a sore leg. The Clippers play at Utah on Saturday night.
"He couldn't make shots and he had trouble defending," Hughes said.
"I don't know what his status will be for tomorrow's game. I'm sure he'll be examined by the doctor's tonight."
