The Denver Nuggets have dominated Miami since they picked Carmelo Anthony and the Heat selected Dwyane Wade in the 2003 draft. In the first meeting between the teams this season, though, it was Miami that came out on top.

Denver looks to remain undefeated at home against the Heat since that draft and avenge last month's loss when the clubs play Thursday night.

The Nuggets took Anthony third overall in 2003 while Miami used the fifth pick on Wade. Since that draft, Denver is 10-3 against the Heat - 6-0 at home.

Miami, however, won 96-88 on Nov. 6 to end an eight-game skid in the series despite Anthony outscoring Wade 30-22. It was Denver's first loss after a 5-0 start.

Wade led the NBA in scoring in 2008-09 and Anthony has jumped out to top the league this season, averaging 30.7 points for the first-place Nuggets (13-5).

He scored 25 on Tuesday as Denver beat Golden State 135-107 to bounce back from a stunning six-point loss to Minnesota on Sunday that snapped its 17-game win streak at the Pepsi Center.

Seven Nuggets scored in double figures Tuesday as Denver posted its highest-scoring game of the season. Unlike in Sunday's loss in which the Nuggets blew a 17-point lead, they were able to build on a 69-55 advantage at the half, taking a 23-point advantage into the fourth quarter.

"That's what's great about the NBA," said point guard Chauncey Billups, who scored 22. "The next night, the same thing can happen and you can show that you learn from your mistakes. We came out up 14 at the start of the third and we said, 'Let's try to put them away this time, not just talk about it. Let's do it,' and I was proud of us for that."

Anthony has scored at least 20 in every game, the only NBA player to do so this season.

Wade helped the Heat (10-7) get back on track Tuesday in the opener of a four-game road trip. Following back-to-back home losses, Miami beat Portland 107-100 as Wade had 22 points and a season-high 12 assists.

Michael Beasley benefited most from Wade's passing, finishing with a season-high 27 points and eight rebounds.

"We knew they were going to take the ball out of Wade's hands. He had to trust his teammates, and that's what he did," coach Erik Spoelstra said.

The Heat play the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday and Sacramento on Sunday before heading back to Miami.

"This was a great way to start our trip," Wade said. "It was a very good team effort against a very, very good team."

Anthony has appeared in 12 of the 13 matchups with the Heat since the 2003 draft, averaging 26.5 points. Wade has also played 12 times over that span and has scored 27.8 per game.

Denver has won 12 of the last 15 overall meetings against Miami, taking seven in a row at home. The Nuggets haven't been swept in a season series by the Heat since 2001-02.

Nuggets maintain lengthy dominance over Wade, Heat

DENVER (NBA.com exclusive) -- Few teams are happy to hop on a plane to face the defending world champions. The Heat might be one of them.

For all of their successful seasons, the Heat have not been able to figure out the Denver Nuggets. Whether they play in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains or near the Atlantic Ocean, the Nuggets own Miami.

They proved it again Thursday night on national TV. The Nuggets used a 13-0 run in the second quarter to pull away from Miami, and they cruised to a 114-96 win.

"The bottom just fell out," Heat coach Eric Spoelstra said. "We couldn't put together any kind of stops and offensively we weren't executing with any kind of pace, energy or passion. We're better than this. We've shown that."

Not Thursday. The Heat, coming off an impressive win in Portland on Tuesday night, looked a step slow against Denver. They shot just 33.3 percent in the first quarter and were a horrid 3-for-8 from the foul line.

"We just missed shots, missed free throws. The missed free throws were deflating," Spoelstra said. "If we could have converted half of the ones we missed we would have had a first quarter lead. We missed some chippies at the rim, layups, short jump shots that were open. That's going to happen. You've just got to have enough resolve to dig it out on the other end and weather the storm."

They didn't. With Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups on the bench in the second quarter the Nuggets took control of the game. Nene scored seven of his 15 points in a 3:11 stretch when Denver turned a 29-28 lead into a 42-28 advantage.

The lead reached to 20 before the end of the half and as much as 29 in the fourth quarter.

The only excitement after halftime were the four technicals handed out in the final 1:09 of the third quarter. Kenyon Martin picked up two of them, earning him an early shower.

"Other guys get warnings," he said. "I don't get warnings."

Martin's absence didn't matter, and the end result wasn't shocking. The Nuggets have owned Miami since Dwyane Wade and Anthony came into the league in 2003, and the Heat star knows it.

"They're better than us in this building," said Wade, who had a game-high 25 points. "They're better than us a majority of the time we've been here. I think they're 11-3 versus us."

Wade knows his history. The teams split four games from 2003-05, but after that Denver dominated. The Nuggets won six straight until the Heat finally got them in Miami last month, but they quickly returned the favor.

"I think we showed a lot of professional pride and understanding that we didn't play well down in Miami and we wanted to return the misery they gave us when we were there," Denver coach George Karl said.

Anthony also wanted to keep the edge on Wade, his friend and USA Basketball teammate.

"I try to make it like that," said Anthony, who led Denver with 22 points.

Wade didn't try to beat the Nuggets on his own. When Denver sent multiple guys at him he passed to open teammates, but they weren't able to knock down shots. Miami shot just 42.7 percent.

"I want us to capitalize on it. I feel it's disrespectful to my teammates when they send two or three guys," Wade said. "I want us to capitalize. When we don't capitalize that's when it gets frustrating to me because I'm a willing passer, I want other guys to succeed, I want to make the game easy. We've got to capitalize more often."

The Heat haven't been capitalizing on much lately. After starting the season 7-2, Miami has gone 3-6 and fallen near .500.

"Better competition," Wade said, citing the reason for the slide. "We played our first couple of games at home, we did what we were supposed to do. But now the competition's picked up. We're a team that's in the middle of the pack and that's how we're playing."

At least they have Denver off the schedule, but their reward is a date with the Lakers on Friday night.
