An injury caused Vince Carter to miss the Orlando Magic's first trip this season to face his former team, the Toronto Raptors.

After leading his new club to a key Eastern Conference victory, Carter will try to help the Magic follow with a fifth straight win Sunday in Toronto, where he played his first six-plus seasons in the NBA.

Carter scored 10 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter, including the tiebreaking shot with 2:33 left, in Friday night's 83-78 victory at Boston, a rematch of last postseason's conference semifinals.

"I'm just glad I was able to deliver," he said. "This type of basketball game, you don't want to let down. This is what it's all about. This is the bar. It's great to see we were able to buckle down and persevere."

Rashard Lewis had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Magic (10-3), who trail Atlanta in the Southeast Division.

"This is a big game for us, a confidence booster," Lewis said. "We rode Vince a lot tonight."

Carter established himself as a star in Toronto before being traded to New Jersey in December 2004. The Magic acquired the Daytona Beach, Fla., native in a five-player deal from the Nets in June.

Carter got off to a slow start in Orlando as a sprained left ankle caused him to miss four of the team's first seven games, including a 125-116 win at the Air Canada Centre on Nov. 1.

Since returning to the starting lineup Nov. 11, he has averaged 20.4 points, including a season-high 29 in his first start back from injury.

Carter has scored at least 20 points in five of his last six matchups against the Raptors but also was a career-worst 0-for-13 in a 101-79 loss for New Jersey on Dec. 12, 2008. He's averaged 26.7 points on 50.7 percent shooting in his last three games in Toronto.

He'll face a Raptors team that's among the worst defenses in the league, allowing 108.2 points per game this season and 100 in a season-high four straight.

Toronto (6-7) snapped a three-game slide Friday night by shooting 57.7 percent in a 120-113 win over Miami to open a three-game homestand.

Toronto scored 69 points in the first half for a 20-point lead at the break, but that advantage was cut to one late in the fourth quarter before the Raptors went on a 13-2 run.

"We held our ground,'' said Chris Bosh, who had his eighth straight double-double. "They cut it very close, but we kept fighting. We kept scratching, and we got the stops when it counted.''

Bosh is averaging a career-best 27.0 points and 12.2 rebounds and had a team-leading 35 points and 16 boards in the loss to Orlando earlier this month.

He has five straight double-doubles against the Magic since the start of last season and has averaged 30.2 points on 53.4 percent shooting in the last 10 matchups.

Orlando' star center, Dwight Howard, has been equally stellar in last four matchups versus the Raptors, averaging 30.5 points while shooting 59.7 percent.

The Magic hold a 5-3 edge in the series since the start of the 2007-08 season and are seeking their third straight win in Toronto.

Carter grabs win with Magic in old stomping grounds

TORONTO (NBA.com exclusive) -- In the end, it wasn't the boos, but the shoes.

In a 104-96 victory against the Toronto Raptors, Vince Carter scored 24 points for the Magic in front of a crowd that showered Carter with boos each time he touched the ball early in the game, growing louder with each possession. The only way to silence them was to score, so he continued shooting.

Starting 2-for-11 from the floor, Carter entered the locker room at halftime and changed up his shoes.

"The first half was a rough one," Carter said. "I was just trying to be aggressive, trying to get into the paint, just make plays. Make the referees decide what is what. I think I was a little overly aggressive, playing a little too fast. I was trying to get there but not really playing under control. The second half when I changed my shoes, it was OK."

Yes, his shoes.

"A little too blue." He continued. "My shoes were all blue, I changed them back to the black ones, the old faithful that I wore in Boston."

While the Raptors led by 11 early, the Magic battled back and held a one-point halftime lead. In the third, the teams traded baskets, Carter finding his shooting touch, scoring 12 points in the quarter, including a fadeaway jumper with 1.9 seconds left to tie the game at 76 going into the fourth.

With Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis and Carter on the bench to start the final quarter, the Magic showed their depth. Already without Jameer Nelson, the Orlando bench came up huge as they found their range from deep with J.J. Redick and Jason Williams knocking down three-pointers in a 14-4 run that put the Magic ahead by 10.

Redick finished with 19 points on 6-for-10 shooting, including 4-for-7 from beyond the arc. In two games against the Raptors this season, Redick --who has season averages of 9.5 points and 2.3 assists per game-- is averaging 23 points and five assists.

"The rims have been good to me," he said simply, before elaborating on the push that the bench lineup made in the fourth with their starters resting.

"I think that our bench is deep. We missed Vince and Rashard for several games early in the year. We've played with that lineup before and we've been successful."

By the time Howard and Carter returned to the game, despite the efforts of Amir Johnson (14 points, eight rebounds) and Jarrett Jack (eight points, seven rebounds, 11 assists), momentum had swung in Orlando's favor. Andrea Bargnani (11 points, nine rebounds) fouled out of the game with four minutes to play and the Magic dug in defensively and were able to claim their fifth straight victory.

The game was a rough one for Chris Bosh, who scored 22 points but grabbed just five rebounds, while Howard finished with 17 points and 12 boards, five of them coming on the offensive glass as the Magic swiped 14 offensive rebounds and had 16 second chance points.

"The last time we played them, we gave him free rein to the rim," Howard said of Bosh. "He got a lot of easy rebounds. Tonight, we kept a body on him, forced him to stay out of the lane and not be able to get those easy rebounds."

While Orlando head coach Stan Van Gundy picked up a technical foul in the first quarter, he was pleased with the effort his team gave when it mattered and had high praise for their play on the defensive end.

"We come in today and this team is averaging 107 [points] a game and [we] give them 28 in the first quarter and still end up holding them below 100. That to me is what I like," said Van Gundy. "I see us fighting harder and making a better effort defensively."

Redick appreciated the intense reaction the Toronto crowd had towards Carter.

"I think it's great. It's awesome that Toronto cares. I'd rather have passionate fans any day. He [Vince] tried to dunk three times in the first two minutes of the game, so I'm pretty sure he recognized that and wanted to play aggressive."

While he was happy with his decision to change shoes, Carter was also happy to be back in Toronto.

"I enjoy playing in that atmosphere and I enjoy coming back here and playing, just being a part of this." Carter said. "This is where it all started."
