The Miami Heat's starters were able to relax and enjoy the end to their longest losing streak of the season with a blowout victory.

If recent history is an indication, they will have needed that rest in their attempt to snap a season-high four-game skid away from home.

In the opener of a five-game trip, the Heat will try to end that losing streak Wednesday night with their first road victory over the Atlanta Hawks in nearly three years.

Miami (25-27) ended a five-game slide by blowing out visiting Houston 99-66 on Tuesday night. The Heat put away the game early by making 13 of 15 shots over a 9 1/2-minute span in the first half en route to a season-high, 25-point halftime lead.

"Instead of feeling sorry for ourselves, we came in with the right mindset to work and try to get better," coach Erik Spoelstra said.

They held on to that cushion, which allowed Wade and two other Miami starters to sit out the final period. Michael Beasley left with 8:09 remaining and Jermaine O'Neal took a seat less than three minutes later.

"The first team came out and established the game early," said Wade, who had a team-best 17 points. "The second team came in and pushed the game away. If we can continue to get that energy nightly from our bench, we'll be able to win most of our games."

The Heat, though, haven't won back-to-back games since Jan. 22-23, and heading to Philips Arena doesn't seem like a promising way to accomplish that feat.

The Hawks (33-17) are 21-5 at home and have won five straight there. Miami, meanwhile, has dropped five in a row in Atlanta since its last win March 21, 2007.

The Heat have also lost seven of 10 overall meetings since the start of the 2007-08 season, including a 105-90 road defeat Nov. 18. Joe Johnson scored 30 points to lead the Hawks and has averaged 25.4 points in his last five home meetings with Miami. Wade, fifth in the league this season with a 26.7-point average, was limited to 15 on 6-of-18 shooting.

The Heat's star guard, though, scored a team-best 28 points in a 92-75 home win over Atlanta on Jan. 4, and Michael Beasley added 22, giving him 22.3 points per game in his last four matchups with the Hawks.

Atlanta was held to a season low for points in its worst shooting performance (35.2 percent). The Hawks had just two players in double figures, led by reserve Jamal Crawford's 23 points.

Crawford had a team-best 28 in Tuesday night's 108-94 win in Memphis and was one of six players in double figures in Atlanta's third straight victory.

"It wasn't just me," Crawford said. "It was all my teammates finding me and coaching running some great plays. I had the easy part, just knocking the shots down."

The veteran guard has averaged a team-leading 22.3 points during the win streak, and Johnson's 23.0 points per game have paced Atlanta in its five straight home victories. The game against the Heat is Atlanta's lone home game until Feb. 24.

The Heat haven't lost five straight on the road since dropping their final nine games there in 2007-08.

Miami bench keys Heat road win in Atlanta

ATLANTA (NBA.com exclusive) -- Dwyane Wade said he saw Daequan Cook coming. The Atlanta Hawks certainly didn't.

Cook, who came into the game shooting 29.3 percent, scored 17 points, including eight straight as part of a 10-0 run midway through the fourth quarter that broke open a 71-71 tie and allowed the Miami Heat to run off with a deceptively decisive 94-76 victory over the Atlanta Hawks Wednesday night at Philips Arena.

"Daequan started the other day in practice," said Wade, who chipped in with 18 points and 11 assists. "Tonight, with Mike Bibby guarding him, who's kind of a helper, a roamer, he's a quick shooter. So we got him the ball at the right time, he was able to get into his rhythm and really became big for us."

"It was like a domino effect," said forward Udonis Haslem, who added 14 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds. "Everybody starts making shots."

The Hawks, playing without their offensive sparkplug, Jamal Crawford, who was scratched just prior to tip-off with a left shoulder injury, had no remedy for the falling dominoes.

"Cook got it going," said Josh Smith, who led Atlanta with 18 points. "Whenever you have a player like that, when he gets it going, it's kind of hard to put out the fire."

Perhaps most frustrating for the Hawks and invigorating for the Heat was that Wade was on the bench for the run.

"I would love to see that the second half of the season," said Wade. "That's going to determine how successful we're going to be, if our second unit continues to play with the confidence they have the last two games."

