Raptors-Bucks Preview

While the Toronto Raptors have managed to string together some victories, the Milwaukee Bucks are having a hard time winning just one game.

The surging Raptors look to extend their season-high winning streak to four games while trying to send the Bucks to a fifth consecutive loss Wednesday night at the Bradley Center.

Chris Bosh had 21 points with 16 rebounds and Jarrett Jack added 17 points and eight assists in Toronto's 94-88 home win over Minnesota on Wednesday. The Raptors (10-13) have won three in a row - including two on the road - following a season-high five-game losing streak.

One of league's worst defensive teams allowing 108.3 points per contest, Toronto put forth another solid defensive effort after winning 110-78 at Chicago on Saturday.

"We're starting to dial in a little bit,'' coach Jay Triano said of Toronto's defense. "We've changed a few things and it seems to be working right now.''

That helped them overcome a season-low 32.1-percent shooting performance that included a 2-for-21 effort from 3-point range against the Timberwolves.

"A win is a win to me,'' said Bosh, who's averaging 25.7 points and 14.7 rebounds in his last three games. "I've never been picky in that category. As long as you find a way, that's what it's about.''

The Raptors' improvement on the defensive end could pose a challenge for Milwaukee (9-11), which is averaging 95.2 points while losing eight of its last nine contests.

The Bucks, who fell 98-89 at Boston on Tuesday, will try to avoid its longest losing streak of the season when they face the Raptors for the first time in 2009-10.

While Bosh is averaging 25.2 points and 10.5 boards in his last six games against Milwaukee, Toronto might need another big night from Jack.

The fifth-year guard could make his second straight start if Jose Calderon is to miss his second consecutive contest with a sore hip. Jack is averaging 8.7 points this season, but 14.3 and 7.3 assists in his last three games against Milwaukee.

Andrew Bogut had 25 points and 14 rebounds, Ersan Ilyasova scored 19 and rookie Brandon Jennings added 17 Tuesday for the Bucks, who were held below 90 points for the second straight game.

"We still have a lot of work to do," Bogut told the Bucks' official Web site. "We need to get back on track and start winning games."

Bogut broke out after being held to 23 points and 20 rebounds combined in his previous three games. The 7-footer is averaging a modest 11.9 points and 8.5 rebounds in 12 games against Toronto.

Jennings, meanwhile, has seen his production dip. He's averaging 16.0 points on 32.5-percent shooting in his last nine games after scoring 25.3 per game while shooting 47.9 percent through his first 11 contests.

Milwaukee could be without star guard Michael Redd for a seventh straight game due to a sore left knee. He's played three of the team's last 15 contests. Guard Luke Ridnour could also be out after suffering an arm injury against the Celtics.

These teams split their four meetings last season with each winning at home and on the road.

Ukic burns his former team as Bucks take down Raptors

MILWAUKEE (NBA.com exclusive) -- Scott Skiles does not run his rotations off of sentiment, so the Milwaukee Bucks coach had other reasons when he sent Roko Ukic in for some early minutes against the Toronto Raptors.

"I haven't really been satisfied with some of our off-the-bench energy," Skiles said minutes after Ukic contributed a season-best 17 points in a season-high 25 minutes to help Milwaukee to a badly needed 117-95 victory over the Raptors at the Bradley Center Wednesday night.

Toronto traded Ukic and Carlos Delfino to the Bucks back in August for Amir Johnson and Sonny Weems. For at least a night, the Bucks appeared to get the better of the deal, as Delfino chipped in 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists. He also had a high-flying block of rookie DeMar DeRozan in the third quarter that electrified the crowd of 12,637.

Ukic's spark off the bench was pivotal in helping the Bucks end a four-game losing streak and improve to 10-11. Milwaukee had lost eight of its previous nine games after an 8-3 start.

"I probably should have been giving him some more looks before this, but he certainly has earned some more looks now," Skiles said. "He was good with the ball, made shots and he's got a burst of quickness that you can tell when he's out there."

Ukic scored 11 of his points in the fourth quarter. His 3-pointer and another 3-pointer from Luke Ridnour effectively put the game away, pushing an 89-78 edge to 95-78. Toronto would not get within single digits the rest of the way.

Ukic was a second-round pick of the Raptors in 2005 but chose to remain in his native Croatia, where he started playing professionally at the age of 16.

He finally signed with the Raptors in 2008 and played one year there before being shipped to Milwaukee on Aug. 17.

Ukic, 25, admitted there's always a little extra motivation going against a former team. But having played just 66 minutes in 11 of Milwaukee's first 20 games, he wasn't focused on his opponent so much as his opportunity.

"It's always a little more motivation when you're playing against past teams, but I don't think that was the case today for me because I really haven't played so much this year," he said. "I just wanted to deliver. Any game that I played I just wanted to play well. If you don't play much you know you don't have many chances, so once you get it you try to take advantage of it."

Ukic's minutes came at the expense of struggling Charlie Bell, who'd started 15 of Milwaukee's first 20 games but was shooting just 38.7% and averaging 7.9 points. Bell did not get into the game.

Another player who provided bench energy was quite a surprise. Ridnour suffered a partial dislocation of his left elbow Tuesday night when Boston's Kevin Garnett fell on his arm as Ridnour was stretching the arm out for a loose ball while flat on the floor. Ridnour tested the arm before the game and played with a brace, knocking down 15 points in 14 minutes, 37 seconds.

"You've got to admire him," Skiles said. "His left arm is very, very sore. There are an awful lot of guys in the NBA who would be out and would not have played in tonight's game. And not only did he play, he played very well."

Ridnour hit 6 of 9 shots, including his only 3-pointer.

"I felt pretty strong with it," Ridnour said. "(The only problem was) maybe just getting used to playing with the brace on it. Since it's my left arm I can go left with it and it's not a big deal.

"When you have that feeling of it popping in and out it's not a good feeling. I had a lot of people praying for me and I thank God for healing me. It's only been a day and it feels better. I know if he (Garnett) would have rolled just a little bit more it would have broke."

Rookie Brandon Jennings led Milwaukee with 22 points on 8-for-14 shooting. Jennings scored all the Bucks' points in an 11-2 run that gave Milwaukee a 29-22 lead after one. Neither team had led by more than two before that point, and Milwaukee led by at least five the rest of the night.

Jennings survived a scare in the closing seconds of the third quarter when he landed awkwardly on a drive and hyperextended his left knee. He was treated on the bench and was able to return in the fourth quarter.

Chris Bosh had a game-high 26 to lead Toronto, which played without starters Jose Calderon (hip) and Andrea Bargnani (ankle). The Raptors (10-14) had a three-game winning streak snapped.

"Other guys got a chance to step up today and I don't think anybody really did," Raptors coach Jay Triano said.