Miami won for the second time in 48 hours after dropping a season-high five in a row. It also came in Philips Arena, where the Hawks were 21-5 coming in and where the Heat had dropped five straight games.

"I think winning in this building was key for us," said Wade. "We played good team basketball, so going into the break with a win will give us confidence going forward."

"I wrote one thing down on my clipboard after the third quarter ? breakthrough," said Heat coach Eric Spoelstra. "We continue to find a way to grind and keep ourselves in it. It's about doing whatever needs to be done to help us be successful."

Spoelstra's message struck a chord in Cook, who shot 7-for-12 and bagged 3-of-5 from three-point range.

"I felt like my old self, back into my rhythm," he said. "The most important thing was my teammates had the confidence in me to let me take those shots."

The contributions of Miami's second unit, Cook, Haslem, and Dorell Wright (10 points on 4-for-5 shooting) was the difference as the Heat bench outscored Atlanta's 45-8.

It also showed the importance of Crawford.

"You're talking about 17, 18 points that's missing in action," said Hawks coach Mike Woodson. "But that's no excuse. We still have enough players to try to overcome that. We just didn't get it done tonight."

Not even Crawford could have stopped Miami center Jermaine O'Neal, who put together a monster game, 19 points on 9-for-13 shooting, and 10 rebounds.

"Jermaine was the key for us on both ends of the floor," said Spoelstra. "Offensively he really helped us control the tempo. We know how they are in this building. They can turn a close game into a 20-point game with five minutes. Jermaine was big in protecting the rim and being big rebounding."

Hawks center Al Horford, who had 11 points and 10 rebounds, took the loss and especially O'Neal's performance personally.

"I probably should have done a better job of trying to step up and do more things," he said. "When guys go down guys have to step up."

Josh Smith led the Hawks with 18, but Atlanta was held to 37.5 shooting and only 21.1 from three. Joe Johnson scored 16, but had 10 of them in the first quarter and went through an 0-for-9 drought in the middle two frames.

It was the same kind of defense Miami played against Houston the previous night, when they held the Rockets to 66 points. The Heat are now 12-0 when holding opponents under 40 percent shooting.

"The guys did a very good job on defending the basketball and multiple schemes," said Spoelstra. "We just got back to the purity of playing basketball."

They purely dominated the second and fourth quarters, holding the Hawks to 15 and 12 points in those frames, and winning the second game of a back-to-back for only the third time in 11 and only the second time in nine tries on the road (they had lost eight straight).

The Hawks took a 27-20 lead out of the first quarter, but unlike in the recent history of the series, the team that led after the first 12 minutes did not run off and hide.

Miami wouldn't allow that to happen, as for the second straight night, they clamped down in the second quarter. They opened on an 11-0 run to take the lead and held Atlanta without a basket for the first 4:25.

It was during that stretch that the Hawks showed just how much they missed Crawford, making only four of 15 shots and appearing sluggish and stagnant on offense.

The half ended with Miami up 43-42 following a wild final two minutes in which there were four lead changes and a pair of technical fouls ? one on Miami's Michael Beasley, the other on Woodson.

Leading at halftime is money for Miami, which raised its record to 11-1 on the road when leading at halftime.

Both teams will now get to reflect as they head into the All-Star Break.

The Hawks, who saw their three-game winning streak snapped, will start the second half two games behind Orlando in the Southeast Division and in third place in the East by half a game over Boston in the tightly packed Eastern Conference.

"We have to get refocused and come ready to play next week," said Horford.

The last two days will allow the Heat to keep their tenuous one-game lead over Milwaukee in the race for the eighth spot and allows them to do so with a confidence that might not have been there only a few days earlier.

"[Tonight] was a very, very big win," said Haslem. "It doesn't change the fact that we lost five in a row prior to these wins but we can go into the break with a little bit of weight off our shoulders, get some rest and come back in with some confidence."

Notes: Hawks forward Zaza Pachulia sat out his second straight game with a hip injury...The Hawks go into the break with 33 wins, tied for the second-best total at the break in franchise history (the record is 34, set in 1993-94...Miami is now 16-0 when holding teams under 90 points.
